Bachna Ae Haseeno (English: Beware, ye beauties) a Bollywood film released on 15 August 2008. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone. The film was directed by Siddharth Anand whose previous films include Salaam Namaste (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007).
The film follows the journey of a young man named Raj Sharma (Ranbir Kapoor) who met three girls at different stages of his life from age 18 to 30: Mahi (Minissha Lamba) - a small-town girl from Punjab, Radhika (Bipasha Basu) - a model in Mumbai and Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) - a Non Resident Indian taxi driver and student in Australia. The film is about a journey of a man who goes from one love affair to another, only to run into true love.
In 1996, Raj runs into Mahi on the Eurorail, during a Europe trip. Mahi is a dreamy young girl who believes in romance, true love and is sure she will meet her "Raj" (the romantic character from the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, released in 1995) one day, who will sweep her off her feet. Mahi misses her train after getting off at a station in Switzerland during the trip. Raj, a passenger on the same train sees this and to woo her gets off the train. While Mahi is stranded without any money, Raj pretends he has missed the train too, consoles her and offers to help her reach the airport in time for her return flight. On the way, Mahi falls in love with Raj. They share a kiss after Raj reads to her a poem he has written about his feelings for her. Raj gets Mahi to the airport where she meets her family and friends again. Mahi tells her friends what happened between Raj and her. When she opens the piece of paper on which Raj had written the poem, she finds it blank. She goes in search of Raj and overhears him boasting to his friends about the "stuff" the pair got up to, and is shocked and heartbroken on hearing his lies. Raj notices her, realizes she overheard the conversation and leaves shamefacedly, leaving the crying and heartbroken Mahi behind.
It is 2002. Raj has moved to Mumbai and found a job with Microsoft as a game designer. He is also in a live-in relationship with Radhika, a wanna-be model. Here Raj narrates how he met Radhika who was his neighbor and to whom he was attracted. Raj gets an offer to move to Sydney for a Halo 3 game launch. He expects to be able to leave Radhika and move on to a new life, assuming that as Radhika is a modern girl living in with him, she would be able to handle a break-up. However, Radhika unexpectedly announces that she intends to sacrifice her career as a model to marry Raj and join him in Australia. After failing on several occasions to force her to break up, he gets on a flight to Sydney on the day he is to marry Radhika, who learns this while waiting for him at the registrar's office.
It's 2008. Raj now has a successful career in Sydney. One day he runs into Gayatri, who drives a taxi during the evenings and studies at a business school during the day. She also works part time in a super-market as a cashier. Raj befriends her and learns that, like him, she does not believe in the institution of marriage. However, he realizes that he is falling in love with her and finally proposes. Gayatri turns him down and walks away saying that she is happy with her life as it is. Rejection cuts him deep, and as he stands alone watching the love of his life walk away, he remembers the events of 1996 and 2002, the times that he broke hearts himself. He decides to return to India to apologize to both of them.
On his return, he first seeks out Mahi. Mahi is now married and has two sons. He runs into her husband Joginder (played by Kunal Kapoor) who expresses his anger at first as he had heard about Raj from Mahi's sister and how Mahi had fallen in love with Raj and had been hurt by Raj. He also tells Raj how Mahi is the perfect housewife and perfect mother of his perfect children. He also recalls the time 15 years ago when he had seen Mahi for the first time. While Mahi is a good wife, she seems scared of love or romance. Raj decides to intervene and apologizes to Mahi. He also makes her realize how much her husband loves her and that her husband is the real "Raj" she has been waiting for â the romantic, the one who loves her eternally. She forgives Raj and expresses her love for her husband.
Raj then searches for Radhika. When he locates her, he finds that she has changed her name to Shreya Rathod and has become a highly successful and rich supermodel. After much effort, he manages to meet her and offers his apologies. Shreya refuses to accept his apologies and tells him that if he really wants her forgiveness, he will have to work hard to earn it. To do this she offers him the job of a personal assistant. Once Raj starts his job, Shreya makes him work hard â making him do all sorts of tasks, from cleaning to serving at parties to holding tons of shopping bags. She tries to humiliate him on every possible occasion. But Raj remains firm on his resolve and continues to serve her without complaint. Finally she gives up and tells him how hurt she felt sitting alone outside the registrar's office. She refuses to accept his apologies and tells Raj to give up and return home.
But while he's waiting for his flight for Sydney, Shreya comes to the airport and meets him and tells him how she has realized that the root of her frustrations was all the bottled up hate against Raj. She thanks him and tells him that she forgives him. Raj is thrilled and returns to Australia.
On his return, Raj finds several letters from Gayatri. While he has been away, Gayatri has had second thoughts and has regretted having turned down Raj. The film ends with Raj seeking her out and reuniting with her.
