I was in Germany a couple of years ago for work and couldn't wait to jump on the autobahn. The client in Germany took care of the auto rental and had a VW Polo waiting for me. I never even knew VW had a Polo. Anyway, on the autobahn, I floored the gas pedal, and although the rental agency had capped the speed, I was feeling really good doing around 105 mph when I heard zip, followed by another zip, then a hell of a lot more zips. Felt like I was standing still. There were black dots in the rear view mirror that grew bigger at an alarming rate then zipped by and disappeared, literally, over the horizon. What an embarrassing experience.

105MPH is third gear in my car at around 5000RPM. A lot of European cars that can do high speed are capped at about 155MPH. But of course you can have the limiter bypassed by a specialist ECU reprogrammer.

I should check mine, it's a '98 c280. I've only done 109 mph /175km with lots more pedal left and I aint about to lose my license on the streets where the limit is 60mph. I'll probably take this car off the street and do some work on it,make it worth more. If you buyin a vehicle make it German, If a TV or stereo, Jap, If is for a Burger, head over to Burger King.
