Raphael Trotman

Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Raphael Trotman has announced that he will not be running for any senior party position as delegates meet to elect a new Leader and executive.

He made the declaration at the opening of the AFC's Third National Conference on Saturday citing his duties as Speaker of the National Assembly as the reason.

"Firstly, I believe that I cannot provide the strong and steady representation and leadership that the executive and members need whilst performing and fulfilling my duties as Speaker because of the nature of that office and its unending demands on me.

Secondly, I am of the firm conviction that a political party and moreso the Alliance For Change, like a living organism, must grow, must adapt, must evolve continuously if it is to remain relevant and connected to its members and the wider society as a whole," Trotman stated.

However, he assured the party members that he was not retiring from politics or the AFC stating "I'm going to be here forever."

Trotman also reiterated his support for Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan to succeed him as Leader for the party they, along with the late Sheila Holder, founded in 2005. Ramjattan's ratification is expected to be unchallenged.

He also put the party faithful on guard for national polls saying it was likely to happen before 2016.

"It is time that we put our house in order and to begin to prepare for the next elections which are likely to come before 2016. We need to have a cadre of strong leaders, national leaders, servant leaders who extend throughout every region, village, and street.

We need to identify them, train them, support them, protect them," Trotman stated.

He also announced that Holder's widower, Noel, was now the AFC's National Coordinator.

Earlier, Ramjattan referenced the situation in Linden and reiterated the argument that Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee take "ministerial responsibility" for the events which resulted in the deaths of three protesters in clashes with the police.

β€œBrothers and sisters, we have to bring back accountability to this country and if we have to make on the streets an example of Clement Rohee going we will have to do that," he declared to applause.

The opposition parties on Tuesday used their majority in the National Assembly to pass a motion of no confidence in the minister calling for him to resign or be dismissed. The government is not constitutionally bound to act on the motion.

In addition to the Leader, the AFC will be electing the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and 12 Committee members.

The AFC predicts early elections, no wonder they have been up to their cunning games.  However they will be surprised that the next elections will be their demise!!

AFC will secure seats; less than the last election.

Yeps an election can take place within the term-period but why is Trotman so confident that the next election will be before 2016.  Let's hope they secure at least one seat!!

Continued demonstration of his inabilities to be independent for the position of Speaker.

The AFC is seen as an 'arm' of the PNC..so most likely they will draw some of the PNC votes, especially from Linden.  The PPP will most likely regain all the votes they lost to the AFC in the last elections and come out as a majority winner.

=====

The MAIN hindrance to development is the PPP's backward economic policies. These range from a flawed LCDS, a useless one lap top policy, a bogus sugar factory, stuipd grow more campaign, poor infrastructure, bad foreign policy, failure to nurture ONE NEW business the size of Banks DIH or DDL in 19 years. These are coupled with terrible politics and unaccountability. No audits for NICL, efforts to rig the audit process by inserting the MOF's wife, oppositon are locked out of NCN and Chronicle, one radio station, no local government election for 17 years. I will list some more for you if you want...long story short the biggest hindrance is the PPP's resource grab by creating an oligarchy for the benefit of ONLY friends and family.

What has Ramotar, the surrogate President, done to regain the votes the PPP lost in the last elections?

That would be the case if there were actually any strategy for development in place. LCDS is a begging finite source and our hope for oil is not a panacea even if we actually find oil. The AFC is helping to keep what little we have from the embedded thieves in the administration.

Utter nonsense. More braying from AFC stooge and poster boy Storm. AFC is a hindrance to economic progress. Period.

We need to be reminded that Trotman jumped the sinking AFC ship more will soon follow.

Were you possessed with a brain one would worry.  Trotman is with the AFC and the party is doing just fine.

You clowns chastised Trotman for retaining the AFC leadership and assuming the post of Speaker of the House. You were screaming for months that it was a conflict of interest for him to be in the two positions at the same time. Now the man has stepped down from the AFC leadership, you peddle the lie that he's left the AFC. Don't you people have no shame, lying "barefaced"?

So because this happened to the PPP in the 1950's, that means that it will also happen with the AFC in the 2010's?

No wonder you've been told that your logic is beyond screwed up.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? Are you really this stupid?

The next thing you will try to tell me is that my grandparents were divorced in the 1950's, therefore I am about to get a divorce from my wife.

The two events have nothing to do with each other except in your shallow head.

If Trotman ever leaves the party, it will be because he has differences with the party, not because Burnham and Jagan split in the 1950's.

Correct.

Many of the overseas supporters are financiers will not move their families back to serve.  They are playing a dangerous game from afar and hope to gain privileges and opportunities should the PPP be brought down.  Many will get short-term favors then will be tossed aside by the PNC and the local Indian population will be trampled over, oppressed  and eventually "ethnically cleansed" to the point of minority.

I doubt it.  This latest linden shenanigins have sealed their faith.  The AFC will lose most of the Nagamootoo voters and gain some from Linden.  The result, PPP will retake close to 60% and the rest split PNC/AFC.
