President David Granger delivered the keynote address today at the opening of the two-day Guyana Business Summit, but not before the Private Service Commission (PSC) rolled out a laundry list of items which the business sector needed clarity on.
PSC Chairman Eddie Boyerβs remarks, which were delivered by the PSCβs Deodat Indar, called on the president to clarify governmentβs approach to economic development, taxation policy, an incentive program for business, plans to strengthen democracy and ensure the rule of law is maintained.
The PSC Chairmanβs remarks pressed the President for plans to develop the quality of life for all citizens and also how government intends to work with the private sector to create jobs for young and under-utilized population.
βIn addition, Your Excellency can provide direction on the oil and gas sector on areas where we will spend revenue from the expected wealth deriving from royalties. Since Government is the biggest spender, this will assist the private sector, where and when to invest, in order to be an anticipated recipient of government contracts. I also would like His Excellency to address what are his plans to address the prison system and wider security issues in the country that cause businesses to be on the edge due to the level of robberies and other crimes experienced in the country,β Boyer stated.
President Granger stuck to his prepared speech, calling on private sector businesses to join governmentβs plan of providing a βgood lifeβ for all Guyanese while incorporating small and medium size businesses in the overall plan to drive future development.
βThe economy is being re-balanced also by investing in the development of micro, small and medium-size enterprises which constitute half of the economy and is expected to contribute about 30% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The Government sees development in a holistic way. Horizontally, across all 10 regions and vertically from the household right through to the big corporations,β President Granger told the gathering.
In the past, the now more than two-year old APNU+AFC-led government had blamed drug trafficking, gold smuggling and corruption as reasons for heightened economic activity under the then Peopleβs Progressive Party Civic (PPPC)-led administration which lost power for the first time in 23 years in May, 2015.
He said that farmers and fisher-folk must be part of gatherings such as the Guyana Business Conference. President Granger assured that Government supports the private sector.
The conference, which is supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is being held under the theme, βChallenges and Opportunities for Business Growth and Developmentβ.
The opposition Peopleβs Progressive Party (PPP) has said its representatives would attend the forum and challenge government on a range of issues including procurement, the oil and gas sector, among others.
The IDB recently said it was providing government with assistance to examine the viability of establishing a special unit to implement multi-million dollar projects and programmes. Finance Minister, Winston Jordan has said the Public Sector Investment Programme has been performing poorly, partly resulting in slow economic activity.
Our benevolent jackass for president economic plans are to spend tax payers dollars on buses and boats with his jackass name emblazoned across the vehicles, as self promotion. He will not have any answers to impromptu questions as he will need talking points from his "advisers" just like limohan, djangy and others need OP briefings before they can respond to posts.
Why are they asking Granger such a difficult question. Neither he nor Jagdeo have any strategy. Granger's is to dream and Jagdeo's is to steal.
The only folks who had vision were the guys like Stanley Ming and others who have now given up. Guyanese aren't interested.

Bai, I am not the one who is referred to as "dull boy", "slow boy" "slop can boy" "pnc news boy" etc.
You by your own actions have displayed mental distress at not achieving academic excellence. No wonder you were recruited by the PNC to peddle their propaganda. An empty vessel is the best recruit for following blindly.
I on the other hand don't need to brag about my accomplishments. I have schooled posters like CAribJ, d2, gilly and others even if they don't admit it.

I see that the brain injuries that you sustained from the blows that those Portuguese boys gave you while you attended Saints in August have really damaged you.
What schooling do you do. For years I told you about CSME and you screamed that I was using big words that you didn't understand and that I was lying. Then the other day you finally figured this out and scream that no one else knows this.
You probably have forgotten what CSME is by now.

I had to school you about csme, show me a post from the archives where you mentioned this agreement that finally allowed for the free movement of Caribbean people? You instead were confusing the movement of people with flight, blaming Jagdeo and the ppp as it suited your purpose of demonizing them. Over the years I have given you a university education that would have cost you, 100 of thousands of dollars, for free.

Look who talking, the same jackass that has caved in and resorted to name calling. But this is to be expected since you are being mentored by lilmohan and were a student of the late jalil.

