MUKESH:YESTERYEAR LEGEND

He was so good at his trade, his voice resonated with emotions, raw emotions that would hold one spellbound like the ancient mariner weaving a tale that must be told, and after then, that impact of that story would remain for a lifetime. Such was the golden voice of the Legendary Master, like a magician he would hold one fixated whils't he weaves his enchanting spell with accuracy at the beholders, who can only be dumbstruck with awe, such emotions and sadness would truly soothes the listeners and create that impact to last a lifetime. The man that was endowed with that "bardaan" was Mukesh Chand Mathur, known as Mukesh. .

In focusing our lens on this genious, we shall compile 100 of his songs, songs that are still popular, songs that has left an impact that we can relate to, songs that if you were to pass by a rumshop, you would see many a troubled souls taking solace in the tunes of Mukesh, wether it be a "Dost Dost Na Raha" or "O Mere Hamrahi"

In reminising on Mukesh, will we pull articles from the internet, we will features songs from different sites, we will pull lyrics from where we could obtain same, translations will be done by friends with credit given at the end of each song. Comments will be entertained.

Beforehand I would definately express our "Thank You" to the many providers of articles of which will be used. As usual our project will not be a profitable or monetary venture, but a venture to give satisfaction to the many fans of Mukesh.

Ray, you can use the ending of each song that we will be offering to do some advertisment, you can work it out with Amral. A brother helping another brother Wink

Did I forget anything? oh, Lynn,Saeed, DaFreak/Riya, will be looking for assistance from you guys.

Many years ago, at a singing competition in India for Rafi and Mukesh, the organizers called Rafi first, thinking he would win. Rafi went up, performed his finest songs, and got lots of wonderful praises, garlands and awards. Then Mukesh went and did his numbers. The crowd went ballistic for Mukesh and he got double of everything that Rafi got.

LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

Not many would know that Mukesh Chand Mathur, the singer who later came to be known as Mukesh wanted to be a film actor. He even acted in a few films but thankfully for Hindi film music lovers he got over his acting bug and decided to concentrate on his singing career and what a career it turned out to be. For 22 years he lulled his listeners with his voice and gave them songs that most of them will remember for the rest of their lives.

Background:

Mukesh Chandra Mathur was born on 22nd July 1923, in a small middle class family in Delhi. He was interested in acting and singing right from childhood and was a great fan of Kundan Lal Saigal. In spite of the fact that he only studied till the 10th standard he was able to obtain a good job as an assistant surveyor in the department of public works, where he worked for seven months.

However fate had other plans for him. While in Delhi Mukesh had recorded some non-film songs secretly. Then, Mukesh was bitten by the Bombay bug like scores of other young people before and after him. He arrived in Bombay with the hope of becoming a movie star. He stayed with his relative the famous actor Motilal.

Enters films with great hopes of becoming an actor but becomes a singer instead:
With Motilal's help, Mukesh got a role as an actor in the film Years later, he was to act again in Raj Kapoor's Aah in 1953. His debut as a singer however came in the film Nirdosh with the song ˜Dil hi buja hua ho to.' Then followed a duet with singer Kusum for the film Us Paar the song was ˜Jara boli ri ho.' He later went on to sing the song ˜Badariya baras gayi us paar' with Khursheed in the film Murti. By this time he had established a small place for himself in the hearts of his audience.

Then came an important milestone in his life. The year was 1945 and Anil Biswas asked him to record the song ˜Dil jalta hai to jalne de' for the film Pehli Nazar. That song brought a still relatively unknown Mukesh to the altar of public fame. A legend was born and in the coming decades his golden voice would be heard in songs from Aag Anokhi Adaand, Mela across the entire nation.

His idol was KL Saigal, he wanted to sing like KL with the same perfection, the very first song that he recorded :˜Dil jalta hai to jalne de' for the film Pehli Nazar, was greatly thaught to be Saigal's. The song was such a hit.
With that song, a new era was dawning. The greatness in Mukesh was not imitating Saigal, but to be his own singer. Master of his own fate,

The Song that started Mukesh career as a singer.

Mukesh was born on July 22, 1923 in a conservative, middle –class kaisth family in Delhi, India.

