PPP wants PNC to explain refusal to form National Govt in 1960’s

PPP General Secretary, Clement Rohee (right)

[www.inewsguyana.com]– The governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is calling on the People’s National Congress (PNC) to explain why it refused to enter into a government of national unity with the PPP during the 1960’s and in the 1970’s.

The PPP in a statement issued on March 03 stated that it was the PNC, now APNU that “spurned all reasonable attempts by the PPP during the 1960s and during the entire period of authoritarian to forge a Government of national Unity on the spurious ground that the PNC was the ‘Bolshevik’ or ‘majority’ party and the PPP the ‘Menchevik’ or ‘minority’ party and therefore could not negotiate on equal terms.”

“Merely talking about a government of national unity but doing everything possible to undermine and stand in the way of unity and reconciliation will not sell…” the Party stated.

The governing Party continues to lambaste the coalition of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC).

“The fact of the matter is that the APNU is only trying to create a facade of national unity by cosmetic means when in actuality it is simply a case of old wine in new bottle,” the PPP statement noted.

The statement further noted, “This attempt by APNU to reconstruct its image will not succeed especially when seen against past experiences of the PNC on the question of a national unity government.”

What a bunch of jackasses. The PPP clowns are asking about the 60's when they refused to grant the opposition any cabinet positions and denied them a chance to draft the national budget. Who cares about 50 years ago when you refused to work with the opposition today.

Forbes Burnham, believed that he will rule for life and the PNC, with it focus on rigging the elections, will be in power for eternity.

However, that ended in 1992 when the international observers group under former president Jimmy Carter brought an end to the PNC practices with fair and free elections for the first time.

Conscience, PNC doesn't have to explain a thing. The PPP needs to stop looking in the rearview mirror. The PNC is looking forward.

Hey dankey...1960 was long before I was born. I know of the events for historical context, but I really don't care jackass when it comes to my contemporary political position. I will not blame Moses, David, Gerhard, Khemraj, Raphael, etc, for that. Now...kindly go jump off a high building!

Easy.  Janet Jagan was a card carrying communist who harbored intense hatred for Afro Guyanese.

Imagine the state that Guyana would have been in today if Cheddi directly replaced Burnham and drive Guyana right into the cesspit that Cuba is in today.  There wouldn't have been the Hoyte reforms and Guyana would have remained a state dominated economy.

This is really desperation on the part of the PPP.

Correct, and it is also known that while the proposed coalition of the PNC and AFC will contest the elections, PPP/C will again emerge as the political organisation to govern Guyana.