Tell me what CSME is. Do so in your own words and tell me why CSME meant Guyanese fled to the Islands and virtually no Islanders came to Guyana.
Now one would think with its natural resource potential and relatively small population Guyana would offer more growth prospects. Not having to resort to gimmickry like selling passports and inviting off shore colleges in order to survive.
But Druggie doesn't understand that it isn't CSME that led to Guyanese fleeing to Nevis. Its the fact that wages in Nevis are higher than they are in Guyana and CSME provided a legitimate vehicle for Guyanese to benefit from this.
Druggie cannot tell us why Nevis, an island that 30 years ago only had goats running around and nothing else, has attracted Guyanese yet no Nevisian bothers with Guyana!
Druggie if you understand CSME you would know that few Guyanese who work in tourism benefitted from this. CSME is for professionals, and skilled workers. Not people who clean out hotel toilets are who landscape hotel lawns.
The Guyanese who benefitted from CSME are heavily teachers, and nurses and other professionals, few working in tourism. Given that Guyana doesn't have a tourist industry Guyanese aren't going to have the management and other skills that would qualify them to get jobs in tourism.
And druggie let me add more. Initially CSME was focused on professionals and other educated folks. Jagdeo, seeing that his PPP supporters had to get menial jobs in these islands and were being harassed by the local authorities, begged and screamed that they also be included. Now if some one can prove that they have vocational training they qualify for CSME.
Druggie these are facts that I know and I didn't have to cut and paste as you do.
And druggie CSME as impacts movement of workers was implemented in 2006. Guyanese began to migrate to those islands in 2000. Workers who aren't college graduates weren't added until 2008. This was AFTER Barbados began to toss out Guyanese.
You will recall that in 2005 Barbadian authorities were arresting Guyanese at early hours in the morning and sending them to the airport still dressed in their sleeping clothes. I only hope that those who sleep naked were allowed to grab something to wear.
So no druggie you schooled me in nothing. Because you don't even get your facts correct.

I believe if you look up these terms in a reputable dictionary you will find a picture of yourself as a pictorial example.

Now that I schooled you, you have the nerve to question the professor. This could be dangerous, finals are not marked yet, you could get an "F".
Provide the evidence of your claims above and we will have a discussion. Prior to CSME, unskilled people were prohibited from working in islands legally, so please do the needful and show the evidence of your claims and timeline. This could get you extra credit from prof druggie.

Please provide the evidence of these claims. As usual you lie and expect us to believe. Show the numbers of Guyanese flooding the island prior to CSME implementation in 2006 and the amendment in 2008 citing sources. Lack of sources will incur marks being taken off of your final grade

Druggie I spoke of CSME in 2011. Your response was some rambling about white sand beaches as if you think that Guyanese nurses and teachers fled to Antigua to swim in the blue sea.
Do yourself a favor. Use the GNI search function and type in CSME and see what comes up.

In 2006 Barbados was quite hostile to Guyanese.
1. These Guyanese clearly had to have been present in large numbers in Barbados prior to 2006.
2. Barbados would NOT be tossing out teachers and nurses given that these people were specifically recruited into Barbados mainly to work in gov't owned institutions and had work permits.
3. I draw attention to the fact that the CSME rules in force in 2006 were limited to professionals and to people in managerial and supervisory positions. Please outline how many Guyanese would have had professional, managerial or supervisory expertise to work in the tourist industry. Clearly then the Guyanese in Barbados UNDER CSME would have been there in OTHER occupations, the largest being in teaching and nursing!
It's all empty promises which they cannot deliver. How will they work with the Private sector to create jobs and what kind. So far since the PNC took over the Government, it has been all talk and no work. They haven,t done anything to be reelected for another term.
The PPP Government was completing two projects every week. What is the PNC doing?

Prof druggie does not accept your weak explanations. You have not presented the evidence of CSME rules in 2006 that restricted Caricom residents to only "skilled". Also like a sub rate student like d2, you missed this in the article you referenced:
How could they be there illegally if the prime minister acknowledges below? :
"If it were not for Guyanese labourers in this country doing work that Barbadians no longer seem to want to do, agriculture would have collapsed." Prime Minister Owen Arthur is fond of saying.
In addition you missed this, go Argue with Arthur, no credit for you this marking period:
He suggested that Barbadians were double-counting Guyanese immigrants because many of them were on short-term working contracts.
