Hey Chief
my trip back was very bitter-sweet.
first time back in almost 10 years
the death of a 20yr old was very hard on the family.
Guyana.....what i actually saw were....
lots of nice big houses (looks like more middle-class now)
lots of nice new and big vehicles
lots and lots of small businesses
lots of mini malls
lots of new buildings going up
but don't ask me where peeps are getting the money from to do these things.....as salaries are still low
mind you.....i met several peeps who I know from canada and usa.....who have gone back to live there....and they have built massive houses and living the same as they were in NA.

I haven't gone back to GY in so long because of only one thing.....fear.
i got there and surprisingly i wasn't afraid at all....even though it is close to election time
mind you i kept a very low profile....so that might account for my feeling safe.

Low profile or not, we have distinctive accents. They also know from your clothes, shoes and I bet the thieves can smell you. I am happy you are back safe.quote:Originally posted by Villagebelle:

my low profile meant.....i didn't go out much unless it was to visit relatives.
but what you said is is so very true. before going to g/town one day my niece said to me....'aunty...remember to keep you mouth shut'!
so i am just following and let them do all the shopping and this beggar comes up to me, stretches his hands out and said...'Ms america, gimme wan raise'!

bai....i am not into politics at all....not my thing.
coincidentally.....from my famo's conversations.....it seems that most of them are planning to vote AFC!!
time for a change they said
too much bribery and corruption they said
if this materializes at the polling station is another thing.

VB, I'm smiling here thinking about your niece's comment. I'm a very talkative person, and I most certainly would find it hard to keep my mouth shut
