The eternally lovely Nargis glows in the moonlight in Awaara (1951).

“Dum Bhar Jo Udhar” is a Mukesh-Lata duet sung on a small boat in the middle of the night. Shailendra’s lyrics embody a theme common in Hindi films, which emphasizes the shyness of the woman and the boldness of the man. Both man and woman address the only other witness to their tryst–the beautiful moon above. However, the woman begs the moon to look away and not make her feel shy, while the man eagerly urges the moon to shine upon him and witness their love blossom. The importance of moon imagery in Urdu-Hindi poetry is legend–most often taking the form of a feminine metaphor that epitomizes beauty. In this case, however, the playful moon evokes the male gaze as a trusty ally to the hero and a source of embarrassment to the heroine. It’s so adorable I could squirm.

Baharo Phool Barsao Mera Mehboob Aaya Hai. One of the best songs even to this day. Cant get tired of listening to it. No wonder it topped the list. This is a funny old time song taken from a film, "Chhoti Si Mulaqat"

a Party Song, 1967. Sung by VJ Mala and Uttam Kumar. My young daughter could not stop dancing and laughing at the lovely song last night when it came up while watching the film. The film was about a girl who was forced to get married when she was around 12. She was rescued but had a rough life becuz everyone thought that she was married in front of "Agni" meaning fire and taking rounds around it and taking marriage vows. Interesting. When she fell in love with a young man, she thought it was not right since she was already married when she was a child, so she requested him to leave her, and went back to her village to find that boy who she was married to, to our astonishment guess what happens next? Like who she finally became life partners with??

Thanks Bai, but I do not know what happened to the mouse when we try to right click to get the song it simply will not work any more. It no longer shows "Copy", may be it is time to get a new lap top. It is strange when we try to copy articles then we are able to but not the songs.

The movie proved memorable for its award-winning performances by the lead actors and memorable music by S. D. Burman. Time Magazine listed it at Number Four on its list of Best Bollywood Classics.

He was so good at his trade, his voice resonated with emotions, raw emotions that would hold one spellbound like the ancient mariner would, weaving a tale that must be told, and after then, that impact of that story would remain for a lifetime. Such was the golden voice of the Legendary Master, like a magician he would hold one fixated whils't he weaves his enchanting spell with accuracy at the beholders, who can only be dumbstruck with awe, such emotions and sadness would truly soothes the listeners and create that impact to last a lifetime. The man that was endowed with that "bardaan" was Mukesh Chand Mathur, known as Mukesh.

A heart breaking one reflecting the parting of lovers. The lyrics are great,

Whenever duets are being sung and listened to, this would certainly comes to mind.

Lata when she was a teenager, Mukesh very young, the movie was a mega hit during its days, "Barsaat" evoked so much memories whenever it is mentioned; the songs even today could be regarded as hummable hits.
The soothing voices of Mukesh and Lata enacted by Raj Kapoor and Nargis blended so superbly in this tune, it can be reffered to as one of the best duets ever, a Classic or truly a gem of yesteryear. How can we not include this one?

I know that someone will chide me for including this very sad one, but I guess that it is serving its purpose. Enjoy a Barsaat Selection of 1949:

The music of Barsaat became famous upon the film's release in 1949. The film was the debut for music directors Shankar Jaikishan and established their careers. The famous playback singer Lata Mangeshkar famously sang for both Nargis and Nimmi in Barsaat.

The soundtrack was listed by Planet Bollywood at number 1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks. Rakesh Budhu of Planet Bollywood gave 10 stars stating, "Barsaat is ideally one of Hindi cinema’s best soundtracks
