I love how the organ sound is there with the horn same time, sweet.

that is a pricy piece of equipment. I do not play keyboards but I have an old DX7 that I fool around with.

5k for a whole orchestra, banna that thing cheap.

For drums, I prefer a drummer and real drums whether drum kit,djambies,Tim Pan, the computerized drums I don't care for.

This one I heard on the Tycoss, I can tolerate for a while.

       
       


you can program different instruments for the chords and notes.

This is the one I just got, price was right so I took it. It's a baby compared to that thing above.

I will check out some other brands/ models. I like this one has it a database of over 1000 popular songs from the 60's onwards and you can download others. Something to fool around with when I got friends over.

I'll be playing around with it on my spare time and learn more. Not a bad toy, that's for sure. When I plugged it to my amp it sounded great.

that does not look like a conversation piece. Plus, music is what you do. I pick up my guitar for at least half an hour a day and often lots more. With something like that one has to play it at least the same amount of time with an audience or not. Music is just what is inside you coming through the instrument for no reason except the ear want to loop it back to the brain as a pleasurable experience. It is why we live.

Thanks for the advice. I used to play the guitar a lot but haven't picked up one in 2 years. I have lost a lot of speed and dexterity. I now find the keyboard easier as I can play straight off the music sheet without much practice or memorization. The Tyros is surplus to my requirements but I have some buddies who are pros so it is mostly for them when they come over.

 

Don't know if you remember Eddie Hinds from Guyana. He was quite a good saxophonist and my music teacher for 4 years at QC. I credit him for getting me interested in music and learning play the guitar and keyboard. Wonder if anyone knows if he is still around.

Eddie had a recording Studio. he used to visit my Uncle's shop on occasion to shoot the breeze.

Didn't he also do a couple songs?

 I did not formally take music classes until about 10 years ago. I never learnt scales etc. I just played as I felt the music. While it made me a good player it took learning music and understanding where and how things fit together that made me a good musician. I wish I had started earlier but I do not think I will ever stop formally taking classes or learning from friends. One can never stop learning news ways of seeing sounds. I am a sound-color synesthesiac so it is a natural addiction.

This is something I've always said when asked "where did I study music?"

Sure, studying music is great, but you have to feel that music or all that learning simply goes to waste.

The only music I studied was drumming but that was just for about a year but dropped it. Playing drums in an apartment just didn't cut it, especially at **ahem ** 3am. I also moved around a lot at that time.

 

 

 

 

 

music is all about translating feeling to sound. Understanding the musical alphabet and the mechanics of sound is simply to talk about it. One can be adept at this as Antonio Salieri was but an Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is born with music in their heads.

Just get one of these little things and you can make sweet music. this girl is talented.

 

 

 

I wish she stand up or sit so her lungs  can open up and she can sing from the diaphragm. She is singing from her throat sitting that way  and while it sounds good she could be vastly better. She is however a techno freak.

How is the Tyros 4 working out? I am taking it that you did get that model and having a blast with it.

 

I have been using the Yamaha PSR S-950 for about 3 years now and I am amazed by what this unit can produced.

 

I have been dabbling with creating my own Yamaha Styles as backing music and have been moderately successful. Have you gone down that path to create your own Yamaha Style files for the Tyros 4? The Tyros 4 and the S-950 style files can be shared but it might need some re-voicing based on the instruments used in creating the style file parts.

 

I would love to collaborate with you or any other keyboardist on GNI to enhance my knowledge in this area.

 

My genre is mainly around Indian / Bollywood music, including North Indian Classical. Because of the uniqueness of the Indian ethnic instruments (tabla, sitar, basuri, dholak, dhol, harmonium) and the complex structure of tabla / dholak beats, it is quite a challenge to develop backing music using an Arranger like the Tyros or S-950.

 

Like the Tyros - the S-950 has Indian ethic sounds built into it and there are several Indian drum kits available to use.

 

I would love to get some thoughts from you or any other GNIer on this topic.
