PNC/AFC scraping far below the barrel bottom to still see if there is just a small hint.
These guys were so sure of the corruption and crimes for more than five years and nearly a year later they are still haplessly meandering. Now Goolsarran who they paid all that money to can't find anything conclusive but feel happy enough to "suppose" that the PPP did something. What a shame for someone from my profession after doing a full audit only able to make a supposition.

Owner of the gas station, Joel Edmond, said two others were subsequently caught and are in police custody.
Edmond told the Guyana Chronicle he was at home at about 03:15hrs when he received a call informing him that bandits had broken into the facility.
According to him, video footage shows three bandits coming through the nearby street and walking into the gas station. One of the bandits stood guard outside while two others broke into the outlet and held the three employees at gunpoint.
âAfter harassing my staff, they robbed them of what they had, which included around $5,000, and then they got into the cash register and took about $10,000. They then attempted to break our major safe, to no avail,â said Edmond.
The three employees were taken to the police station to assist with the investigation.
This is not the first time the gas station has been robbed. According to Edmond, there have been several other robberies, but this has been the most daring of them all.
âI will try to boost my security measures so as to ensure the safety of my employees and my outlet,â he said.

Burnt to death â Renowned woman rice farmer, husband perish after bandits set house alight
April 18, 2016
By Alva Solomon
AN EAST BANK Essequibo woman who was recognized as a trail blazer in the rice industry was burnt to death, along with her husband, on Sunday night in a fire which was allegedly set by bandits who had attacked their home.Dead is Bibi Jamila Munir, 69, and her husband Mohammed Munir, called Dak, 75, Lot 17, Good Hope Public Road, East Bank Essequibo. The couple was known to have been involved in rice farming for decades. They were the parents of five (5) children, including three adopted children, most of whom reside overseas.
According to a police release, the charred remains of the Munirs were found among the debris after the fire was extinguished.
According to reports, the Munirs were attacked by intruders at about 23:00hrs on Sunday. The bandits gained entry through the back of the coupleâs home, relatives noted. The house is heavily grilled, and persons at the scene told this newspaper that the intruders set the house ablaze after the Munirs had locked themselves in a back room.
The Munirs were heard screaming for help, and soon after gunshots rang out in the house. Persons in the area tried desperately to gain entry to the burning house, but to no avail.
Police investigators were at the scene on Monday morning, while scores of relatives and friends gathered outside the gutted house.
According to a relative, on Sunday night, he was at home â a few doors away â when he was told that bandits had attacked the elderly couple. He said that when he arrived at the scene, the elderly woman was screaming for help while the house was engulfed in flames.
âShe call out and said we must move the vehicles from underneath the house,â he said. He said that a large quantity of paddy which was stored in a room beneath the premises was destroyed by the fire.
The man noted that the woman had telephoned several persons while she and her husband had been under attack, including a popular West Demerara businessman who was reportedly the last person the woman had spoken to.
Persons at the scene noted that the room in which the couple met their demise is connected to adjoining bedrooms by two doors, and as such, they could not understand why the couple could not escape the blaze.
âMe try to go in, but the smoke and the flames was too much,â a relative noted. The man said that the couple rarely kept money on the premises, even though the persons they employed would have been paid over the weekend.
The Munirs were expected to harvest approximately 50 acres of rice in the coming weeks.
They are well known on the West Coast of Demerara, as well as in the Muslim community. Persons in the area noted that the Munirs had reportedly donated selflessly to the Good Hope Masjid.
General Secretary of the Rice Producers Association (RPA), Dharamkumar Seeraj, told the Guyana Chronicle that the coupleâs death came as a shock to the rice farming fraternity. He said the two people were always seen together at rice forums.
In 2004, former Minister of Agriculture, the late Satyadeow âSashâ Sawh, had recognized Mrs Munirâs work in the rice industry and on the EBE by presenting her with the Award of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB).
In 2007, the RPA had paid tribute to Mrs Munir when the body acknowledged her contribution as a businesswoman to the rice industry by featuring her in the quarterly edition of the magazine, âThe Farmerâ.
Seeraj said that he knew Mrs Munir since 1989, when he joined the rice industry, and according to him, the woman was actively involved in the development of rice at the time. Being a male-dominated industry, he said, the woman was always involved in managing the affairs of her rice fields.
He said she had also played a key role in the toll milling infrastructure which was set up at Vergenoegen on the EBE. âShe would go there and overlook the operations,â Seeraj said.
He said Mrs Munir was also very involved in the functions of the RPA. âItâs a very big shock; Mrs Munir was full of life, always working,â Seeraj said, lamenting the brutal manner in which the Munirs had met their demise.
Police investigations in the matter are ongoing.

A BOTCHED robbery yesterday claimed the life of young Wakenaam businessman Mahendra Persaud, called âAmarâ, of Good Success, Wakenaam, and left a bandit injured on the busy roadway at Robb and Alexander Streets in the Bourda ward of Georgetown.
The 26-year-old dead businessman was on one of his regular trips to the city to buy stocks for the familyâs business on the Essequibo Island. This newspaper understands that the family operates a general store which is well known on the island. A resident from Wakenaan revealed that Persaud got married only last month.
Police are now on the hunt for two young men who were on a CG motorcycle and attempted to rob the young man, who had just exited a Canter truck and was making his way to a store. During the attempted robbery, Persaud was shot to the chest, and he slumped on the roadway. A car which was chasing the gunman ran over his body, exacerbating his already grave injuries.
The young man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police later confirmed that a man who was seen attempting to change the number plate of the vehicle that had run over Persaud has been arrested. The driver of the vehicle has however not yet been arrested, but the vehicle has been detained by the police.
