Prominent Attorney-at-Law, Anil Nandlall is Guyana's new Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs and he will be among several new and well-known faces to be sworn in as cabinet members on Monday afternoon, according to well-placed sources.

Nandlall has been former President, Bharrat Jagdeo's personal lawyer and has been lead counsel in a libel case against newspaper columnist, Freddie Kissoon. That matter is yet to conclude before Justice Brassington Reynolds.

Mr. Juan Edghill, a former chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), is also expected to be sworn in as a government minister at State House at 1 PM. His portfolio was not immediately known.

Other sources say that four ministers have retained their portfolios from the Bharrat Jagdeo administration. They are Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues; Minister of Public Works, Robeson Benn; Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh and Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee.

The new Minister of Health would be Dr. Bheri Ramsarran. Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, who had been at the helm of that Ministry since 2001, would be heading the Ministry of Agriculture.

Priya Manickchand will be the new Minister of Education and Jennifer Webster will be the new Minister of Human Services.

Newly-elected President, Donald Ramotar has said that he would be naming an all-Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) although his party has a one-seat minority in the 65-seat National Assembly. The opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has been insisting on a government of national unity.

APNU, seemingly at pains to tone down its protests, has been saying that it would use the one-seat combined opposition majority with the Alliance For Change (AFC) to press the Executive to take a number of decisions in the best interest of the people.

Whose preferred option ?....what I see here is Ramouthar just made his first mistake in not putting together an inclusive govt.....

I will be honest. The AFC would be the ideal party for Guyana, but unfortunately it will gravitate to becoming an Indo party and just continue to whittle down the PPP base.
The Afros want an Afro party to rule the country, and they will not rest until this happens, and it will eventually happen as they become the majority.
The AFC has good intentions but the timing is unfortunately not right.

She has been there for some time now and there is no reason for her not to acquire some experience that would give her an edge over any other candidate. When she was selected I objected. Now, she is a knows what it entails and has not made any mistakes to this point. I personally do not know her so I do not know her intellectual capacity. I also have not read any thing of hers so she is in that respect a blank slate. However, if there is any other you know to be more capable then list them. Otherwise, calling her marginal is simply an easy accusation and not grounded in any objective fact.

I know of no business model where one would advise a course to prudently recycle failures. It only happens in insular, calcified, culturally closed organizations. Surely there are others quite competent in our society but our political reality of recycling without renewal persists. It is why we have a post Soviet collapse communist refuge in office.

The government will not last 3 years. APNU has its strategy of mobilization through opposition, agitation and irritation and it will galvanize its disenchanted and discontented. The PPP is getting what it deserves. It's corrupt, insular autocratically racist rule has left us with no bulwark against another racial flip flop and another 20 years into the racist wilderness. Pray that the AFC leadership are men and women of the caliber they profess to be and that they are prepared to be resolute to the stand between us and the darkness on both sides of our racist reality. Pray they get at least 2 times the seats we have now on the next go around so they can actually independently force changes.
