he is doing what he needs to in order to survive.

mind you.....once all of the others from his tribe are gone.....i won't be surprised is he is the very first to go from the old upolu tribe.

Amid dwindling viewership, "Survivor: South Pacific" had been a downright bore before Brandon's boneheaded move Wednesday night sent him to Redemption Island and saved this from being one of the worst seasons ever.

Still, there's only one thing that can truly save Season 23 (and it's not divine intervention).

Ozzy.

The Survivor veteran and Cook Islands runner-up finds himself on Redemption Island going into the season finale (which airs Sunday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on CBS, followed by a one-hour cast reunion).

To win, Ozzy must first defeat Brandon in the final duel. Then he’ll likely need to win the remaining two immunity challenges if he wants to outlast Coach, Sophie, Rick and Albert for the million dollars.

The thing is, he can do it.

In Fans vs. Favorites, Ozzy needed to be blindsided for the players to escape his prowess in the challenges. Redemption Island has been the perfect twist for a player of his physical caliber. He’s already won five straight duels and single handedly eliminated seven players from the game.

Then there’s the outside chance he may have a secret alliance with Coach. It’s hard to tell where this stands with their lack of interaction, but don’t forget during the Episode 12 reward on Redemption he promised Ozzy “as a Christian man” they would go to the final three together.

If he makes it to the jury vote, consider the verdict sealed. Five of his former tribe members sit on the jury. On top of that, all those who have come through Redemption Island have been greeted by what Sophie called “Ozzy’s pleasure dome.”

The only other player who can (should) win this season is Coach.

The game's other Survivor veteran took control of his tribe from day one. He organized the team’s 5+1 alliance and helped convince Cochran to turn on his tribe. He became the swing vote when the final five turned against each other. And he holds the hidden immunity idol, guaranteeing he’ll make it past another vote.

He never took command of the game in the way that Boston Rob did a season ago. But he’s still the cult leader of the game’s remaining cult. If an Upolu tribe member is going to win the game it's got to be Coach. He's by far done more this season than Sophie (who's done nothing), Albert (ditto), Brandon (ditto) and Rick (a big ditto). In fact, I can't think of any realistic scenario where he’s not in the final three. The jury would likely favor him over anyone other than Ozzy.

If there's a dark horse in this bunch, it's Sophie. She’s the only player to have won multiple immunity challenges (though it's only been two). If anyone can challenge Ozzy, it will have to be her. Plus, she seems to have made few enemies along the way.

If Coach turns his back on his “Christian man” promise to Ozzy, you can make a case that Coach has betrayed Ozzy, Brandon, Edna and Cochran. It's a long shot, but she could pick up enough votes.

Will it say something about this reality game if, for the second season in a row, one of the two All-Stars pitted with regular castaways wins? Probably. But imagine how awful this season would have been without Coach and Ozzy.

Enjoy Survivor while it lasts; it feels like it's on life support.