The scene was one of chaos as the sound of the gunshots had many scampering to safety whlst the gunman ran up the street, firing shots wildly to clear his path.
He subsequently jumped on a waiting motorcycle and made good his escape.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that an armed public spirited citizen also discharged multiple rounds at the bandit, hitting him in the fusilade.
Initial investigations indicate that the businessman may have been followed by the bandits to the location. Owen Paton, an employee who was with Persaud at the time, related what transpired when the vehicle they were in stopped at a paint store.
âWe just stopped because we was to drop off a bucket paint for them to mix. As soon as he [Persaud] jump out the canter and throw his bag on his back is duh: the man roll up and try to grabble he bag, but they didnât get it,â Paton told this newspaper.
He explained that Persaud would visit Georgetown often to purchase goods to be shipped to Wakenaam. Paton said he has been working with the businessman for the past five years.
Meanwhile, a police report has noted that at approximately 10:45hrs, Persaud was with his driver in a vehicle at Alexander and Regent Streets, Georgetown when he was attacked by a man armed with a gun, who demanded a bag with money that he had in his possession as he exited the vehicle. He put up a resistance and a struggle ensued, during which he was shot.
And the man was recently married. A young Indian life cut short by rabid PNC bandits.
Recently-wed store owner gunned down by bandits
-body run over by car
A young store owner from the island of Wakenaam on the Essequibo River lost his life after he was shot during a daring daylight robbery and then run over by a passing motorcar at Robb and Alexander Streets, Georgetown yesterday.
Twenty six-year-old Mahendra Persaud, of Lot 22 Good Success, was pronounced dead
on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital, minutes after he was picked up from the roadway.
The police in a statement yesterday said that about 10:45hrs, Persaud was with his driver in a vehicle when he was attacked by a man armed with a firearm. The man demanded a bag with money that Persaud had in his possession.
According to the police, Persaud put up resistance and a struggle ensued during which he was shot to the neck. He subsequently fell on the roadway and in the process, was run over by motor vehicle, PVV 3157.
This newspaper was told by eyewitnesses that a licenced firearm holder who was in proximity, exchanged gunshots with the gunman, who subsequently managed to escape on a waiting Honda CG motorcycle ridden by an accomplice. It is believed that the bandit was shot in the process and fled leaving the bag with cash behind.
Investigators are convinced that Persaud was trailed by the bandit and his accomplice, who waited for the right opportunity to strike.
A police source, informed this publication that Persaud had previously visited two stores and was about to visit a third when he was confronted by the bandit. He had in his possession approximately $700,000, the source revealed.
The bag with the money was reportedly recovered by the police.
The police, after examining CCTV footage, said that they were able to identify the bandit and are making every effort to have him arrested.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car that ran over Persaud, took him to the hospital and later vanished, leaving the vehicle in the hospital compound. It was reported that he subsequently sent another man along with a mechanic to switch the licence plates on the vehicle. The two men were caught in the act and were arrested.
While they were handcuffed and sat at the back of a police pickup, one of them told media operatives that he was unaware of the incident. He continued that he was just parked next to the mechanic when the police approached him and said that he was involved in the death of someone.
Persaudâs aunt, who was at the hospital, told media operatives that her nephew, who got married just over a month ago, would usually come to the city to buy goods to take back to the island where he and her father ran a general store together. She stated that there were several attempts made in the past, but never to this extent.
When this publication contacted Persaudâs wife Parvena by telephone yesterday, she recalled that her husband left the Essequibo island at around 07:00 hrs for his usual trip to the city to purchase stocks for his business.
With him was his driver and trusted friend. The woman said that sometime around 11:00 hrs she received a telephone call, informing her that her husband was shot. She was advised to prepare herself to travel to the Georgetown Hospital where they had taken her husband.
But as she was about to leave her house she received the dreaded call that her husband had succumbed and she should no longer travel.
âItâs only about two months now since we got marriedâĶ..I have to try,â Parvena Persaud cried.
She said that her husbandâs driver is still in shock after seeing his close friend gunned down and he could not have done anything to help him.
âHe said that by the time he got out of the car, they had already shot my husband and a car ran over him; he could do nothing,â Parvena Persaud told this newspaper.
A post mortem examination is to be performed on Persaudâs body today.
Looks like Glen Lall got a new enemy as PNC bandits lash back at Kaiteur employees.
Bandits rob, terrorise family of Kaieteur News staffer
â $1M reward posted for arrest of perpetrators
Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall has posted a $1M reward for information that can lead to the arrest of three bandits, who terrorised and robbed the family of one of his staffers, after invading their Little Diamond, East Bank
Demerara home at around 03.00 hrs yesterday.
Victorine Narine and her two daughters, aged 26 and 18, along with her mother, were bound and placed to lie on the floor, while the robbers, armed with two handguns and a cutlass, ransacked their home.
The elder daughter was also struck in the face with a handgun.
The intruders, who also feasted on snacks and beverages, eventually escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery.
Mrs. Narineâs husband, who is a Kaieteur News employee, was not at home when the attack occurred.
The robbers gained entry by prising out a grill from a window in the bottom flat of the two-storey property.
Victorine Narine said she was asleep in her bedroom when she was awakened by her eldest daughterâs screams. Mrs. Narine said that she immediately realised that intruders were in the house.
âI came out (of the bedroom) hollering, because I knew what had happened,â she said.
On running into the hallway, she was confronted by a masked man with a cutlass. Two other men with handguns held her eldest daughter and mother. They also brought the 18-year-old daughter from her bedroom.
She said that the robbers immediately ordered them to hand over their cell phones, and also disabled the landline. They then began demanding money and jewellery, while repeatedly asking about the whereabouts of âthe man for the house.â
One of the robbers struck the eldest girl with his firearm. They then ordered the women, including the 18-year-old, to lie on the floor.
