UN calls for credible elections results that reflect the will of the people

0

See below statement from Ms. Mikiko Tanaka, United Nations Resident Coordinator:

We are following with concern the latest developments in Guyana.

We take note of the statements issued by international observers and Ambassadors accredited in Georgetown raising concerns regarding lack of compliance with national legal procedures and the need to resume the tabulation of results for Region 4.

We encourage the relevant Guyanese authorities to finalize the process in a manner which leaves no doubts as to the credibility of the results that reflect the will of the Guyanese people.

The United Nations calls upon all sides to act with calm, patience and in full respect of human rights, the rule of law and Guyana’s constitutional order.

Police fire teargas at PPP supporters at Lusignan as sporadic election-related disturbances break out in Berbice, Demerara; PPP appeals for calm

Police firing teargas at protesters at Lusignan Village, East Coast Demerara.

Police Friday afternoon fired teargas and broke up a protest at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.

The police action followed the burning of a utility pole that was placed across the Lusignan Public Road.

The decision by the police to disperse the crowd came after top leaders of the People’s Progressive (PPP)- Frank Anthony and Anil Nandlall- appealed to their supporters to go home.

The Railway Embankment Road was the only thoroughfare.

About five supporters of A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) were seen moving towards the PPP supporters at Lusignan but eventually they retreated.

Lusignan was not the only place that PPP supporters blocked to protest the outcome of results from the March 2,2020 general elections based on unverified results from Region 4, authorities said.

Riot squad police were on standby in a 36-seater bus, but they did not take any action until the situation became uncontrollable shortly after 4 PM.

At Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice , residents there blocked roads with objects, but at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, supporters burned tires.

At Tain Village, Corentyne, more than 1,000 persons blocked the road.

Across on the West Coast Demerara, authorities there reported that there were several road blockages at Canal Number 1, Demerara Harbour Bridge Junction, Cornelia Ida, and Bell West. At Canal Number 2, residents there burned tires. However, authorities said the protesters were gradually dispersing on their own.

Police in β€˜A’ Division, Superintendent Azore said there was no political unrest there. β€œThere is no disturbance or uprising in our division,” he said.

PPP supporters in sporadic protest in Demerara and Berbice.

Meanwhile the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) appealed to its supporters to be calm, even as its calls for properly tabulated and verified results in Region Four according to the law were attracting support from the United States, Britain, Canada, and the European Union.

β€œThe People’s Progressive Party (PPP) calls on all of our supporters to remain calm and act in a peaceful manner during this period. While we understand the hurt, frustration and fear about electoral fraud being perpetuated against the Guyanese people, we have the solidarity of the international community,” the PPP said.

International observers from the Carter Centre, Organisation of American States, European Union, and the Commonwealth have jointly called for the verification of the results in keeping with the law before the full results of the general and regional elections are declared.

The US, Britain, Canada and the European Union have warned President David Granger that if he is sworn in as President based on the results, his administration would be deemed unconstitutional.

Separately, the United States State Department issued very strong words against the Guyanese authorities who are responsible for the electoral stalemate.

The PPP  appealed to its supporters not to go on the streets and breach the law. β€œThe PPP urges our supporters to ensure that none of their actions are in contradiction with the laws of Guyana; stay home and await further guidance from the Party,” the PPP said.

Who could have believe PPPC supporters will rise to this cause, it was overbearing and long over due. this will send a strong message for the future. They squat illegally in office since Dec18-2018.... and is barefaced to rig the election in the presence of local and international observers.

Respect the constitution and don’t mess with us.

I saw the Scrooge Cathy Hudge, making a statement calling for peace but express disappointment with the protesters as the world is watching.
This  B!tch has no shame.

I am not sure if Granger was diagnosed with Cancer or that was part of the early election drama. How could he take Chemo and still have hair on his head? How could he recover in such a short time?  I have treated people with Chemo and knows how it works and with the type he claims he has he should have lost his voice.

It does add up Dond. It seems that everyone associated with the Coalition falls sick whenever they are faced with making any decisions. You have Granger then. Then there was Lowenfield having a heart attack. Then there was ole man Patto getting sick and more recently you have first Mingo and then Singh. Dem Russians proppa fvcking with the Coalition idiots.