The two year period (1941-42) happened to be decisive in his life.

Eighteen year old Mukesh was doing his matriculation and his sister was being wedded.

In his sister's wedding ceremony, young Mukesh had sung a renowned song of those times, which had been originally recorded in Saigal's voice.

The story goes that couple of big wigs of the Indian film industry were amongst the invitees and they were sitting with the audience.

Those two movie-makers were so touched by this budding singer that the very next day they knocked the door of Mukesh and made an unsuccessful attempt to convince his father that Mukesh is a highly talented youth and that he could make a great name in the film world.

The father was a very reserved person and the only name he had ever heard about the filmdom was that of Saigal, so he replied that after my son passes his matriculation, I will find him a clerical job and that will be it.

The film- makers were disappointed by the answer, but came again and insisted that the father should allow his son to try his luck.

Eventually, Mukesh was granted permission by his father and he was offered a role in film "Nirdosh" which proved to be a flop and Mukesh was out on the street looking for a job.

For three years, he tried different things.

He worked as a stockbroker, then he became a dry fruit seller.

Then in 1945, he recorded a song in late Mazhar Khan's movie "Pehli Nazar": "Dil jalta hai" which was an instant hit.

"His master's voice" cashed in on this song, because the public purchased the gramophone records, thinking that Saigal was the singer.

Hence, for nearly two years, Saigal's name was stamped on Mukesh's voice.

The second song which Mukesh had rendered was a duet with Hamida Banu: "Ja perwanay ja, kaheen shama jal rahi hai" (Rajputani)

In those days,Mukesh was receiving training in Ranjeet studio and one day "Papa jee" (Prithvi Raj) accompanied with his son,Raj Kapoor, met the decision makersat Ranjeet and requested that since Raj is interested in movie business, so he should obtain the know-how and that Raj should begin his career as a "Quli"(porter).

At that time, the assistant director had to work as hard as a porter, hence the name.

As an assistant director, Raj also did the role of an actor in Sharma jee's film "Neel kanwal".

Thus Mukesh and Raj became very close friends and Raj depended so much on his friend that he never took any decision without consulting Mukesh.

One day, Raj took Mukesh to a far off place in his old ford car and told him that he intends to make a movie "Aag".

Mukesh was all praise for the script in general and Raj's enthusiasm in particular.

However, "Aag" was a failure according to the high standards of the golden era of the Indian movies.

Those were real testing times for both of them.

Moreover, people around them were making fun of "Aag".So much so that one film distributor said: "Mr. Raj, since you have made "Aag", so you should better make a theatre of your own, so that your theatre should burn and not ours."

However, "Aag's" failure was a blessing in disguise, according to Mukesh: "Aag" failed but Raj passed.

What happened was that an entrepreneur of high repute, Mr. V.Puri came forward and convinced Raj to gather an excellent team of dedicated and skilled personnel.

Thus, Raj selected luminaries like Alauddin, Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, Ramanand Sagar, Shankar Jaikishan,Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri, Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh, which resulted in numerous super hits like "Barsaat", "Awara", "Shri 420", "Sangam" "Mera naam jokar", "Jis desh mein ganga behti hai," "Boot polish", "Anari", "Aah", etc.

During his thirty five year association with singing, Mukesh had recorded 15,000 songs.

Perhaps, there is only one song which was composed by Mukesh: "Koi dil mein hai" (Anoorak).

Likewise, there is only one song which was picturized on Mukesh: "Choti see ye zindagani re"(Aah).

Apart from being a great singer, Mukesh was also a very great human being.

He was an embodiment of humility, sincerity and simplicity, who never compromised his values.

He had cast an incredibly long shadow.

In all his interviews and public appearances, he had applauded the accomplishments of his colleagues, and had always maintained that all the hit movies and songs had been possible because of the hard work of his co-workers.

He never took credit for the success of movies.

That was, indeed, the zenith of humanity.

Further, Mukesh never had an attitude in his life.

On the contrary, he always prayed for the well-being of even those folks who had hurt his feelings: "Sada khush rahay tu, jafa karnay walay, dua kar rahay hain, dua karnay walay."

