Teen charged for stealing Bird phone
Sevent e en- year - old Jason DeNobrega pleaded not guilty to a larceny from the person charge when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive- Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistratesβ Courts.
It is alleged that Rosanna Joseph was walking in Georgetown when DeNobrega rode up on a bicycle and snatched the victimβs Bird cell phone valued at $ 29,000. An alarm was raised and public- spirited citizens rushed after and caught the defendant with the phone.
The defendant made a bail application, but police prosecutor Vernette Pindar objected to bail, noting that the defendant told the police that he lived in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, however in court he told the magistrate that he was a South Ruimveldt resident.
Bail was refused, which led to DeNobrega verbally accosting his arresting officer, β You see, I innocent,β he told him.
The accused will return to court on May 25.
