Hey Cain, good luck with your surgery. You should get some jello, soup and Ensure ready so you can have something to eat after.

Dem wild turkeys got to be hard.....wonder if they are edible?

My 14 yr old and 12 yr old grandsons are spending a week with us.....I forgot how much food growing boys want/need (my son is now 39 yrs old).  Full breakfast, lunch, dinner and 5 snacks in between......and at 10pm every night before they go to bed they want tea and arrowroot biscuits and if I let them they will eat a 'tube' each of the biscuits.  I buy all kinds of food stuff for them in bulk from Costco.

hiya Deed

Turkey with shredded zuke? That’s definitely on my must do list! I have so much zucchinis that I am constantly asking people to take them.
Made fritters, noodles, cakes, stew, curry etc

wow, still can’t imagine your grandsons are so grown

lol at the amount of food they eat…growing  boys gotto eat

…………..

on the menu today, paratha roti with garden baji, fry aloo n maybe some corn on cob

W

My daughter is getting lots and lots of zucchini also and is passing on most of them to me.

I have made curry zucchini/chicken, zucchini noodles sauteed with garlic in olive oil for exactly 3 minutes (so yummy), shredded and added to turkey burgers and chicken meat balls, and so far 3 sets of zucchini bread/cake.....with chocolate chips as it's the only way the grands will eat it.

Plan to make zucchini Parmesan next.

Villagebelle

The funny thing with zucchini......I bought 6 plants in the spring and decided that too many for my lil garden so I gave 3 to my daughter and I planted 3.

Harvest so far....

My daughter - too many to count

Me - zero, zilch, nada, none!!!!

not sure what happened with my garden.

same with cucumbers.....I got 2.

my daughter.....too many to count.

Villagebelle

Deed, that’s very strange about the zucchinis and cukes…

I also have lots of acorn squashes which my son loves to roast with brown sugar, cinnamon n black pepper

Have a few butternut on vine, 2 pumpkins, some bora, butter bean- white and purple, bigan, peppers, tomatoes, herbs etc

we have grilled zukes with olive oil, black pepper and oregano

made Parmesan zuc n eggplant in same pan

of course, I ain’t Guyanese if I never curry zuc or stew it up😹

W

Cous cous is on my late night snack. VB, those turkeys are hunted around here, deer is also hunted, every now and again we hear shots. They come on the property here because no one goes after them, the hunting boundary stops across the road from us.

Well Wildflower, tomorrow we'll be picking up some fish cakes, cassava pone and the family grabbing some chicken curry and roti from a Guyanese lady who goes to the Lindsay market during summer. It's not bad, takes the edge off when my mouth start feeling like ole time foods.

From my garden, picked karaila and finger baigan. We had kaloungie stuffed with fish and shrimp and made 3 to 4 slits on the baigan to make them look like fingers, dipped them in basan mix and fried them. Goes great with Baco Noir. Cheers.

Mitwah

You know, I have not made kalounji in more than 7 yrs. some things I only cooked because my beloved enjoyed it. I no longer put steamed karaila in fish curry nor curry chunks of it with shrimps.

I got some very big karaila, from my one vine, which I promptly gave to my mom. Since she lives alone, she will cook it and share with me and my cousin. I will keep the vine to make tea.

Today I fried up some tomato with chives, basil n tiny pc Trinidad scorpion pepper then cracked few eggs and stir in …with roti for brunch.

I have some ghost, scorpion, chilli, jalapeño, one bird pepper and one habanero plants growing. Got lots of chilli, 2 ghost and 1 scorpion so far. The plants have lots and I am hoping they will start to ripen. Not sure when to pick jalapeño.

will make some veggie fry rice with mushrooms n bora so I have for tomorrow also will make fry bigan with tomatoes n potatoes all from garden

W

Bitter melon is a great plant to grow in your backyard garden as no critters like it so it will produce really well undisturbed. It is a zero waste plant meaning every part of it can be consumed and it has many health benefits.

Mitwah

I know about the benefits…my hubby loved it. I do eat it but I don’t cook it. I also tried to convince my gay neighbours to try it😃 especially since one is in his 70s and one not yet 60! They didn’t like it. They do like Mauby when mom makes.

for the first time I have purple n white butter beans….mom will cook

W

Anybody cooking duck curry soon? No? Well then since I am feeling to eat it I must cook it soon!

Saturday I made dhal, rice, crispy fry masala smelts, smoke herring choka and steamed kale. Still eating it😳

W

Just finished a bowl of salfish stew an a boiled egg with garlic buttered Nann. First time in about eight years I had an egg and it went down ok so far.

I have to admit that I do enjoy blue crab curry or soup but have never cleaned it. I guess I will only eat king crab when my ppl dem stop visiting. There’s a Diana seafood place about 2 blocks from me, a few of usually buy a box of king crabs…yummy  I’ve made Cajun style crayfish and crab legs which the whole fam enjoy.

You gotta be stocking up on blue butter just in case.

Never heard of blue butter. I googled it and seems like it’s something I can use on my K9 paws. The old boy gets itchy paws and sometimes he gnaws on them. He gets severe allergies every august🙁   The younger girl is ok so far.

Never had marmite on pizza but used to like anchovies

I also like sliced eggplant with skin on my pizza with garlic and pesto, fresh tomatoes, jalapeños, red onions, pine and chicken

I do enjoy tomatoes in every way including soup but for some reason don’t like red sauce on pizza

we made a nice batch of pesto when the basil was in full bloom ( by we I mean I grew it and the tenants downstairs made it😁 i.e. my son and his gf) They also made lots of red currant jam and jalapeño spread using my garden produce…mmmmm

sun is less, garden callin me

W

I grew some butter beans for the first time. First few times I picked and gave to my mother. Yesterday I picked and cooked it with lots of tomatoes…had it with roti. I don’t think I ate butter beans since I left Guyana

Today I had boil n fry black eye beans for dinner

I’ve never cooked cauliflower any other way than plain. Will definitely try it with ground turkey… I am guessing you cooked the meat with all the seasoning then added cauliflower n tomatoes?

