Gerald Ramsaroop is but a young upstart with little sense of history and understanding of what he is told to spout in the blogosphere. He is hardly the brightest bulb in their lot. But given that there are few who would sell their souls for pieces of silver, like Sasenarine Singh and Khemraj Ramjattan, he will have to do.

lol Good one Big Grin

Now, albert, I am still waiting on you to address anything I have said previously.

I repeat: albert, the PPP has saddled the working people of Guyana with 16% VAT - VAT today nets around 8 billion more than it did 4 years ago - and then have taken a lot of that money to engorge themselves. Not just through corruption by paying contractors for the same work over over, but by engaging in wasteful expenditure such as on Jamzone and Feminition, and by filling their pockets directly.

The pension package of the President and Opposition Leader is some $4.5 million a month, or US$750 a day, when the working person's old age pension is $7,500 a month or US$1.25 per day - and these people have to attain the age of 60, while the President and Opposition Leader get theirs upon demitting office regardless of age. Because the Berbice Bridge is being used to fatten favoured investors, poor people have to pay $600 per day for their children to cross to go to school in New Amsterdam. Gail Texeira, a Presidential advisor, is paid G$880,000 per month, or US$145 per day, and Odinga Lumumba, another advisor is paid G$660,000 per month or US$110 per day. For purely propaganda work, Dr Randy Persaud was reputed to have been paid US$10,000 per month plus benefits and allowances for the year he was here, and Dr Misir is reputed to be paid the same for the two jobs he holds, totalling some US$220,000 per year.

Wouldn't it have led to greater progress for the working people if some of this money were going to the social sector? And albert, you are making a shameless admission to these obscenities and you are trying to justify them too! You are in effect saying to the working people, "Be grateful for what we give you, don't worry with what we give to ourselves."

Now, that is something to be ashamed about! Shame, albert, shame.

In the absence of you addressing any of this, albert, it stands as fact to the readers of GNI.

I have spoken to a lot of people in GY about this chap Gerald and not one has anything bad to say about the chap. I have seen a few blogs lately where people try to smear the man's character, I will tell you chaps something focus on how you will rebuild the PPP rather than focusing on tearing down other people.

This is quite true. While I believe he is a bit naive. I admire his earnestness and his obvious honesty and integrity. Never met the man but this shines through.

Bash him and teh AFC gets sympathy votes as that fat toad you all plan to elect so he can be used by Jagdeo appeals to very few people.

At this rate you all will get druggie to vote AFC. Even horsie will shrink away embarrassed by how you all PPPites behave.

English expert; you mean attend "to" the horse not "on" a horse. And the first statement is a conclusion so the "hence" opening the second sentence should be "further"

PPP ALL THE WAY: LET PROGRESS CONTINUES

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its outlook for Guyana in 2011, an elections year, stated that Guyana’s economic outlook remains positive. The multilateral lending agency also said that road projects, construction of a large hydropower plant at Amaila Falls (AFHP), and implementation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) should sustain growth levels above the long- run trend of three per cent, at around five per cent over the medium term, before tapering off in 2015 as one-off projects are completed.

The IDB stated that despite external and domestic shocks, the Guyanese economy demonstrated resilience and registered a fifth consecutive year of robust growth in 2010. Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by around 3.4 per cent — slightly more than in 2009 — supported by expansion in the gold and services sectors, which helped offset lower output in the sugar sector. End of year inflation rose to 4.4 per cent from 3.7 per cent in 2009, reflecting higher food prices, as these tended to reflect the impact of higher fuel costs/procurement.

People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Presidential Candidate, Donald Ramotar addressing members of private sector bodies at a luncheon at the Pegasus Hotel, Kingston.

The Presidential Candidate said that his campaign will be centered on the basis of continuity with new, progressive programmes in the party’s manifesto that will be launched soon.

He said that in order to grasp opportunities and thrive in a world that is constantly evolving, Guyanese have to first understand and have a greater sense of appreciation of what is taking place in the world at large; while at the same time craft policies that will limit the negative effects of this process.

“Government, the private sector and the labour force must be able to deal with the challenges that lie ahead; we must be able to adapt to the new conditions that we are constantly facing in the world,” he said.

The PPP Presidential Candidate also highlighted the growth in the local economy, pointing to the turnaround of the country’s debt ration which stood at 94 percent of gross domestic product in 1992 and is now reduced to just about 4 percent of GDP. He notes that with this and the many legislative and fiscal reforms the PPP/Civic will be returned to power at the elections.