The men spent about an hour ransacking the rooms, and also eating, before escaping with money, jewellery, the victimsâ cell phones and other valuables.
Detectives later lifted a number of fingerprints from the scene, but up to press time, had made no arrests.
In the wake of the robbery, Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall said that he was putting up a $1M reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
He can be contacted on telephone number 624-6456, and assured that the identities of those providing information would be kept confidential.
For a small country Guyana sure has a lot of crime under the PNC/AFC.
Missing bridesmaidâs body discovered in trench with throat slit
Mere days after leaving home to collect a package coming from her sonâs father in Mahdia,
23-year-old Simone Hackettâs partially decomposed body was yesterday discovered in a trench parallel to the University of Guyana Road, at Fourth Field, Cummings Lodge.
The discovery was a grim confirmation of her relativesâ worst fears, after the woman went missing on Saturday night.
Hackettâs body was found by two schoolboys who were passing by the area and were overwhelmed by a putrid stench. Curiosity got the better of them and upon checking the corner of the trench they made the gruesome discovery.
Her body bore marks of violence, indicating a clear case of foul play.
According to reports, Hackettâs throat was slit and there were what appeared to be two stab wounds to the back and neck.
She was clad in the same outfit she had left home with and her jewellery was intact, leading relatives to speculate even more that robbery was not the motive, but that it was cold-blooded murder.
Commander of the police âCâ Division Marlon Chapman told this newspaper that the case is being treated strictly as a murder.
It is suspected that Hackett was killed elsewhere and her killer(s) dumped the body in the location that it was discovered.
Investigators are now trying to locate one of the dead womanâs male former acquaintances, in the hope of obtaining some vital information surrounding her death.
Kaieteur News had reported that the now dead Hackett was missing since Saturday night. She had left her âCâ Field, Sophia home between 20:00 and 20:30 hrs to collect a package sent from Mahdia by her âchild-fatherâ. According to the womanâs mother, she had received a phone call from her âchild-fatherâ at around 18:00h, instructing her to meet with one âDexterâ, an individual who was supposedly bringing the package from Mahdia.
Relatives told Kaieteur News that she left to meet âDexterâ at the Mahdia Bus Park, but the meeting place changed and instead she went to the Railway Embankment at UG Road. They last heard from her while she was waiting there.
Hackettâs mother had said that she last received a call from her daughter at 22:10 hrs, but her daughter wasnât saying anything and she heard background noises as though she was in a moving vehicle.
Hours later after she did not return home, relatives tried calling her cell phone continually, but kept getting voicemail.
Early Sunday morning, relatives went to the Turkeyen Police Station and lodged a report. They said that the Officer in charge after taking their report immediately sent out an all station message.
The search continued until yesterday when the discovery was made.
Upon arrival at the scene where the body was found, family members became hysterical and wails of anger filled the air.
Some of the dead womanâs relatives could be heard saying, âIs he do it! He gon pay for this!â These statements were allegedly in reference to the father of the dead womanâs toddler son. The womanâs stepmother collapsed at the scene and had to be revived; another relative made a desperate attempt to get to the body and had to be restrained by a police rank.
Kaieteur News understands that as recently as one week ago, Hackettâs âchild-fatherâ, who is reportedly in Mahdia, had issued threats of killing her over custody of their son who recently turned three years old.
Relatives of the murdered woman also stated the manâs mother and sister knew of the threats, and they were also alleged to have issued threats to Hackett.
Kaieteur News understands that investigators at Turkeyen had contacted their counterparts at Mahdia on Sunday, with a view to locating Hackettâs child father, after she went missing.
According to reports, the police at Mahdia quickly detained the man and questioned him, but he reportedly denied knowing about her whereabouts.
He reportedly gave all assurances that he wouldnât do anything to harm Simone Hackett, claiming that the last contact he had with her was at 18:00 hrs on Saturday, and that the bearer of the package was a friend he knew from a previous job in the gold mines.
He stated that the friend, âDexterâ, hails from Pomeroon, Essequibo, and that after he called Hackett to pick up the package, he tried calling âDexterâ, but the individualâs cell phone was turned off.
Police subsequently released him, as Hackett had not been officially missing for more than 72 hours.
The now dead woman was scheduled to be the maid of honour at her sisterâs wedding on Sunday. The wedding went on nevertheless, but under a cloud of despair and uncertainty.
Yesterday Hackettâs distraught father Gerald Hackett lamented the fact that he had just âgiven awayâ one of his daughters and now he will be burying another.
âI care fuh me children. I always say let they bury me before I bury them. Was a wedding fuss, is a dead now,â he cried.
He too believes that his daughterâs child-father could shed some light on how she died.
âIs he caused her to go out to pick up the package, so I think the police need to look at the child-father; thatâs my take on it,â Gerald Hackett told members of the media.
Three held for cocaine in plywood
April 22, 2016
A LARGE quantity of cocaine was intercepted yesterday when members of the drug enforcement arm of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) unearthed the substance during the examination of a consignment of plywood destined for the United States. In a statement, the GRA said that members of its Drug Enforcement and Goods Examination Units along with the Port Control Unit (PCU) were in the process of examining a consignment of 5/8 inch plywood destined for Florida in the United States of America (USA), when upon closer examination anomalies were detected within the consignment. Further examination and testing revealed a quantity of cocaine concealed between the approximately 320 sheets of plywood.
As such, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were informed and officials of both agencies arrived on the scene to provide support and carry out further investigations. The plywoodâs consignee was listed as a business located on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway with the consignmentâs prospective recipient being a hardware establishment in Florida. GRA officials had become even more suspicious of the contents of the consignment based on the suspicious behaviour displayed by the consigneeâs representatives during the examination process. Three persons have since been detained as the investigation continues.
