Well..all these yrs n squirrels never ever bit our tomatoes..but this yr they r doing so..

same for sqaush..been planting for 4 yrs n they never bit..

this yr the bit the sqaush clean off the vine..n bit the root yesterday..the dug out 1 root since we planted

last yr i planted karailla for the 1st timen it had abt 15 sml ones like 2-3 ins..they bit all off the vine

they even bit the weird looking pepper i have in buckets

whts going on with these squirrels?? R they starving this yr..??

@Lynn, put some bread out to attract birds. The birds would attack the squirrels when they try to get the bread.

Bread makes birds crap all over, birdseed is the way to go.

My neighbour used to feed the pigeons so every day they would all hang out on the lines outside for Uncle Joe. After feeding, our driveways and cars would be painted by their squirts. One day my daughter told him to take his feeding at the back yard to quit messing the place up, they had to stop hanging out their laundry after that.

the 2 seim plants..i got 1 picking for 2 persons’ meal..n saved some for seeds..

they not biting the grape tomatoes..trees laden with those..been giving away to co workers

Catch and release works; take them 3 to 5 miles away. I don't have a problem these past few years.

Perhaps you have rats chewing on the tomatoes. Squirrels normally don't chew on tomatoes. Rats and mice go after the flowers for the nectar.

I once had a heck of a time trying to catch a squirrel to remove a donut wrapper that was stuck to his face while he tried to munch down.

My daughter purchased some rigid plastic mesh which has plastic barbs to keep the critters at bay when placed on the soil. I will ask her where she got it from, might be good for next season.

No ..even my italian neighbors saying squirrels exiting her tomatoesn zucchini..

they bit the big green tomatoes..

never in history since we havebeen here ..25 yrs in this yard..

tomatoes grew without any issues ..

all the sqUSH LAST YR,..none were bitten..the karaila were bitten off the vine..not the karaila itself..

this time they bit off a big squash..cut it iff the vine..n it had 4 smaller ones ..they took those..n then they BIT the root..so nowitis drying up

my other italian friend who lived abt 3mins drive from u said they r doing same for her zucchini..n they never ate her zucchini before …

@Lynn, it seems like you need to invest in an Animal Deterrent Device. My cousin got a Solar powered Ulrasonic pest repeller. It works on squirrels, skunks, cats, rats and racoons. His motion sensor is 18kHz. He got it from Amazon . You can check Canadian Tyre or the other local HW stores. The fake owls don't work.  I catch and release. Got my traps from CT years ago. The dollar store. Another idea is get some dog hair wrap it in panty hose type of material, (needs to be able to let the scent through)this sometimes works.

Never. But it keeps appearing in my searches. I think it's Chinese. I prefer the box stores. I don't even shop Amazon. I saw an ad for Fake Snakes to keep squirrels away. So far my catch and release is working.

i have bought a few times from them, its hit and miss. some things were decent quality while others not worth it. you have to be careful and really read all the descriptions

2 plants survived..1 picked once but  i left abt 10 for seeds …

@Lynn, picked every two days. Crop was very bountiful. 10 for seeds is good. Actually it's more than you need. Tomatoes hardly have flowers. I clipped the tops and not allowing any more blooming and removed shoots with no flowers and trimmed out some leaves to allow the air to pass thru. This will prevent rusting of the leaves. Removal of the leaves and shoots will result in bigger fruits since the extra food will go to them now. Lots of cucumbers and the karaila now bearing. I saw some flowers on the bora this morning. Bigan and peppers hardly have fruits. Seems to be a bad year.

So I have lots of green tomatoes, since I had to remove the trees due to the onset of leaf rust. To ripen them I washed them with Dawn detergent and baking soda to kill any bacteria and put them in cardboard boxes and exposed them to the sun. Worked for me over the years but have to check  daily for the ones going bad. I collect the ripe ones and put them away in freezer bags.

@Lynn, am not planting baigan next year. Got  12 of these black beauties for $10 on sale and we made delicious Baba Ganoush for storage.

I may do the same for the Roma and San Marzano tomatoes.

Yeah we stopped because squirrels eat them out

where did u get the sale,..r they all good. I dontlike the bulk things esp in boxes as some r not good

i got 5 squash from.  Plant..gave away 2 n enjoyed the 3 (cooked stew on Sat with 1/2 of the last one)

the 2handfuls of seim i got from 2 potted plants, i saved 10 for seeds n gave the rest to my cuz as it was just enough for 2 person
