Guyana is no longer a failed state.
Since the PPP took over the seat of Government, There are more people working for a living. Old Roads are being resurfaced and new ones built. More affordable housing schemes are being constructed in every corner of the country. Businesses are prospering. Guyana is getting more beautiful.

Know this, Mits, I've had discrimination from some descendants of low caste Indos because of my mixed ethnicity, though predominantly Indo, even those of my half brothers and sisters whose mother is/was a descendant of low caste Indians! (The bitch even tried to get me to fk her!) I suppose that allowed them to stifle their consciences when they divvyed.up.what our father left when he died, excluding me as I was.in Canada, and despite the laws of Guyana! I have done nothing about that because I've been absorbed in a problem partly related to my hip problem. I've solved this.problem and am only waiting to take my issue with the government's criminals to court and get that out of my system! I've never hated any Indos because of what my relations did (I've never had.any problems with descendants of high caste Indos)! The best of them as far as I'm concerned, died as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was not one for book larnin but he spoke his mind and didn't give a sh*t.what others thought of him as long as he thought he had done.what was right and appropriate! The worst just escaped a prison sentence for.lack of evidence in the Robb Street fire, which cost the lives of a father and his.2.daughters (I thought he asked.for it with his idea of squatters' rights), of a few years ago! I wouldn't put it past him to be guilty because of his hate for black man which was caused.by what.he had to endure from some of them! That includes the raping of his wife by a Burnt ham stooge! A very lovely Muslim girl, who except for being.married to him, would have encouraged my attentions!
Despite all I've endured, I've never harbored ill feelings for any Indos, or any group, as a matter of fact! Why should I, my greedy relatives are not representative of all Indos!

Flashback to PNC rule:
2.The âFeed, House and Clothe the Nationâ Development Plan remained a catchword without producing substance.
3. The third Development Plan (1978-81) increased the debt burden accompanied by little or no industrialization.
4. Hoyte claimed in 1981 that the economy was disastrous, and the New Nation (the PNCâs mouthpiece) noted that the economy was âtottering on the brink of collapse.
5. Rigged elections continued to be the norm.
6.The militarization of Guyana was enhanced with about one military personnel for every 35 citizens.
7. The womenâs section of the PNC proposed a one-party state for Guyana in 1971.
8. Norman Semple of the Guyana Public Service Association talked about a crisis of authorityâ induced by âa blurring of the line of authority between political and administrative decision making, creating a problem inââĶthe efficiency of the administrative machinery of the stateâĶâ.
9. Decline in the East Indian student population at the University of Guyana possibly correlated with the operations of the National Service.
10. Perceptions that the acquisition of significant jobs is related to holding a PNC membership card abounded.
To be fair you would have to take into consideration the phony oil crisis which the US and the Petro.states engineered to take care of those countries touting Socialism as the wave of the future! If they wanted oil for their nascent industries they had to borrow from the banks that were awash.with Petro dollars! They.were encouraged to borrow as they had commodities to sell and payback the loans! Unfortunately, they found the commodities prices had become.less than the cost of producing! More rigging! More borrowing! That's why I.insist that an oil refinery be built or Guyana will be fked again! Jagdeo trusts Exxon which knows far more about O & G than he could ever learn!
I recall people here and in the US grumbling about the long lines at the gas pumps! So, what does the riggers do?.Claim they had just found a new source of oil in friendly.Vemezuela! But I remembered something about this so I checked! Old fing.news being recycled with the help of the media! Trust no one in the developed countries! They.fight for survival, too! As some British lord said, "A nation has no friends! Only allies!"
Lord Palmerston..."...no friends only permanent interests."
@cain posted:Lord Palmerston..."...no friends only permanent interests."
Since you have forced my lazy self to look it up : the actual words by H J Temple were "We have no eternal allies and we have.no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow." - The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, revised 4th ed.

When my big sis left Guyana for NYC in 1970, my parents hired a bus and car for family and friends to accompany her to the airport. We had a huge farewell the day before with lots of cooking up. At the airport, migrating ladies piled lots of hats on their heads and I wondered what were they hiding there, money? The good old days.

