| TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Karen Small, who had initially denied having 22 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) in her vagina, was found guilty of drug trafficking, last week, Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo imposed a three-year prison term on Small and fined her $26,400 with an alternative of an additional three weeks in jail.The evidence, led in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, said, on August 13 , 2011, police, acting on a tip-off, went to the home of the prisoner at Angoy’s Avenue, also in New Amsterdam, where searches were carried out on her adjoining business premises. But nothing of evidential value was unearthed there. However, the woman was escorted to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam. Police Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, prosecuting, led other testimony from Woman Constable Collins, who testified that, on asking Small to undress, she observed a white plastic bag protruding from the woman’s vagina. The bag, when removed, was found to contain 15 small ziplock packets in which were leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant. |
