* The subject of this thread deals with CONSTRUCTION in Guyana.

* And like I said---everywhere you go in Guyana---you see new construction all over the place.

I always praise the PPP government for their ongoing effort to transform Guyana the way it is today. I even hope Bobby Ramroop won the bid to buy over Bourda CC and the Football field and build another stadium as he had planned. However, progress is more than just building and structures. Taken care of people's needs is priority number one. Better wage, proper drainage, clean and healthy living environment, emergency response and disaster relief, free from crime and corruption, security, and a host of social services available to the people in time of emergency. My way of looking at progress starts with the people.

* You are focusing on social progress or lack thereof in Guyana, while the Rev is focusing on economic progress.

* Listen! Both you and the Rev reside in the richest country on the planet---and right here in the great US of A you have nearly 50 million people struggling to put food on the table----they are on food stamps---and you have millions without healthcare.

* So if the USA can fall short when it comes to social progress, it is not surprising that poor Guyana is also facing problems socially.

* But I maintain that the boom in construction in Guyana is a sign of progress---economic progress----and that is good for Guyana.

* By the way cobra, when is the last time you visited Guyana ? Ask sheik to update you on the new schools, clinics, infrastructure projects that have been developed under the PPP----have him update you on the pensions being paid to the elderly and the free health care they are receiving.

* It's OK to complain about the shortcomings of the PPP---and there are many----but once in a while you need to be more broadminded and give genuine praise where it's due.

* The PPP has its flaws---but Guyana is a much better place, socially and economically, under the PPP than when it was run by the PNC---those cretins actually ruined and bankrupted the country.

Are you suggesting the Rev leave heaven on earth(the Big Apple---New York City---the most exciting city in the world) and go live in a dull, boring, lifeless, characterless, insipid place like Guyana ? hahaha

* NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!!!!

* I want to see continued progress in Guyana.

* I love visiting Guyana.

* But no way I could ever live permanently in a trite and tedious place like Guyana---and by the way, that friggin place is too hot for the Rev.

* One last thing--if Obama and Ramotar declared war on each other's country---Rev will be rooting for Obama to blast Ramotar out of existence.lol

So Mr. Revsta, how exactly do you contribute to the economic progress of Guyana?

Mitwah

It's great to see the construction boom in Guyana.

However, with regard to construction in Georgetown, I have one concern. The new glass and concrete buildings are depriving the city of its world-renowned uniqueness. Its airy wooden buildings with distinctive verandahs, doors and casement windows are fast becoming extinct.

Some of the new glass and concrete structures look like glorified storage facilities.

We must embrace progress, but we must incorporate tradition too in our construction drive.

Construction is an indication of economic progress and confidence in an economy. Kudos to the PPP. People lined up everywhere during the PNC days for food and basic necessities. The people will have to choose progress or PNC donkey cart economics at the next election.

$5 MILLION(US) COURTS WAREHOUSE TO BE CONSTRUCTED

Courts Guyana will be expanding their storage bond at Eccles New housing scheme, East Bank Demerara.

This new 60 thousand squared foot distribution centre will service and provide more items for the various branches across the country.

Courts will be investing over US$5M with this state of the art distribution centre.

* Businesses are expanding in Guyana.

* More CONSTRUCTION equals more jobs.

* Business expansion means more revenues for the government.

* More tax revenues means more investment by the government in the social sector.

BOTTOM LINE:

Progress can be seen all across Guyana---BOOM TIMES In CONSTRUCTION---this is a vexation for the losers and whiners who support the PNC/AFC.

Gil has a point. Guyana lacks proper zoning and construction codes.

Those designs are not conducive to the Central Air systems being installed.  But I agree, preserving a bit of tradition would be nice.

True but that's due to gold, remittances and money laundering.  Other than money laundering, I don't see what that has to do with the PPP.

Those old buildings were designed PRECISELY to reduce the need for the massive central air conditioning.  Do these people ever think about energy conservation.

Any way there are ways to build in a "traditional" manner but yet still incorporate modern requirements.

But we have a bunch of peasants in Guyana who think every building should look like something more appropriate to Canada with its harsh winters..

Aside from rice what has the PPP done to deserve such praise.  Oh yes encouraging widespread money laundering.

But most of the cash flow, aside from money laundering, is from gold and remittances.  Sources of cash that the PPP has no control over.

The job of govt is not to run industry but to facilitate. The fact is that because of this facilitation,  investors are confident enough in the economy to plunge millions of dollars in fixed properties, indicating a long term perspective. In the past you had to beg foreign investors to build in Guyana, now you have local and expats(the same folks who ran away under the pnc/afc rule) doing the investing. This is the ultimate sign of investor confidence. Even a consummate sourpuss like yourself can not dispute this fact.

The old buildings were built in a different era when AC was not available. Show me where in the tropics developers are constructing large edifices without air conditioning.

or

GDP = C + G + I + NX

where:

"C" is equal to all private consumption, or consumer spending, in a nation's economy
"G" is the sum of government spending
"I" is the sum of all the country's businesses spending on capital
"NX" is the nation's total net exports, calculated as total exports minus total imports. (NX = Exports - Imports)

* BOOMING CONSTRUCTION adds to the Nation's GDP----consumers spending on houses---businesses spending on new facilities

* As the Guyana economy expands---the government has more revenues to spend on social issues----education, healthcare, etc

MAY GUYANA CONTINUE TO BOOM.

And may the losers and whiners who support the PNC/AFC continue to be mentally tortured by the country's success.

* Politicians know this:

* And the PPP politicians know that no matter how much they steal---the people will keep them in power.

* By the way, when the PNC politicians stole---they bankrupted Guyana.

* But the PPP politicians are wiser----they are stealing----but at the same time they are making sure Guyana remains solvent.

MAY GUYANA CONTINUE TO BOOM UNDER THE PPP.

* Like poster BGurd said----the PPP has encouraged and facilitated the business sector in Guyana----the business sector has confidence in the PPP and in Guyana---and Guyanese are seeing the results---BOOM TIMES.

Rev, textbook economics doesn't work in Guyana.

* The Rev likes your creativity.

* Good job with your twist on C + I + G + (X-M)

BOTTOM LINE:

* But there is always a bottom line Gilbakka.

* You lived in Guyana under the PNC---and you saw those scoundrels destroy a beautiful country.

* Now, we know the PPP politicians are crooked and corrupt.

* But here is the BOTTOM LINE:

GUYANA IS PROGRESSING UNDER THE PEOPLES PROGRESSIVE PARTY.