Mukesh had experienced a brief period of bad times in 1959 and he had to sing a jingle for a cigarette company for survival.

Interestingly enough, in the same year, i.e., 1959, Mukesh also won the film award for the best singer: "Such hai duniya walo ke hum hain anari"(Anari).

"Awara hoon"(Awara) took his fame to Russia.

Besides, a circus team from Russia had also played a key role in "Mera naam jokar".

Basically, Mukesh was an extremely cool-minded person, he usually spoke simple words, used to wear plain clothes.

When the interviewers insisted upon the vital role of his songs in the movies this is what he had to say to them: "Well, I am indebted to the film makers who have chosen me as a singer"

The following lyrics will always remind us of Mukesh:

"Na hati hai, na ghora hai, wahan paidal he jana hai"

"Jo chala gaya,usay bhool ja"

"Hum chore chalay hain mehfil ko"

"Chup gaye ho, tau mujhe yaad bhi Aaya na karo"

"Rothi huwe taqdeer ko ab kaisay mana oon, toota huwa sitar hai ab kaisay baja oon"

"Apni qismat he kutch aisee thi keh dil toot gaya"

"Tu nay dekha na hoga ye sama,Kaisay jata hai dum tau dekh lay"

"Marnay ki khabar aye jaan-e-jigar,mil ja ye kabhi tau muth rona"

"Hamay zindagi say bohut pyar tha:Alwida, alwida, alwida"

Moreover, is it ever going to be possible for us to forget Mukesh's super hits like:

"Ruk ja o janay wali ruk ja"(Kanhaiya)

"Aa laut kay A ja meray meeth"(Rani roop mati)

"Bhooli huwe yado"(Sunjoak)

"Mujh ko is raat ki"(Dil bhi tera, hum bhi teray)

"wo teray pyar ka gham"(My love)

"Sub pyar ki baatain kartay hain"(Matlabi duniya)

"Hum nay apna sub kutch khoya"(Sarasvati chandar)

"Chandan sa badan"(Sarasvati chandar)

His two sons: Nitin and Manhar took keen interest in music and recorded a few songs, while his youngest son, Maheesh, showed no inclination towards singing.

It might never had occurred to Mukesh that his voice will leave so much pathos in its wake that it will fill our eyes with tears whenever we will listen to "Jitna jee chahay pukaro, phir nahi Aa ain gay hum"(Yahudi)

It seems that God did heard his prayer and called him back: "Teri duniya mein dil lagta nahi, wapas bula lay"(Banwaray nein)

Prominent interviewer, Raza Ali Abidi,(BBC's urdu transmission) had questioned Mukesh about his favorite song and Mukesh had sung these lyrics: "Koi jab tumhara hriday taur dey".

In another interview to Ameen Sayani, (Radio Sri lanka),Mukesh had said that "Mera naam jokar"and "Dosth, dosth na raha" (Sangam) had become his real life story: First, Shailendra died, then Shankar Jaikishan and then Mukesh, too.

"Mukesh went up to receive shanti for which he himself had said: "Dharti ko Aakash pukaray"(Mela)

Today, millions of his fans find solace in his voice

Mukesh Chand Mathur: A great name, a grand era and an integral part of the golden age of the Indian music died of an heart attack on August 27, (Friday evening) 1976, at the age of 53 in Detroit, U.S.A.: "Jhoomti chali hawa, yaad Aa gaya koi, bujhti, bujhti Aag ko phir jala gaya koi"

LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

The great singer had many imitators who strived to emulate the melancholy and pathos of his voice. The notables among them include Manhar and Babla Mehta from India, Neil Persad of Trinidad and our very own Prakash Gossai, Davendra Pooran and Kumar It was Kumar who won the first Mukesh singing competition held in Guyana in 1981.

Mukesh made several overseas concert tours – to Africa, England, USA, Canada and Surinam. He came to Guyana in 1967 and performed at the Queen's College auditorium to an appreciative audience.