âChild fatherâ confesses to âMaid of Honourâ killing
â murder stemmed from jealousy, custody fight
He reportedly plotted the killing carefully, even travelling back to the interior to give himself an alibi, but this was not enough to stop detectives from implicating Clevon Hamilton to the brutal murder of his reputed wife, Simone Hackett.
Police yesterday revealed that Hamilton, who was detained on Wednesday at Mahdia, has admitted to slitting Hamiltonâs throat and dumping her remains in a trench at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara on Saturday night.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect, known as âQuarterâ, has said that the killing stemmed from jealousy and because of Hackettâs refusal to give him custody of their son.
Police yesterday escorted the alleged killer back to the scene, where he pointed out the area where the murder occurred.
Detectives have taken statements from a bus driver and conductor, who had transported the suspect from Mahdia to Georgetown on Saturday.
âWe also have phone records, which we will be using against him to further strengthen our case,â Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said. Police are also seeking to contact a taxi driver who took Hamilton to and from the East Coast of Demerara.
Simone Hackettâs fate was sealed on Saturday, when she allegedly received a call from Hamilton, who said he was sending out a package, containing cash and gold, from Mahdia.
Hamilton allegedly instructed her to collect the âpackageâ from an associate of his called âDexter.â
Relatives told Kaieteur News that she left to meet âDexterâ at the Mahdia Bus Park, but the meeting place changed and instead she went to the Railway Embankment at UG Road. They last heard from her while she was waiting there.
During his interrogation yesterday, Hamilton reportedly told detectives that he travelled out of Mahdia
by bus on Saturday morning. He then stayed at a hotel and when night fell, he contacted a taxi driver, who took him to Cummings Lodge. After asking the driver to wait, Hamilton, who had a cutlass in a haversack, then met Simone Hackett.
The suspect allegedly said that the two had a heated row over custody of their son. He was also jealous and angry over some of the things she was doing, and âcouldnât take it any longer.â
The suspect allegedly stated that he sneaked up behind his âchild mother,â then choked his victim before inflicting the fatal wounds.
Leaving the murder weapon near the body, Hamilton allegedly then returned to Georgetown in the same taxi. He then returned to Mahdia.
Hackettâs mother had said that she last received a call from her daughter at 22:10 hrs, but her daughter wasnât saying anything and she heard background noises as though the daughter was in a moving vehicle.
Relatives tried calling her cell phone continually, but kept getting voicemail.
They were particularly concerned, since she was scheduled to be the Maid of Honour at her sisterâs wedding on Sunday. It was also the day that her son was celebrating his third birthday.
The relatives managed to contact Clevon Hamilton in the interior, and they questioned him about Hackettâs whereabouts.
Hamilton then went to the Mahdia Police Station where he professed innocence about Hackettâs fate. He was released after providing the police with a statement.
On Tuesday, two boys on their way to school spotted Hackettâs partially decomposed body in a trench at Fourth Field Cummings Lodge. Her throat was slit and she had been stabbed three times to the back and neck. She was clad in the same outfit she had left home with and her jewellery was intact. Police retrieved a black-handled cutlass from near the body.
On Wednesday, police apprehended Hamilton at Mahdia and escorted him back to Georgetown.
Relatives had alleged that a week prior to her death, Simone Hackett had received threats to her life over the continuing child custody dispute.
Police are to seek legal advice on the case today.
Bulletproof vest saves disarmed cop during arrest attempt
An officer attached to the Guyana Police Force received injuries following a confrontation with an alleged bandit.
According to Commander of âBâ Division, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam, police ranks were conducting routine patrols in the Rose Hall, Corentyne area when the suspect, Keon Thompson commonly known as âMad Dawg,â of Canje, was proceeding on the public road, and began acting in a suspicious manner.
The ranks then attempted to search the man who began resisting arrest. A scuffled ensued between the alleged bandit and one Constable Clarkson, and the suspect managed to disarm the rank of his .38 revolver and began firing several shots. One of the shots reportedly struck the Constable, but luckily he was protected by his bulletproof vest.
The man then made good his escape into the Reef backlands area on foot. Unconfirmed reports revealed that Thompson is wanted for questioning in connection with a number of robberies in the Corentyne area.
Investigations are currently ongoing.
Drug addict kills 75-yr-old mom
Residents of Good Faith, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, are trying to come to grips with the gruesome murder last night of a 75-year-old woman, allegedly by her 53-year-old son.
Cecelia Madray was discovered lying on her blood-covered floor with a wound to the head at around 20:00 hours, by members of the areaâs Community Policing Group (CPG). Her son, who is said to be a drug addict, was also in the house and he was promptly taken into custody.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the CPG members were contacted after neighbours heard a commotion in Madrayâs house.
When the CPG members went to the house and called out for Madrayâs son, they got no answer.
They were left with no other alternative but to break the door to get in. Once in, they made the shocking discovery of the elderly woman lying on the floor covered by a mosquito net.
Kaieteur News understands that when questioned, the dead womanâs son told the CPG members that she fell on the steps on Tuesday. However, the CPG members found no trace of blood on the stairs to support the manâs story. They observed that the womanâs body was still a bit fresh.
While news of Madrayâs death, allegedly at the hands of her son, was shocking, it came as no surprise to many, since she had suffered repeated physical and sexual abuse.
According to a police source, Madrayâs son was arrested and spent four days in the Mahaicony Police Station lock-ups after it was alleged that he had raped his mother. However, the source said that the woman refused to give the police a statement so that he could be charged and placed before the court.