I went to grocery stores from 8-10, came home had breaky and started to prep for cooking…just ate n had to rest my feet. In half hr I have to catch up on some sewing… (niece getting married very soon)

W

@Wildflower

I much prefer the early morning shopping also. Hopefully avoid the crowds and traffic.....even though in my lil town there is not much traffic if I use back roads.  There is a beautiful drive through a conservation area, only thing is the road is gravel.....and dem rich people living off of it don't want no smooth road to get plenty traffic.

Two oldest grandson sleeping over and for dinner, requested pasta and sauce made with my now famous chicken meat balls (made with shredded zucchini).

Also have zucchini muffins with vanilla ice cream for their dessert!

Mom called and told them she is coming for them tomorrow and I can hear them sweet-talking her into letting them stay until Sunday.

So now I have to figure out what to cook for them for the next 4 days!!

Villagebelle

I made eggless macaroni pie last night so I had some for lunch. My granddaughter enjoys all noodles and rice dishes

Will have dhal and rice with fry ochro and some steamed kale n poi from garden.

I noticed that not much beans on vines except for the broad purple  and the white half moon shape beans

Garden is winding down….getting a cupful raspberries almost daily and few strawberries on vines for 2nd crop

Today....they asked for canned Salmon (cooked with onion/garlic/tomatoes) and oil roti!!

Villagebelle

VB, I like canned salmon with lots of onions, hot pepper and tomatoes too but recently someone told me that they don’t put tomatoes sometimes but they crack eggs over it. I tried it and enjoyed it too…well I love to cook and I love food so I enjoy most things😋😋

W

Yesterday I visited a friend for dinner… we had peas n rice with bbq chicken and Manchurian chicken n jasmine rice. I brought home some peas n rice and it for lunch. It’s sheer left overs I am eating ( fridge food)

Anyone seen Siggy?

W

On the menu, lamb biryan, naan with butter chicken. Nope, I did not cook! I spent all day looking for something I put somewhere but don’t know where and sadly, I am exhausted and the thing is still not found.

so my son got food at Babu’s and he shared😋

Omg Irfon, if I could even remember anything it would help. The only place left for  me to look is the garbage bin…and I pray that I did not throw it in the recycle bin caz that was emptied last Thursday. If it was mine I may have given up.

old brain😔

W

Lol @ garbaging stuff. My son threw stuff out from the garage and when I was setting up the new washer and dryer I looked for it then he to,d me it was there for so many yrs and we did not use so he threw out. Luckily my hoarder neighbour had taken all the stuff and when I was telling him that my son threw out my stuff he went and got it😁

W

Cooking today's rainy-day dinner......

boil'n'fry - eddoe, half-ripe plantain, American and West Indian sweet-potatoes.  Stewed salt fish!! (no dumplins today)

Very rarily I cook this, so we are going to sit down and enjoy every single bite!!

Villagebelle

Mmmmm@VB😋 that’s one of my fav 😋 although it must have deep fried boiled duff. I also like it with fish curry and a big pot of sweetened tea.

Today I cooked boiled black beans then fry up some onion, garlic, hot pepper, thyme  n turmeric before I stir in the beans….will have it for breakfast tomorrow. I had doubles for lunch.

yesterday I went out and got pc fresh salmon caz I saw Irfon say he had salmon….I pan fried it with dill, garlic, butter, milk, lemon juice n habanero…with wild rice cooked in fresh tomatoes and basil

W

Dunno if this is considered adding substance to the thread .....I forgot what I had for dinner, dah was so long ago.

Cain, chk google for all the foods that aid memory and have that at every meal😁

today I ate, dhal, rice, pumpkin, bajee,  channa curry, potato curry, katahar curry, puri and sweet rice….even brought home puri and katahar curry😋

W

Yesterday we did a harvest….picked 7 of the 21 butternuts, 9 acorn, 2 pumpkins, about 10 lbs hot pepper, few lbs beans and  4 five gallon buckets of tomato plus all the bigan on the two plants I have ( enough to cook and share with my ‘tenants’  and neighbours.
so I cooked 1/4 of the beans with salt fish n tomatoes in turmeric n  masala….fry up the bigan with  🍅 n 🥔 / had a bit of both with rice for lunch

W

Lunch - made cheese and tomato sandwich for hubby with a salad. For me - my usual salad with shredded Gouda cheese.

W

Got some homegrown, fresh, organic sieme from a Trini friend

Curried it with eddoes, shrimp and a lil bit coconut milk......it was soooooo good.

Don't usually get sieme in my area so it was a treat.

Villagebelle

VB I cannot remember the last time I had Sieme curry…that’s nice food.

I grew some whitish beans…I googled it and it showed up as moon bean and also grew some flat purple beans which I cut up and cooked together with salt fish and tomatoes…it kinda reminded me of seime

W

Dinner today.....

Chicken drumsticks seasoned and cooked in air fryer. (my son gave me air-fryer for mother's day and I thought I would never use it.  well, I am using it all the time.  It is ideal to cook for 2 people.

Sides to go with it - string beans cooked with garlic and red onions.  Potatoes and cauliflower mashed with plain yogurt.

Villagebelle

I have not cooked since last week when I made bakes with salt fish n tomatoes😳

During the week I had steak n burgers from elk, moose, bison and deer….tried something wild and different every day…had poutine with elk gravy….plus some junk food.  I also saw all those animals except bison.