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye
Somewhere far away, when the day ends
Sanjh Ki Dulhan Badan Churaye,Chupke Se Aaye
the bride of the dusk awakens to life and comes silently.
Mere Khayaalon Ke Aangan Mein Koi Sapnon (Ke Deep Jalaaye)2
in the courtyard of my thought, to light lamps of dreams.

Kabhi Yun Hi Jab Hooin Bojhal Saansen
At times when my breathing became heavy, for no reason at all,

At times when my eyes would fill with tears, for no reason at all,
Kabhi Machal Ke Pyar Se Chal Ke Chhuye Koi Mujhe Par (Nazar Na Aaye)2
someone walks up to me with love, touches my heart but i cannot see her

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye
Somewhere far away, when the day ends

Kahin To Yeh Dil Kabhi Mil Nahin Paate

Kahin Pe Nikal Aaye Janmon Ke Naate
and in other cases, old relations awaken to life.
Thami Thi Uljhan Bairi Apna Man, Apna Hi Hoke Sahe (Dard Paraaye)2
My troubles had halted but my silly heart bears the pain of others.

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye
Somewhere far away, when the day ends

i love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lyrics & translation

Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet
(Come, return to me my love)
Tujhe Mere Geet Bulate Hain
(My songs are calling out to you)
Mera Soona Padha Re Sangeet
(My music is barren/lonely/melodyless)
Tujhe Mere Geet Bulate Hai
(my songs are calling out to you)
Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet
(Come, return to me my friend)

Barse Gagan Mere Barse Nayan
(The sky/heaven is raining and so are my eyes)
Dekho Tarse Hai Man Ab To Aaja
(Look my heart is full of yearning, come now)
Sheetal Pavan Yeh Lagaye Agan
(Cool breeze burns me, lights a fire)
O Sajan Ab To Mukhada Dikha Ja
(O beloved, Now make an appearance)
Toone Bhali Re Nibhai Preet
(How well have you kept your promises of love)
Tujhe Mere Geet Bulate Hain
(My songs are calling out to you)
Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet
(Come, return to me my love)

Ek Pal Hai Hasna Ek Pal Hai Rona
(One moment we laugh, one moment we cry)
Kaisa Hai Jeevan Ka Khela
(what sort of a game is this life)
Ek Pal Hai Milna Ek Pal Bichhadna
(One mement we meet, the next we separate)
Duniya Hai Do Din Ka Mela
(This world is a Two Day Fair)
Yeh Ghadi Na Jaye Beet
(let this moment not pass)
Tujhe Mere Geet Bulate Hain
(my songs are calling out to you)

This is such a romantic song and Mukesh gave it of his soul. Wonderful.

Mujhko Is Raat Ki Tanhai Mein [ Lyrics ]
Movie Name : Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960)
Singer : Mukesh
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/p/x/QUpmc44p2t.As1NMvHdW/

lyrics & translation of this song
Mujhko Is Raat Ki Tanhaai Mein Aawaz Na Do
(Do not call out to me in the loneliness of the night)
Jiski Aawaz Rula De Mujhe Woh Saaz Na Do
(Whose sound that makes me cry, dont give me that instrument)
Awaaz Na Do...
(don't call out to me)

Roshni Ho Na Saki Dil Bhi Jalaya Maine
(There was no light even though I set my heart alight)
Tujhko Bhula Hi Nahin Lakh Bhulaya Maine
(I could not forget you no matter how much I tried)
Mein Pareshan Hoon Mujhe Aur Pareshan Na Karo
(I am troubled, don't add to my troubles)
Awaaz Na Do...
(Don't call out to me)

Is Kadar Jald Kiya Mujhse Kinara Tumne
(You tore yourself from me so fast and in such a way)
Koi Bhatkega Akela Yeh Na Socha Tumne
(some one will roam around alone, you did not give a thought)
Chhup Gaye Ho To Mujhe Yaad Bhi Aaya Na Karo
(Now that you are out of sight, don't come in my thoughts also)

see what i meant about some of Mukesh's songs being too sad????
....i used to love all of his songs as i was growing up as a kid and young woman...
later, as i began to understand the language (and see the movies)..i didnt like to listen to some of them...
this is a perfect example!!!
L
Hokay ... much refreshed... fortified by a life restoring cuppa....