Gunmen drink milk, coconut water during one-hour home invasion
Six gunmen early yesterday stormed the home of a popular rice farmer/miller at Toevlugt, West Bank Demerara. At the end of an almost hour-long ordeal, the masked invaders, who were armed with three guns and three knives, escaped on foot with six laptops, eight cell phones, gold, diamonds, televisions, medical instruments and two firearms.
The robbery occurred around 02:00 hrs and the bandits used the heavy rain to their advantage as they broke one of the windows at the home and then ripped open the grillwork.
The victim, Deo Rupee said that the ordeal has left him and his family traumatized, but he is thankful that the men made no attempt to harm anyone.
âWhen I came out of my room, they greeted me with guns and knives. The first thing they said to me was that they wanted my guns and I told them that I will give them everything, but they canât hurt anyone,â Rupee said.
He explained that he gave the men his two weapons and then called out for his children and parents one at a time from their rooms.
âThey put us in the master bedroom and one of them with a gun was in the door. They were searching the house. They took everything that is valuable,â the man said.
The rice farmer said that the men took their time and thoroughly searched the property. âThey tumbled all the rooms and everywhere.â
Rupee said where he is living; he does not have any neighbours.
âI told them (the bandits) from the start that I will cooperate, I even told them that I had money in my pants pocket,â the man said.
âThese men had time. They were even drinking coconut water and milk while searching,â the rice farmer said. He added that the men locked their maidâs door from outside so that if she heard any strange sounds, the woman wouldnât be able to investigate.
The woman is residing in a structure adjacent to Rupeeâs home.
The rice farmerâs house does not have surveillance cameras, but the man is in the process of setting up such facilties.
According to the businessman, he has already supplied the names of two persons to the police whom he suspects were a part of the robbery.
Investigations are ongoing.

Man found dead two days after beaten for âhustlingâ neighbourâs daughter
The decomposed body of a 52-year-old man was fished out of a trench at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) yesterday, two days after he was beaten for âhustlingâ a neighbourâs daughter.
The dead man has been identified as Doodnauth Hariprasad, a father of five of Lot 45 Tuschen, West Coast Demerara (WCD). Hariprasadâs bloated body was found early yesterday by passersby.
A post mortem examination performed on the remains of the 52-year-old man revealed that he died from multiple injuries.
One of Hariprasadâs neighbours and his son were subsequently arrested after police received reports that the two persons were seen beating the victim on Wednesday after he (Hariprasad) had âhustledâ the neighbourâs daughter. That was the last time he was seen alive.
The dead manâs sister, Rosaline Bhim, said that her brother lived in Tuschen with their father. He would go at her home to collect food every morning.
According to the woman, Hariprasad went to her home early Wednesday to collect food. That was the last time she heard from him.
âOn Thursday morning, I waited on him to come and collect the food but he didnât come so I took a bus and I went in Tuschen. I ask my father what happened to (my brother) and he too said that he doesnât know,â the woman said.
She further added that her father had informed her that the 52-year-old man was involved in an argument with a neighbour and that he was beaten by the neighbour and his son. â(Her father) said that was the last time he saw (Hariprasad),â the woman added.
Bhim stated that yesterday morning she waited on her sibling, thinking that he would show up to collect food for himself and their father but he failed to show up again.
âHe does normally come around 06:00 (hrs) in the morning and when he didnât show up, I suspect that something was wrong so I took a bus again and I went to their home. While going, I hear they found a body at Zeelugt,â the woman said.
She explained that she asked someone to drop the food for her father and she went to the scene where the body was found. According to the woman, the body was submerged in the trench.
âWhen they pulled him out, I recognized the pants because he does wear my father pants. And then I identified him. They took him to the parlour and the PM showed that he was murdered,â the woman claimed.
Meanwhile, the dead manâs estranged wife, Annette Sukra, said that they separated 16 years ago because of his drinking habits.
âWhen he drink, he could really get you angry and he drinks a lot so maybe he said something to the girl and thatâs why he was beaten,â Sukra said.
Investigations are ongoing.

Alexander Street shootingâĶCar that ran over victim was part of robbery plot â Police Source
Motor vehicle, PVV 3157, which ran over businessman, Mahendra Persaud after he was shot, was part of the plot to rob the 27-year-old as he went about his routine shopping in the City.
This was revealed by a police source yesterday who continued that based on the CCTV footage that was examined; the vehicle was seen trailing the businessmanâs Canter along a particular route.
This, the source pointed out, was a clear indication that the car was part of surveillance. There was also a motorcycle involved in the plan. However, the pillion rider who allegedly did the shooting along with his accomplice, is yet to be arrested.
According to reports, Persaud who resided at Lot 22 Good Success, was shot some time around 10:45hrs on Tuesday morning by a lone gunman as he exited his Canter.
A struggle ensued resulting in Persaud receiving a single shot to the neck.
Another businessman, who was nearby, returned fire on the gunman who then fled the scene empty-handed with his accomplice on a motorcycle.
As Persaud fell to the ground, he was subsequently run over by the car. It was reported that the driver then put Persaud into the car and proceeded to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the car later vanished, leaving the vehicle in the hospital compound.
It was reported that he subsequently sent another man along with a mechanic to change the licence plates on the vehicle. The two men were caught in the act and were arrested.
This looks like a setup. Nothing happens in Guyana by accident.

Drug addict confesses to killing mother
A 53-year-old drug addict who was arrested for the murder of his mother, Celelia Madray, 75, of Good Faith, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara has since confessed to the heinous crime during interrogation on Friday.
The pensioner was on Thursday evening found lying in a pool of blood with a gash to her head and her body covered with a mosquito net. The woman was reportedly heard screaming on Monday evening by residents and was not seen since.
This led to members of the community to conclude that something was amiss and as such, they contacted the policing group in the area.
