If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her.The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.

However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.” Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, “I do not want to marry her,” his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, “This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother’s family line.”10 That man’s line shall be known in Israel as The Family of the Unsandaled. [Deuteronomy 25:5-10, New International Version]

there is something to be said about foot wear in that region. remember the guy who pelted George Bush with his shoe. it was considered to be an insult to Bush.

I saw a utube where an Indian bride married the slippers of her to be husband when got sick at the marriage ceremony and had to be taken to the hospital.

Sir Gilibaka, i see you studying the bible again and picking out the important part

so steeped was the customs, that after 2 sons of Judah married Tamar, each dying while married to her, the third son refused to carry on the tradition. Fearing she was cursed and he too will die if married to her. Tamar was not too happy about 3rd husband to be decision. More perturbed she became when her father-in-law agreed with the decision of his 3rd son.

Just like a woman, she was going to get even. She knew Judah traveled at particular times. On route, he stopped a certain locale. She arrived before him, dressed like a prostitute. U can guess what took place.

After coitus, she returned to father-in-law's home and waited for her revenge. Poor Judah, din even know de woman was the wife of his deceased sons.

Anyway, she got impregnated. And after dat, story bruk out. Poor Judah din even realized Tamar took an object from him that would incriminate him of the act.

Frenno we need the verses from the old books, this NIV may have a twist to the real words in the verses.

Problem with the old books, no one can really understand them, can they? This is one reason there are so many interpretations, mankind puts its own spin on what it wants to believe. Hence, religious wars.

Brother Django, is Satan stopping you from Googling Leviticus 20:13 King James Version? In the spirit of Christian charity I will help you this time. Next time you will have to drop an offering in Brother Gilbakka's collection plate. I am presenting you a little extra, up to verse 16:

". 13If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. 14And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. 15And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. 16And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

You are speaking of the tradition of a Levirate marriage. It was necessary in an era when women were vulnerable withoug husbands and could not provide for their kids without a man.