AFTER 58 YEARS THE PPP STANDS VINDICATED AND REMAINS LOYAL TO THE WORKING CLASS SAYS PPP'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DONALD RAMOTAUR:

MI5 revelationsâ€Ķ

Written by Johann Earle
Sunday, 28 August 2011 01:46

Cheddi Jagan and PPP stand vindicated, says Ramotar
GENERAL Secretary of the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Mr. Donald Ramotar said revelations by the British MI5 security service about the details of a British-backed and orchestrated coup that overthrew the Government of Dr. Cheddi Jagan in 1953 vindicates a position held by Dr. Jagan and, despite all that has happened, the PPP remains loyal to the working class people. “Whenever you have an intervention to remove democratically elected leaders and that of the will of the people, experience has shown that the results are always negative,” said Ramotar in a comment to this newspaper yesterday. “The most important thing for us is lifting people’s quality of life,” he said. The PPP General Secretary and Presidential Candidate said that, to this day, some Governments seem not to have learnt anything regarding interventions and what they may mean for the people of that country.
Secret documents declassified on Friday by Britain’s MI5 reveal in detail how, in 1953, the United Kingdom under Prime Minister Winston Churchill constitutionally overthrew the elected government of British Guiana, fearing the leftwing leader – Cheddi Jagan - and his American wife Janet Jagan would lead the British colony into the arms of the Soviet Union.
This newspaper reported that the documents reveal how British spies kept up intense scrutiny on Cheddi Jagan and his wife Janet, who together founded the People's Progressive party (PPP) to campaign for workers' rights and independence from British rule for the country.
According to the declassified documents, the UK had agreed to a new constitution in the early 1950s which allowed British Guiana's political parties to participate in national elections and form a government, but maintained power in the hands of the British-appointed governor.
In 1951, the year after the Jagans founded their party, an MI5 agent based in Trinidad described them as “something new in British Guiana politics”.
The files revealed that to the British authorities, the Jagans were a headache, and to the Americans, they were a potential communist threat on America's doorstep.
MI5 concluded that their party was "not receiving any financial support from any communist organisation outside the country".
Nonetheless, amid worsening strikes and unrest, Britain grew unhappy with the Jagans' "disruptive antics".
The reports said that after the PPP won a huge majority in British Guiana's 1953 election, making Cheddi Jagan prime minister, Churchill decided to act.
While it was revealed that the British sought the help of the Americans to “break the communist teeth in British Guiana”, in the end, Britain acted alone, mounting a military operation codenamed Operation Windsor.
It was disclosed that in the years that followed, MI5 softened somewhat towards Cheddi Jagan, acknowledging that he was an astute and popular politician – though the agent based in Trinidad at the time strongly disliked Janet Jagan, whom he described as a committed communist "uncompromising in her hatreds".
By the 1960s, Britain's spies were worried that the Jagans would turn to newly communist Cuba, possibly making their country a base for Latin American revolutionaries.
The reports stated it was clear from previously released official documents, that successive British governments gave in to pressure from the White House to allow the CIA to use subterranean means to ensure that the first leader of independent Guyana in 1966 was not Cheddi Jagan.
Ramotar yesterday said that the party will be making a more studied and detailed statement on the details that have been revealed.

Presidential Candidate and Adviser Donald Ramotar speaking to the gathering at the Parika Night and Expo 2011.

First ever Parika Expo attracts massive crowd - President shares news of major Region Three development plans

Georgetown, GINA, August 28, 2011

Organisers of the first ever Parika Night and Expo 2011 are deeming it as an event similar to the Main Big Lime after a massive crowd turned out in support on the evening of August 27, in the popular Region Three village. They were so impressed at its success that they gave the nod of approval for it to become an annual feature of the East Bank Essequibo village and a calendar event of the Tourism Ministry.

The inaugural Parika Night and Expo 2011 event was organised through a partnership effort of the Mara/Parika Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Business community and the Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce.

President Bharrat Jagdeo was among those who appeared at the fun filled event in the company of Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali and was later joined by Presidential Candidate and Adviser Donald Ramotar who mingled with the crowd in customary meet and greet fashion.

A section of the road leading to the expo in the vicinity of Hydronia was cordoned off to vehicular traffic and as patrons made their way in they were greeted by a towering "Welcome" sign.