As members of the Community Policing Group went to enquire, several calls for the woman went unanswered; hence, they were forced to break the door to gain entry into the house. It was then they found the woman lying on the ground in a motionless state.
Her son, who is a drug addict, was at home at the time of the discovery and was taken into Police custody. However, the head of the Criminal Investigations Department told Guyana Times that during the murder suspectâs interrogation, he told ranks that he âsmoke upâ on Monday then went home.
He added that while at home and not in his right senses, he got into an argument with the now dead woman during which he picked up a chair and dealt the woman one blow to the head. The elderly woman, he told investigations, fell to the ground but he refused to assist or call for assistance, despite the woman crying for help.
Although the woman sustained the injury to the head, she was still alive but took her last breathe on Thursday evening, moments before the CPG members arrived at the house.
Meanwhile, this publication understands that the woman was frequently physically abused by her son. From reports received, he was previous arrested for allegedly raping the now dead woman who at that time did not want to pursue the matter and refused to give the Police a statement.
After the woman refused to give the statement, he was released but continued assaulting her. Residents in the neighbourhood noted that they were not too surprised at the manner in which the woman met her demise. Some accused her of âprotectingâ him whenever he did something wrong.
The man is expected to make his court appearance at the Mahaica Magistrateâs Court on Monday.

Ex-boyfriend charged for maid-of-honour murder after confession
By Staff on April 23, 2016
The man, Clevaughn Hamilton, called âQuarters,â appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates' Court on Friday and was not required to plea to the indictable charge that he murdered 24-year-old Simone Hackett and dumped her body in the Cummings Lodge trench.
The 30-year-old ex-boyfriend of the Sophia woman who was found murdered in a Cummings Lodge trench has been charged for the womanâs murder.
The man, Clevaughn Hamilton, called âQuarters,â appeared at the Sparendaam Magistratesâ Court on Friday and was not required to plea to the indictable charge that he murdered 24-year-old Simone Hackett and dumped her body in the Cummings Lodge trench.
The woman died from multiple stab and chop wounds about her body.
According to the Prosecutionâs case, the ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of the womanâs 2-year-old child, lured the woman from her Sophia home on the eve of her sisterâs wedding, after telling her that he had sent a package for their son with a man named âDexterâ.
The young woman should have been the maid-of-honour at her sisterâs wedding last Sunday but vanished after leaving the home. Her body was found on Tuesday morning.
The Police Prosecutor, David Goodridge, told the Court, that instead, the woman was met by her jealous former lover and brutally stabbed and chopped about her body and later dumped into the trench.
Police investigators zeroed in on the former boyfriend after phone records showed that his number called the womanâs number several times leading up to her death and while he claimed that he was in Mahdia, his cellphone was locked in to mobile towers in Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara.
Family members of the dead woman berated the murder accused as a âcowardâ as he made his way in and out of the courtroom. They also lashed out at his family members for attempting to cover up for him following the brutal murder.
Meanwhile, Police investigators are searching for another man, who they suspect, may have aided Hamilton after the murder.
Investigators have found the car that they believe was used to transport the womanâs dead body to the dumping spot. The car was found in Mahdia and according to Police sources, there were several visible blood stains on the inside of the car.
Police investigators believe that after murdering the woman and dumping her body, Hamilton travelled back to Mahdia in an effort to create an alibi that he was there and not in Georgetown.

Murder under PPP now solved
2008 cold case solvedâĶâHit manâ killed Essequibo businessman on relativeâs orders
-was promised $6M, house and land, but only paid $5,000
âYour relative send me to kill youâĶâ
Those were the last words that Essequibo businessman Habiboodean reportedly heard on February 15, 2008,
before a âhit-manâ brutally ended his life on the orders of a disgruntled woman who had coveted the old manâs assets.
Detectives had those chilling words repeated to them yesterday, while listening to the confession of a 28-year-old Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo resident, who allegedly committed the deed on a promise that he would receive â$6M, a house and landâ to kill Habiboodean.
But the plotters reportedly only gave him $5,000 and told him to âfâk offâ when he asked for the rest of his payment.
Habiboodean, of Ruby, East Bank Essequibo, died at a hospital after being badly beaten in his home on February 15, 2008. Relatives had said that the killers took nothing.
Police had charged the victimâs former employee, Terry Lewton, 38, of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, and Bibi Nazeela Habiboodean, now 50, of Ruby, East Bank Essequibo, for Mr. Habiboodeanâs murder, but those charges were discharged due to insufficient evidence.
But in a stroke of good fortune, police last week detained 28-year-old Linden Lewis, called âBullet,â and four others, for the murder of Mohamed Munir, 75, and his wife Bibi Jamila Munir, 69, who were burnt to death in their Good Hope, East bank Essequibo home.
It was while he was in custody that investigators learned that he might have more than a passing knowledge of Habiboodeanâs death.
Police said that while being interrogated on that case yesterday, Lewis admitted to killing Habiboodeen, while complaining that he had never received full payment for the job.
According to the suspectâs claims, it all began sometime in 2008, when a female relative of the elderly businessman complained that other relatives of Habiboodeen had received properties and other assets, while she had received nothing.
The relative reportedly stated that she wanted the old manâs fuel station, cash he had in a bank, and assets he had in Georgetown.
She reportedly then hired Lewis to kill Mr. Habiboodeen.
Five individuals, including Lewis, reportedly sat down at a Vergenoegen, hideout, East Bank Essequibo, to plan the old manâs death.
Lewis said that the plotters promised to pay him $6M, and provide him with âa house and land.â
On February 15, 2008, the relative reportedly helped Lewis to gain access to Mr. Habiboodeenâs house.