So true, Tota! I've never been back! Parents, 2 elder sisters dead, others involved in a conspiracy to divest me of my share of what our father left, so no compelling reason for that! Besides some dalits will always.be dogs!
I remember, for me it was 1967. Was a good move, the whole world became accessible at that specific moment. Thank God.

So true. I don't think the new structure allows this type of viewing. I remember going by the Red Water Creek and had a picnic and swim after a relative migrated in 1969. Guyana is not a safe place to go back to spend one's retirement years.

Who caused the separation? The Government of the day banned foodstuff, medicines, toys, clothing, and spare parts. The People had to join long lines for food. They had to join the PNC in order to get a job. Of course, it breaks everybody's heart not only yours. National Service was the last straw. Crimes were centrally directed by the PNC and Indians were terrorized by the "black clothes police". The police raided the houses of all Indian visitors to Guyana.

No! You are wrong there. let me explain. After the exodus of the Indians from Guyana, those who were left behind were very anxious and craved to join their families abroad and enjoyed the good life. They were sponsored by their family members which looked like they are running. Those who went to NA also craved for their loved ones to join them.
People are always leaving. Blacks also left when the PNC was in Government. My contention was, what caused the exodus of the Indians from Guyana in the first place?

BS, let me explain. Many of us would never have left Guyana if there was no disturbances, racial conflict, crime etc regardless who lived in other countries. Guyana as we all know could be a paradise if it is run properly Yes, blacks did leave on occount of the PNC messing up this also occured/occurs during PPP time in office with blacks, browns, whites, yellows, greens etc.
Guyana is obviously not to the standards we expect whether it is run by the PPP or PNC. So don't make it sound as though PNC is the sole reason now.

Cheddi was the primary catalyst to cause Indians to send their wealth offshore and send their children abroad.
Ramaji, tell us why more people left under the PPP regime than under the PNC?
Now that the PPP is back, tell us why you did not bother to move back when they were in power for 23 years and what is stopping you now?

Look at this fooking charlatan! The exodus of Indians from Guyana started under the PPP because of your HERO Jagan's communism. And those that didn't leave started shipping their wealth offshore instead of reinvesting in what they saw as an increasingly HOSTILE economic environment for their businesses UNDER JAGAN!
When the PPP came to power in 1992 Indians who left under Burnham did NOT remigrate during the PPP's 23 year reign because the country REMAINED fked up! Furthermore you sycophantic arse hole, Indians CONTINUED to flee Guyana in droves under Jagdeo's rule.

I remember Timheri. There was a lounge where you could sit by the glass and watch your family or friends walk to the plane, waving and crying as they went. Then the stairs were removed, the doors closed and the plane taxied to the far end and came back at high speed and lifted off right in front of that lounge area.
Then the wailing started.
It was a sad place. Lots of tears from the parking lot all the way in. I had a cousin I played with as a child until we were 7 and she left for London. Never saw her again in life.

We do meet again, Tota! In the 'sweet bye 'n bye'! Which is all around us! The world of energy or spirit! People have long been afraid of the spirit world because of the Jewish myth of the creation! Dust to dust and all that nonsense! Who was this 'us' this phony Creator referred to ( Genesis 3: 22) that man has become as one of? Where is the spirit that moved Adam's body? He forgot about that one, huh? No wonder! He was afraid.of the ' familiar spirits' (djinni.in Islam, baccoo in Guyana) the Jews brought with.them from India! Poor frightened alien! He had no control over that kind of energy! We, spirits or intangible living energies, NEVER die! Whatever is, was, and will always BE! The only frightening aspect of dying is thinking about.it! Think! If people weren't afraid of dying.and did whatever was right, then the world would be a happier.place! Think! More than half of the world's population is Paul's 'Christians' or Muslim combined, all believing.in this Jewish BS while the Jews get all they can while alive because you can't get anything more.once you're.dead along with your body! Think and free yourself of BS, sucker!

You describe that scene superbly. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I still remember when I was leaving seeing a neighbour of mine working on the road at Timerhi. I asked the driver to stop so I could say goodbye. We had palyed together and I may have beaten him up a few times. When we got out of the car he asked who was leaving. My mother motioned towards me. He seemed disappointed. I have always wondered if he was disappointed that I was leaving or that I was allowed to leave.