The sale of local cuisines and popular sound systems, stationed at various locations augmented the party like atmosphere while sections of the business community were represented by booth displays.

Patrons were also treated to live band and dance performances with special appearances by some popular local and regional artistes such as Guyanese born "Natural Black" from Jamaica and Little Joey from Trinidad and Tobago.

While addressing the gathering President Jagdeo commended the organisers for staging the event that attracted a crowd of such magnitude and used the occasion to provide an update on major development plans in the making for Region Three.
Foremost on the agenda is the extension of the road into a four lane highway from the Demerara Harbour Bridge, West Bank Demerara to Parika, East Bank Essequibo which he said will significantly ease traffic congestion. The plan is one of several to be implemented on sections of the countries roads laden with heavy traffic. The Head of State also spoke of the $600M being spent at present on the construction of a state of the art synthetic track at Leonora which he described as a necessary component of community development.

"That facility when completed, will be lighted, hundreds of events will run off there, you're going to have a series of hotels and restaurants and a number of things built around it so that the West Coast too will enjoy a whole range of facilities that people in Georgetown and other parts have access to," President Jagdeo said.

The Leonora Technical Institute, which is under construction according to President Jagdeo will attract students from across Guyana and the islands. More importantly, he said, residents of the West Coast will no longer have to bear the coast of travelling to the city for such education.
Such investments, President Jagdeo said are testimony to the country's robust economy and Government's commitment to progress.
Ramotar, a native of Region Three subsequently joined the expo and addressed the gathering and compared the Parika of today, to that of the past.

"Today we have three banks, functioning here and the community itself has become very vibrant," Ramotar said.

Parika Night and Expo 2011 attracted over 30 participants according to Chairman of the Parika NDC Parmanand Samlall, the majority of which are the business community, commercial banks and NDC.

NACTA poll reports Ramotar preferred for presidency

Monday, 29 August 2011 00:38

A tracking opinion survey on Guyana’s general elections conducted by North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA) in mid-August showed the PPP Presidential candidate Donald Ramotar is more preferred over David Granger of the Alliance Party for National Unity (APNU), Khemraj Ramjattan of the Alliance For Change (AFC), C.N Sharma of Justice For All Party (JFAP) and other candidates for the Presidency. The survey also shows the incumbent People’s Progressive Party (PPP) way ahead of its challengers in popular support and is likely to win the upcoming general elections constitutionally due by year end.
NACTA, founded in New York by Caribbean educators, said it has no affiliation with any political party adding that it has been conducting polls regularly in Guyana, the Caribbean and other regions over the last 20 years. The latest Guyana poll was conducted to determine peoples’ preference for the Presidency, approval ratings for the President, and popular support for the political parties.
The poll randomly interviewed 420 voters to yield a demographically representative sample (45% Indians, 30% Africans, 16% Mixed, 8% Amerindians, and 1% other races) of the population.
NACTA said the survey was conducted by interviewers with many years of experience in survey interviewing and was coordinated by Vishnu Bisram, a pollster, newspaper columnist, and an educator in NY. The results of the poll were analyzed at a 95 per cent significance level and a statistical sampling error of plus or minus five-percentage point was found. Sampling results based on subgroups (such as Indians or Africans) have a larger sampling error of about 6%.
Asked who they prefer as President of Guyana among the available choices representing the varied parties, 46% opted for Ramotar, 23% chose Granger, 8% Ramjattan, 1% Sharma and less than 1% all other candidates, with 21% not making a choice. Mr. Sharma is the most popular among the candidates but he is not getting traction in voter support. Many voters said they would have preferred other prominent personalities as President including Robert Corbin, Moses Nagamootoo, Robert Persaud, Ralph Ramkarran, Basil Williams, Irfan Ali, Faith Harding, etc.
In terms of popular support, the PPP is polling 47%, followed by APNU 24%, AFC 7%, JFAP 1%, other parties less than 1%, and 20% undecided or no response. With the election is still months away and opinions could change by then.
Asked if they are satisfied with Jagdeo’s overall performance as President for the last 12 years, 63% said yes with 24% saying no and 13% not sure or offered no answer.
Asked if they approve of the job the President is currently doing, 71% said yes, with 23% saying no and 6% not sure.

Who do you prefer as President?

Candidate
Donald Ramotar 46%
David Granger 23%
Khem Ramjattan 8%
C.N Sharma 1%
Others 1%
Not Sure 21%