When the âhit-manâ entered, the elderly businessmanâs house he was sitting in a chair.
âWhat you doing here?â Mr. Habiboodeen reportedly asked the intruder.
Lewis reportedly replied: âââ (name given) send me to kill you.â He then reportedly struck the 76-year-old repeatedly. Mr. Habiboodeen later succumbed in a hospital.
But Lewis said that instead of giving him the â$6M, house and landâ they had promised, the plotters gave him $5,000 âto go into the bush.â
Lewis reportedly fled to the interior, where he remained for two years. It was during this time that police arrested and charged the victimâs former employee, Terry Lewton, and Bibi Nazeela Habiboodean for murder. They were subsequently discharged.
When Lewis returned from the interior in 2010, he approached the plotters and was told that the case had been âdismissed.â
But when the âhit manâ asked for his â$6M, house and land,â one of the plotters reportedly told him that all the money had been spent on lawyers. The plotter reportedly then told the âhit-manâ to âfâoff.â
Lewis said that he did not pursue the matter.
Police indicated yesterday that they will expand their investigation this week.
Long run ends âĶman confesses to 2012 killing of mother, sons
April 25, 2016
By Rabindra Rooplall
ALMOST four years after a 41-year-old businesswoman and her two young sons were murdered, a suspect has been apprehended by police over the weekend, and has confessed to committing the gruesome act.
Identified as a resident of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD), the man was once neighbour to the now dead woman.
In 2012, Jennifer Persaud, the owner of a liquor store and bar at Lot 67, Anna Catherina, WCD, and her sons Afridi Bacchus, six, and Jadon Persaud, 18 months, were discovered dead in their home.
She was a mother of six and her eldest daughter is now 25 years old.
Post-mortem examinations revealed that the woman was stabbed about her upper chest, lower neck, and upper arms about 10 times. Her six-year-old sonâs throat was slashed and his windpipe was severed, while the baby was stabbed to the left shoulder and the carotid artery was severed.
It is believed that a knife of long blade was used in the attack.
Investigators disclosed that the suspect was apprehended after his reputed wife visited the police station to make a domestic violence report against him. After making the report, she also expressed fear for her life, citing the fact that her lover had previously committed murder.
Having sparked the interest of the police during further questioning, she hinted that the detectives should interrogate him about the murder of a businesswoman and her two children that occurred in Anna Catherina.
Police acted on the information and apprehended the suspect, who, after being confronted with the allegation, eventually gave a detailed statement and tour of the home, explaining the sequence of events that led to the murder.
RELIEVED
In an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, the dead womanâs first cousin, Mark Jetto, who now controls the property, related that he is finally relieved to have some closure over the entire affair.
He expressed his desire for overdue justice for his murdered cousin, with whom he had had a sisterly relationship. Jetto was present when the police brought the suspect to the home to explain his actions leading up to the murder. He said the suspect was once Jennifer Persaudâs neighbour, and on the fatal night of Friday, September 21, 2012, he jumped the fence, entered her property and business premises from the rear entrance through a wooden back door that was forced open.
The suspect then made his way into the business premises, where he broke into a money container inside a room on the lower flat. He then ventured to the upper flat through an inside staircase.
âWhen the police bring this man upstairs and the inspector ask he is which room he killed the woman and children in, the man pointed to the room. Meh start to scream, âIn here bai!â is like ah lose my senses,â Jetto explained.
NEVER TAMPERED
Jetto, who has had the property under his control since his cousinâs death, had never tampered with the crime scene, leaving everything in the upper flat as they were since the murder occurred almost four years ago.
At the grisly scene, Jetto pointed to the blood-stained floor in the bedroom almost in tears. âMeh just come here one year now, nobody did anything to the place other than pigeons living inside, and I reopened a business.â
NOT ENOUGH
Reflecting what the suspect told the police, Jetto said: âHe tell the police he come to take some money from downstairs and didnât come fuh kill she. After he take the money from the box downstairs, it was too little money, so he decided to come up upstairs to see if he could get more money.â
Jetto continued: âAfter he come upstairs now and he pass Jennifer room, she jump up and she holler for he. He tell the police that he run to she and start stabbing she. She little son (Afridi Bacchus) wake up and scramble he foot, and he look down at the boy and slit his throat. She then fall back and reached onto the bed where her baby son was. He continued to attack her on the bed, stabbing wildly. This caused her baby who was on the bed to be stabbed. All three died that night.â
The relative further said he had loaned Jennifer Persaud a substantial amount of cash to construct the home and business, and the money was on the bed at the time of the killing. Jetto said the suspect, after fleeing the crime scene with the cash, decided to party lavishly.
He said at first he had suspected the stepfather of the children as the one who had committed the crime. âI had to apologise to the man because it was not him.â

A YARROWKABRA, Soesdyke-Linden Highway businessman was able to save his entire family from the negative effects of a bandit attack on his home on Sunday evening.Explaining the horrific incident to the Guyana Chronicle, the businessman said the ordeal began at about 20:00 hrs that evening, when he exited his bathroom and saw his family, whom he had left outside on the veranda, running back into the house.
According to him, it appeared as if they were being chased by someone who had subsequently fallen after tripping over a chair. âThe man ran behind my family and fell over a chair. After that, we got into a scuffle, and what appeared to be a gun fell out of his hand,â the businessman said.
In shock, he said, he reached for the gun, and in an act of self-defence, released just about three rounds at the bandit, hitting him and reportedly killing him on the spot.
Seven children, his wife, brother and another relative were in the house, and they were all left traumatized, given that this was the first time they had experienced something like this.
Asked how many people he believes had carried out the attack, the businessman said that to his knowledge, and based on what he had seen, the man he had shot had at least one accomplice lurking outside of the home. However, a relative who had seen the robbers said there were at least six of them.
