Nehru, in the interest of historical accuracy, Benschop was charged for treason but was never convicted. He languished in jail five years without facing trial. When Benschop was set free some legal minds asked how could President Jagdeo pardon him if he wasn't convicted.

Having said that, it's for the citizens of Georgetown to decide whether they want Mark Benschop as Mayor. I'm neutral on this one.

Benschop was tried but the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. Eleven jurors voted for a not guilty verdict while one juror held out with a guilty vote. He was ordered to be retried by Jagdeo's Kangaroo Court but was pardoned before he could face another trial.

Guyana is for Guyanese of all races and anyone can serve in any capacity of government if they so chose. If Mark Benschop can win the people's support, then he should be the Mayor of G/T. Guyana does not belong to the PPP, APNU or AFC. It belong to the people of every colors.

AFC had some serious backing as well and they still did not carry enough seats to form a Government.

I ask Bendover Soapboy, what is MB's qualifications to be mayor? Does he have any managerial experience? As far as I know, the only managerial experience he accumulated over the years was leading mobs on riots in mo fiah slow fiah exercises. Let us examine the qualities that a good mayor should possess.

• A mayor should have good communication skills, especially the ability to listen. Because a characteristic of a good mayor is selling the vision of the future to others, he must have excellent communications skills to persuade others above him to move in the direction he desires; he must convince others to join him in his vision.

Will to Make Tough Decisions

• Some politicians will not address issues that they know will make them unpopular. This should not be the case with a good mayor. He should not be scared to tackle issues affecting the community, regardless of how difficult or unpopular these issues may be.
