Problem with the old books, no one can really understand them, can they? This is one reason there are so many interpretations, mankind puts its own spin on what it wants to believe. Hence, religious wars.

Scientific phenomenons simply qualifies the statements made in the Bible. One has to read the Bible inorder to appreciate the revelations of the science.

You are speaking of the tradition of a Levirate marriage. It was necessary in an era when women were vulnerable withoug husbands and could not provide for their kids without a man.