After their colleague was shot, the robbers made good their escape.
The businessman has expressed fear for the safety of his family, since this was the first time an incident of this nature had occurred. His fear is exacerbated by the fact that he has resided in the area for almost 15 years.
He has had to send away his children because of fear that the bandits might make another attempt to rob his family.
Members of the small community are seemingly in a state of shock because, according to some of them, incidents like these rarely happen in the area.
A police report has said the dead bandit has been identified as 32-year-old Raphael Armstrong, known as âScarâ, of Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
The police explained that a scuffle ensued between the shopkeeper and Raphael Armstrong, during which Armstrongâs firearm fell to the ground. The shopkeeper retrieved the weapon and shot Armstrong to his body, while his accomplice fled.
Armstrong was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, and the unlicensed firearm has been handed over to the police, even as investigations are being conducted.
The beat goes on in Guyana as the developed world continue to issue travel advisory for this crime ridden country under the PNC.

A police statement said McKenzie was walking along William Street at about 08:30 hrs when two men on a motorcycle drove up, and the pillion rider discharged several rounds at him, hitting his right hand. The police said McKenzie and the two men were reportedly previously involved in an argument at a beer garden.

Living Hell â Anna Catherina woman gives chilling account living with a murderer
April 26, 2016
By Neil Marks
THE woman who stared down the face of death and finally mustered the courage to tell police that her reputed husband was behind the murder of a businesswoman and her two young sons four years ago has spoken out about the life of misery she had faced. The man, Abishai Caesar, 31, is expected to face three counts of murder today, and also charges for threatening behaviour and assault causing actually bodily harm to his wife.
The woman, who will not be named, went to the police on Friday after Caesar had forced her to strip naked and parade in their yard at the crack of dawn â a threat on which he delivered to shame the woman, and her family who lived a short distance away.
Hours earlier, at just about midnight, he had brutalised her and said he would deliver on his promise to kill her.
ESCAPE
Once Caesar had left for work at the barber shop he operated in the Tuschen New Housing scheme, East Bank Essequibo, the woman seized the opportunity to escape.
She went to her fatherâs house, a short distance away, and when it got dark, she went to the police. She would have had to pass Caesarâs barbershop to get to the police outpost.
She told the police that she had been forced to strip, and of the beatings she had received hours earlier. She also told them of previous cases of abuse.
Reports are that Officer McBeth of the Tuschen Outpost went to the home of the couple â a zinc shack built on government reserve at the back of the Tuschen Scheme. The barber was not at home.
On Saturday, at just about lunch time, McBeth visited the barber shop in White Tank Street in the Tuschen Scheme, where he arrested Caesar and took him to the Leonora Police Station.
Once the woman was told of Caesarâs arrest, she returned to the station and told police they should also question Caesar for the 2012 murders of Anna Catherina liquor store owner Jennifer Persaud and her sons Afridi Bacchus, six, and Jadon Persaud, 18 months.
It was a truth that the woman had lived with for years; living a life of fear because Caesar had threatened to kill her and her family if she squealed on him.
The woman told the Guyana Chronicle that on the night of the murders, Caesar had told her he needed money and was heading out.
She said she had seen him go up the neighbourâs house â that of Mrs Persaud. She said she retired to bed, but then she heard screams coming from the house.
CONFESSION
Later, Caesar returned home and confessed to her that he had gone to the house to steal. She said Caesar told her he had managed to find only $3,000, but that Mrs Persaud had awoken and so he had to kill her because she had recognised him.
She said Caesar told her he had seen the young boys lying in the house and had figured they would get up because of the noise, and so he decided in a split second to slit their little throats also.
Caesar was never a suspect in the case, and the couple continued living next door to the murder scene for a while, until they moved into a house situated in the seawall section of Anna Catherina.
Later, they moved in with Caesarâs sister at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, but they were put out of the house, the woman said.
They then moved into a house with an elderly lady a little down the street from Caesarâs sister, and in January of this year, Caesar said he had acquired some money and was going to squat on a piece of land on the government reserve, and they moved there with their daughter.
The woman is originally from Port Kaituma in the North West District, but did not grow up with her parents. She was sent to the Coast to live with her grandmother at the age of four, and when she was in her teens, she moved in with her father, her stepmother and their family.
It was there, at the age of 15, that she first set eyes on Caesar, then 26. He was working as a mason on a house not too far from her fatherâs house. Caesar would come to the house to buy egg-ball and other snacks the family was selling.
The two of them struck up a relationship, and at the age of 16, fearing that she wouldnât do well at the CXC exams and would waste the money her family would spend on the examinations, she dropped out of school and started living with Caesar.
ABUSE
She said the abuse started early, but she thought that things would change as time went by. The two ended up having a daughter, and, the woman said, she had hoped that that would have caused Caesar to end his abusive ways, but that did not happen.
And then came last Fridayâs torrent of blows, and she decided she had to flee for her life and that of her daughter.
âI had to do it, or I would have died. I canât go back on the years; now I have to look ahead.â
When questioned by police, Caesar confessed to killing the Anna Catherina woman and her two children.
The womanâs father told the Guyana Chronicle that he had always suspected that his daughter was being abused, but every time he asked, she would deny there was a problem.
The last time â when she was punched to the face and he had seen the marks around her eyes â he asked her what had happened, but she did not fess up. He decided to confront Caesar, who claimed the woman was stung by bees.
âHe is sick; he will (rot) in jail,â the man declared.
The woman is now left to contemplate her future. She would like to enter the Guyana Police Force, but is not sure how that will happen, and how she will take care of her daughter.
Caesar has four other children â two boys and two girls. He is expected to be arraigned in court today.
