So Correct Aro:

Goodbye to you my trusted friend
We ve known each other since we
Were nine or ten
Together we ve climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and abc s
Skinned our hearts and
Skinned our knees

Goodbye my friend it s hard to die
When all the birds are singing
In the sky
Now that spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I ll be there

This was the song that defined the beginning of the Mangeshkarian magic and transformed Madhubala into an instant living legend. Ironically, Madhubala didn't lip-sync it on screen at all ! It was played in the background. But what an impact it made ! With one song Lataji wiped away all the careers of existing female singers. Ashok Kumar who played the lead in Mahal still recalls how everyone in the room reacted when the then- unknown Lata was asked to sing. Even today mention of Aaayega aanewala lights up Lataji's eyes. "It's hundred percent my favourite. I had done a number of rehearsals for the song. Actually the composer Khemchand Prakash heard me singing for Anil Biswas. A number of tunes were readied for Aayega aanewala. I was given strict instructions about the importance of the song. The producer Ashok Kumar and the director Kamal Amrohi told me I had to sing as though the heroine was approaching from a distance. Since the studio was very large, I was placed in one corner of the room and told to gradually approach the microphone in the middle of the room while singing. There were no dubbing and editing devices in those days. We had to do it all in one go. I still remember we recorded the entire day."

Paris comes to Mumbai to honour Lataji

By Subhash K. Jha, November 27, 2006 - 04:31 IST

It's a classic illustration of the Mountain coming to Mohammad. When the French government conferred its most prestigious civilian honor the Legion D'Honour on our Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar she had only one reservation. And it had something to do with air travel.

Lataji in her inimitable shy way, expressed her inability to make the long journey to Paris to collect the award.

But was the French government deterred? Not the least! In an unprecedented move the authorities in Paris have decided to fly down to Mumbai to confer the Legion d'Honour on Asia's most prized jewel of the croon.

Says a source close to Lataji, "It's truly an unheard-of honour for our nation as a whole. To actually have a foreign government fly down to confer the honor on the recipient shows how much Lataji has achieved as an artiste."
The function to be held in Mumbai on December 13 is expected to be attended by numerous Bollywood dignitaries.

Lataji is the second super-icon from Bollywood to be conferred with the Legion d'honour this year. Earlier this year Amitabh Bachchan received the same honor.

Will ask Amral; we have a long way to go, as we are targetting about 200 Lata Solos and Maybe about 100 Duets.
I could imagine how easy it will be for those persons looking for a Lata Song.
Same was for the Rafi and Mukesh; We had a lot of help, thats what make it easy and worthwile.