Some minor changes in the lyrics ...

Basa lee Dil May Tere Yaad
Instilled in my heart, your memory
Asoo poonch leyay Rahay tu shaad
wiped away my tears, may you be happy
Hamara hai kya jeyai na jeyai
Me, Its not important that I live, or not

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
Noone saw as the heart broke

Kitne bhi taray tootay ho gaana kabhi andhiyara
No matter how many stars break, it will not be dark
Aasman par bahut hain taray
In the sky, many are the stars
Dil tha ek hamara, dil tha ek hamara
mine was just the one heart
Toot na jai quen dil usaka
How will his heart not break
Saathi Jisaka chuut gaya
He whose love was separated
Dekhaana kisine dil toot gaya
Noone saw as the heart broke

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
Noone saw as the heart broke

Chand ko apna daag hai pyara
The moon holds dear its blemish
Chuupi hai koyee kahani
Some tale is hidden behind this
Mai Bhi Chupai hoon seenay may
I too have concealed in my bossom
Kisse ki ek nishaani Kisse ki ek nishaani
someone's keepsake
Kaise Mana loon aanso apnay
How to persuade my tears
Baag hi Mujhasay roothe gaya
Luck is estranged from me
Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya
Noone saw as the heart broke

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
Noone saw as the heart broke

Such a beautiful song, as our colleague Saeed would say "It touches the very inner reaches of one's soul" and to add "which leaves many a person/s moist-eyed with its very heart-wrenching pathos and soul-stirring melancholy"

Basa lee Dil May Tere Yaad
Instilled in my heart, your memory
Asoo poonch leyay Rahay tu shaad
wiped away my tears, may you be happy
Hamara hai kya jeyai na jeyai
Me, Its not important that I live, or not

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
No one saw as the heart broke

Kitne bhi taray tootay ho gaana kabhi andhiyara
No matter how many stars break, it will not be dark
Aasman par bahut hain taray
In the sky, many are the stars
Dil tha ek hamara, dil tha ek hamara
mine was just the one heart
Toot na jai quen dil usaka
How will his heart not break
Saathi Jisaka chuut gaya
He whose love was separated
Dekhaana kisine dil toot gaya
No one saw as the heart broke

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
No one saw as the heart broke

Chand ko apna daav hai pyara
The moon holds dear its blemishes
Chuupi hai koyee kahani
Some tale is hidden behind this
Mai Bhi Chupai hoon seenay may
I too have concealed in my bossom
Kisse ki ek nishaani Kisse ki ek nishaani
someone's keepsake
Kaise Mana loon aanso apnay
How to persuade my tears
Baag hi Mujhasay roothe gaya
Luck is estranged from me
Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya
No one saw as the heart broke

Tara Totay Duniya Dekhe
A star breaks and the world witnesses it
(Dekhaana kissine dil toot gaya )2
No one saw as the heart broke

LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

RHAPSODY IN MELODY

By Dr Rajiv Viyakar

He was the voice of the masses.

He had less than 1,000 songs to his credit, but over 900 hits. This, during a career spanning over 35 years from Nirdosh (1941) to his untimely death in 1976.

From Raj Kapoor and Manoj Kumar to Dilip Kumar, Jeetendra and Rajesh Khanna, Mukesh was the voice for them all.

It was Mukeshchand Mathur's 'soulful' melancholy that captured the audience's attention as he sang qawwalis, ghazals, devotionals, intricate raga-based songs and comic numbers.

Though his own luck was extremely capricious, Mukesh was, ironically, a lucky mascot for various music directors, stars, even cosingers and lyricists.

To date, it is his exquisite voice and inimitable rendition that kept many a vintage film alive.

On his 25th death anniversary on August 27, rediff.com lists 25 films that spun the Mukesh magic:

Aabroo: This non-starcast (Deepak Kumar and Vimi), 1969 success has long since faded into obscurity.

But the Mukesh solo, Jinhein hum bhoolna chahe woh aksar yaad aate hai, written by G L Rawal and composed by Sonik-Omi lingers on.