@Totaram posted:You describe that scene superbly.

It would have been. From his body language I knew he was unhappy about me leaving and it wasn't because he was going to miss me. Wonder where he is--I'll have to ask my people.

Fyi, I could have been a Messiah about 60 years ago but.I ran from it! A history of Georgetownâs cemeteries
After evicting the Dutch, it was the British in 1781 who chose the site of what was later to become this countryâs capital, although they did little to translate their vision into reality. The French displaced them in 1782, and they were the ones who first started constructing the infrastructure for a new town which they were to call La Nouvelle Ville. They were not here for long, however, and when the Dutch returned in 1784, they renamed it Stabroek after the President of the Dutch West India Company, who rejoiced in the grandiloquent title of Nicolas Geelvinck, Lord of Castricum, Backum and Stabroek.
While the living were taken into consideration in the very first years of the townâs existence, it is not really known what arrangements were introduced before 1785 to cater for ordinary members of the public, free or enslaved, who had died. We can be more confident, however, about where the white population of status was laid to rest. Stabroek was surrounded by plantations, the front lands of which eventually came to accommodate a number of suburbs which in 1812 were combined with Stabroek to form Georgetown. Each of these estates had its own burial ground where the planters, their friends, anyone of note as well as a very few African servants, either enslaved or free, were interred.
I've been informed that the.Le Repentir cemetery was the estate.of.a Frenchman who donated it as a place of.burial in.memory of the.brother he.had.killed!
Say, when.are you. going to donate.anything in memory.of the brother you.'loved'.to death, cain? Hahahahahaha...

@Former Member posted:..did you ever hear from him or see him again?
Up to the point of his death. He became religious-in the occult. Before his passing, I had to pass Rosignol to get to Albion. The Ferry took a long time to get boarded. The first get together is about four hours, we(all school friends, word gets around real quick) settle in at a cake shop, the lady mix up some sardines and blait bread, along with Heinekin beers. My next visit is like a whole day, with a pot of cook-up going. When were kids, Walter and I with some other guys always made a cook-up the first week after school closes. Muffy Dam had all kinds of fruit tree at the Backdam, Mr. Mac claims he own dem all. Dat nevah bothered us, we tek wah ever we want. He fite up bout it. And for about 10 years.
Walter, had eyes for a red-skin gurl in the village. suh the man join the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The gurl's grandmother din care for him, so he had a fall out wid the chuch. He went to Surinmae.
After a few months, he returned to Guyana. Soon after, he passed away. I knew he went to Suriname. Not until my next visit to Guyana I learn't of his passing. Three yeas had passed.
The car stopped by his yard. I went to the gate. Mildred, his sister answered to my calling out. Looking out the window, she rushed down the stairs in tears, "Lionel! Walter dead now a long time."
I remembered my recent dreams of him, plungng in the Sidelines, picking water nuts and pitching marbles and taggah.
Soon, the other friends gathered, I wasn't too sad, but I missed him not being there. But, like the dreams had told me about his passing. We had drinks that day to Walter Nathaniel Arthur.
The boys told me, he returned home, not of sound mind. Seems he was with the juka people of Suriname-ju ju spirits are some badass spirits according to my Nigerian pastor.

In the 70s many Guyanese went to Montreal with student visas. When we visited my brother, we met his many Corentyne friends and they gave us a grand tour. I still remember St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal.

Every summer we had picnics up there in the summer and would stay late to listen to bands by the pond. The Racoons were very tame and friendly.

I have visited St. Joseph's many times. Some believe that it was built by a miracle and that miracles still happen there. Do you remember seeing a pile of crutches in the church?

Last time I was there there was some kind of drumming (I think its called Tam Tam). I sat on a bench enjoying the music and observing the sale of ganja. Apparently the police turn a blind eye to the smoking of the stuff but not to the sale of it.

Brother Andre was the guy who caused those crutches to be left there. Their owners used them to walk into church. There is also a small room in there with a small bed which was used by him, he was quite a guy.
I have seen some pilgrim climb those darn concrete stairs ( 283 total ) up to the chapel on their knees.
