I CAN SEE WHY THE MOVIE FIRE OFFENDED AND PIS$ED OFF LOTS ON INDIAN MEN---it addresses a lot of truths.

* Lots of Indian wives are trapped in loveless, sexless marriages----the lesbianism was the affair between 2 oppressed wives living under the same roof.

* The movie also addresses the dysfunctional Indian family---it's not healthy for a bunch of in-laws to live together.

* There is also a pressure on women to reproduce.

* Some hindus have a reverence for celibacy---in the movie Radha is in a sexless marriage---and her husband spends money on some guru preaching the "heavenliness" of celibacy.

WHO WANTS TO DISCUSS THE MOVIE ?

* By the way, remember when Sita and her husband were at the Taj Mahal---they were married for only 3 days----she told him she likes ROMANCE movies---he replied he likes kung fu and Jackie chan---and we find out later he has a Chinese mistress.

* WOMEN CRAVE INTIMACY; LOTS OF MEN JUST WANT A HOLE THAT PROVIDES FRICTION AND LUBRICATION.

* Look at the movie and let's have a discussion.

Deepa Mehta is one of India's top film maker. Not your typical bollywood fluff and songs.

Actually....Deepa Mehta is Canadian!

She went back to India to make these movies and met with very strong oppoisiton.....but she persevered and made excellent movies.

* He must have been blessed with some great scripts and maybe he was/is a great actor.

* But in the looks department that bloke is more suited to work at that Patel grocery riya and Miraver shop at.

* Now I can understand the ladies drooling over John Abraham---the young man has the chiseled features and the symmetry---he is, indeed, handsome.

* But handsome Abraham hasn't achieved 10% of the success ugly duckling SRK has achieved.

* There is no question SRK has been immensely successful in Bollywood.

* I was just curious how such an ugly duckling climbed such great heights.

* Maybe he was magical delivering his lines and doing what male Indian actors do---dance, cry, sing, run around trees, etc, etc---maybe he is just a great actor. That's it.

Thanks Riya  he has talent and charisma but this is the first time I have heard him called an ugly duckling.

* Lordy! Lordy! It looks like the Rev has landed in hot waters with the ladies on GNI for calling SRK short and ugly.

* Arrite! Arrite! Lemme make some amends---I read Anjali's comments about SRK being a man of charisma and talent---I guess women are attracted to and and put a big value on men like Sharukh Khan who make them smile, make them laugh, and make the feel good about themselves---Guess once a man projects enthusiasm and sex appeal---he's got it made with the smarter sex.

* Thank god for the way women think--even a frog can magically become a prince if he has talent, intelligence, charisma, and a sense of humor.hahaha

PAGING MIRAVER:

* I see you took a break from your thread and we are now chatting about the charismatic SRK being short and ordinary looking---I will no longer call him ugly.

* Anyway, Thanks for posting the link to FIRE---it was a good movie---lots of controversial subjects----oppressed Indian wives, dysfunctional Indian families(multiple in-laws living under the same roof), the reverence for celibacy by some hindus, women being short-changed when it comes to intimacy, etc, etc,

I'm glad you come to your senses

It's not always about looks.  I agreed he is not your classic handsome man, SRK is considered as ruggedly handsome in my books. He's charismatic, dynamic and have just the right appeal to make him a dashing man

Another example - I wouldn't consider Daniel Craig as a handsome man but he is super attractive and makes me swoon

Nurse Riya:

* You mentioned "your books", where can I buy copies I'd love to read them---you strike the Rev as a very knowledgeable and  interesting woman.

* Anyway, Thanks for sharing with the forum the kinds of men who get your juices/hormones/dopamine flowing.

* By the way riya, did you know studies have shown that "there is a shift in male preference by women during their menstrual cycle---and most women are attracted to men with masculine bodies during ovulation but do not desire them as long term partners---I guess when the ovulation ceases that's when "super attractive" men like the man who makes you "swoon",Daniel Craig,  stimulate the female hormones---but during ovulation---the masculine breed gets the "juices" flowing.

* Good lord women are complex.

* Anyway, Is there any truth in that study nurse riya ?

I can prove that study wrong. I'm attracted to Daniel Craig, Jason Statham and SRK 365 days!

* Well riya, you were surely right when you said you liked your men "ruggedly handsome."hahaha

* Those romance Mills and Boon fiction served you well.

Kzaaz, don't confuse talent with stardom. SRK is one-dimensional - he rarely acts with range like he did in Chak de India.

Meryl Streep has talent and none can touch her; Demi Moore has stardom. Madonna has stardom but Cindy Lauper was a better singer.

Hollywood actors who combined both talent and stardom - Marlon Brando and Tom Cruise. The closest thing Bollywood has would be Amitabh Bachan and to some extent Aamir Khan. Shah Rouk? put his name on a movie and it draws a crowd; but as he said once while accepting an award "you want to see power, go see Amitabh in Black"!

Bai, we talking Bollywood. If you want to combine them no one in the world come close to Amitabh for acting and no one in the world come close to Rafi and Lata for singing. But since we are talking Bollywood and SRK, to say that he is a star but not talented is incorrect. For that I draw your attention to Mohabbatein during some of his scenes with Amitabh.

Kzaazzzz, I  say he is one-dimensional. He lacks range. His buffoonery as a grown man walking around like a high school boy with back-back and pretend basketball was ludicrous - and he even brought that image to one of his tours to New York.

You have to look at the body of work of Aamir Khan (who only gets involved in movies with good scripts) and Irfaan Khan, and see the deficiencies in Shah Rukh Khan's acting.