Mukesh Anjaan raahen: Indeewar's revolutionary thoughts, Mujhe nahin poonchni tumse beeti baatein/ Kaise bhi guzaari ho tumne apni raatein were characteristic of the master's 'psychotherapeutic' poetry.

The elegant Kalyanji-Anandji-Mukesh wonder lives on in connoisseurs' hearts, as the film's failure never gave it its due at that time.

Beti: Sonik-Omi's Yeh kya kiya re duniyawale remains the only 'living' song from a score that was, at the time of its release, a hit like the film.

It was one of the last great songs of Naushad's pet writer, Shakeel Badayuni.

Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti: Satish Bhatia, composer of this V Shantaram Jeetendra-Mumtaz flop, never scored for a film again, but just two Mukesh numbers, Haan maine pyar kiya (with Suman) and the stunning Yeh kaun chitrakaar hai, are musical treasures.

Chetna: At the time of its 1971 release, three aspects made it a sensation: B R Ishara's bold theme, Rehana Sultan's legs and the Mukesh solo Main to har mod par tujhko doonga sadaa.

Today, the first two have long been forgotten; the song lives on.

Chhalia: This R D Burman flop is noteworthy for Zindagi mein aap aaye, the only Vani Jairam (of Bole re papiharaa fame) hit duet. And it was Mukesh who sang with her.

Darinda: This weird thriller sank without a trace. But Mukesh cemented his long association with K-A by his terrific swansong: Chahe aaj mujhe napasand karo.

Mukesh and Lata Mangeskar Didi: Colleague Sudha Malhotra whimsically turned composer with this song, little knowing then that this duet with Mukesh Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao would be all that was remembered.

Diwana: Shanker Jaikishan scored fabulous music for this 1967 Raj Kapoor-Saira Banu disaster, and this Mukesh-monopolised score endures to this day in re-releases with songs like Diwana mujhko log kahe, Tumhari bhi jai jai, Hum to jaate apne gaon, Taaron se pyaare and Ae sanam jisne tujhe.

Hum Hindustani: Usha Khanna's music in Rani Mukherji's father's flop film lives on in its two Mukesh gems: the hit titletrack, Chhodo kal ki baatein and the exquisite Aaj subah nahin hone wali.

Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaye: Thumak thumak mat chalo is the only memory of this obscure 1963 Mehmood film with music by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Lal Bungla: One of Mukesh's famous trilogy of "chand" songs in the Sixties (the others being from Phool Bane Angarey and Himalay Ki God Mein) Chand ko kya maaloom is the crowning glory of this B-grade Usha Khanna hit -- and all that survives from it today.

Milap: Kayi sadiyon se, composed by Brij Bhushan for this reincarnation flop in 1973, remains Shatrughan Sinha's first-ever hit song, and his most enduring one.

Mukesh My Love: The film was shot in Africa, and faced rough weather at the BO, but Woh tere pyar ka gham and Zikra hota hai, the two Mukesh solos composed by the small-timer Daan Singh for Shashi Kapoor, remain alive more than three decades later.

Nadaan: Navin Nischol's song of unrequited love, Jeevan bhar dhoonda jisko emerged as the sole survivor of this Deven Verma production that crashed in 1971.

It was Jaikishan's last hit with the golden voice.

Parvarish: The Raj Kapoor-Mala Sinha film was a hit, and so were some other songs at the time.

But today, the name Parvarish either means a 1977 Manmohan Desai blockbuster or the Mukesh evergreen, Aansoo bhari hai yeh jeevan ki raahen from the Kapoor film.

Pehli Nazar: Dil jaltaa hai to jalne de was the first song that made people take notice of Mukesh, way back in 1945.

Pushpanjali: The 1969 Kishore Sahu flop had this Laxmikant Pyarelal-Anand Bakshi gem which would fit our sentiments about Mukesh's absence today: Duniya se jaanewale jaane chale jaate hain kahaan.

Rani Rupmati: Freedom fighter turned music composer S N Tripathi's haunting Aa laut ke aaja mere meet remains one of Mukesh's prime hits.

Sabak: Usha Khanna churned out yet another Mukesh evergreen in this small film starring Shatrughan Sinha.

Originally filmed with a supporting artiste, Barkhaa rani zaraa jamke barso so hooked the Shotgun that he insisted that it be removed from the released film and reshot with his heroine-cum-future wife Poonam Chandiramani!

Saheli: The Kalyanji-Anandji nugget, Jis dil mein basaa tha pyar tera is the only thing one remembers of the film.

Raj Kapoor with Mukesh Sambandh: O P Nayyar composed less than six songs for Mukesh in his life. Still Chal akela ranks among Mukesh's best.

Sangeet Samrat Tansen: Classicist S N Tripathi made Mukesh scale high notes in Jhoomti chali hawa. Most people, however, couldn't care less about the film.

Yahudi: This was a period film, but the Mukesh solo, Yeh mera diwanapan hai adapted by Shanker Jaikishan from a Greek tune is a song forever.

Dilip Kumar, it is said, agreed to do this film only after hearing this recorded song.

Zindagi Aur Toofan: The film came and went faster than a meteor, but left a beautiful remnant -- Ek hasrat thi ke aanchal ka mujhe pyar mile/ Maine manzil ko talaasha mujhe bazaar mile

Movie Name: Pehli Nazar
Singer: Mukesh
Music Director: Anil Biswas
Lyrics: Aah Sitapuri

Dil Jalataa Hai To Jalane De
The hearts smolders, so let it
Aa.Nsuu Na Bahaa Fariyaad Na Kar
Don't shed tears, don't plead
Dil Jalataa Hai To Jalane De
The hearts smolders, so let it

Tu Paradaa Nashii.N Ka Aashiq Hai
The one you love observes the veil
Yuu.N Naam\-E\-Vafaa Barabaad Na Kar
Don't ruin the tradition of fidelity
Dil Jalataa Hai To Jalane De
The hearts smolders, so let it

Maasuum Najar Ke Tiir Chalaa
Shoot the arrows of innocent gaze
Bismil* Ko Bismil Aur Banaa
Make the smitten one more so
Ab Sharm\-O\-Hayaa Ke Parade Me.N
Behind the veil of shyness and modesty, now
Yuu.N Chhup Chhup Ke Bedaad Na Kar
hiding, don't frustrate me like this
Dil Jalataa Hai To Jalane De
The hearts smolders, so let it

Ham Aas Lagaaye Baithe Hai.N
I sit here waiting, yearning
Tum Vadaa Karake Bhuul Gaye
You gave your promise and forgot
Ya Suurat Aake Dikhaa Jaao
Either come let me see your face
Ya Kaha Do Hamako Yaad Na Kar
Or tell me not to remember you
Dil Jalataa Hai, Dil Jalataa Hai, Dil Jalataa Hai ..
The hearts smolders, the hearts smolders, the hearts smolders

* When butchering animals in Islamic manner the incantation begins with "Bism Allah - In the name of Allah". This has coined the word "Bismal", refering to the one on whom Bism Allah has been invoked and conjurs up a picture of someone mortally stricken.

Can you please translate this. What a brilliant combination: O. P. Nayyar, the genius composer, and Mukesh. No wonder this song is so superb and will always be considered a classic.

lyrics provided by our friend oldie_fan..

O MERI HAMRAHI
Film: The Right and the Wrong (1973)
Singer: Mukesh
Music: Vedpal Varma

shaam dhali aur nikale hai taare
aaja re chand aaja nadiya kinare
tujh bin akele jee na sakenge
ro ro marenge nain hamare

o mere humrahi kyoon tera man gabhraye
ab yeh saath na chhutega chhahe jag bairi ho jaye
jeevan ke andhiyaron mein main deepak aur tu jyoti
yug yug se hain sang hamara, ho seep mein jaise moti
o mere humrahi..........

jab tak sansaar rahega mera tujh se pyaar rahega
har janam mein mujhko tera yoon hi intezaar rahega
o mere humrahi........

ulfat ka saath na chhute, yoon hi saaz bajate rehna
awaaz mein meri hardum awaaz milate rahena
o mere humrahi

"It's a very good song; heard many years ago. If you know a place where I can get this song, please let me know."Quote : oldie_fan
