* A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.

* Look at that audience photo again folks. Are those Guyanese people ?

* Well clearly they ain't enthused to see their President.

* They must be PNC supporters.

Rev, I was hoping you would pick it up. That misleading info about Donald's birthplace is in Wikipedia.

In his Facebook account, here is what Donald says: "I was born on the 22nd October, 1950 in the village of Caria Caria on the Essequibo River, to Mr. Sam Ramotar and Ms. Olive Constantine. My father was a Timber Grant operator and my mother, a housewife. I have eight siblings."

* I guess the Wikipedia information about Janet dying in Belem, Brazil is also incorrect.

* By the way, I notice Ramotar's mother's name was Olive Constantine. She must have been either Portuguese or maybe she was a "Red" lady---I believe that's Portuguese and black.

BOTTOM LINE:

* Ramotar is a Mixed heritage Guyanese.

DONALD RAMOTAR IN HIS OWN WORDS:

"I was born on the 22nd October, 1950 in the village of Caria Caria on the Essequibo River, to Mr. Sam Ramotar and Ms. Olive Constantine. My father was a Timber Grant operator and my mother, a housewife. I have eight siblings.

I am an economist by training, received my primary education at Caria Caria Congregational School and the St. Andrew’s Primary School. I later pursued studies at the Government Technical Institute and went on to become a graduate of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Guyana. I also pursued studies in the then Former Soviet Union.

I began my working career on my father’s timber grant. Between 1966 and 1975 I worked at GIMPEX, the commercial arm of the PPP. In 1975 I was appointed Manager of Freedom House, a position I held for eight years. From 1983 to 1988, I served as a member of the Editorial Council of the magazine ‘Problems of Peace and Socialism’ and as the International Secretary of the Guyana Agricultural Workers’ Union (GAWU) between 1988 and 1993.

Having joined the PPP in 1967 I have been in the leadership of the party since 1979 when I was elected to the Central Committee. I became a member of the Executive Committee of the PPP in 1983 and assumed the position of Executive Secretary of the party one year after the PPP was restored to office in 1992. I became General Secretary in March 1997 when Dr. Cheddi Jagan passed away and resigned in 2013. I have extensive experience within the party and has represented the party on numerous occasions abroad. I have published a number of articles and is a regular columnist for the Mirror Newspaper. I served as a member of the ACP- EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and a Bureau member of that organization. Locally I served as a member of Guyana’s National Assembly from 1992 to 2011, when I was elected President of Guyana. In addition, I served on several Corporate Boards.
I am happily married to Deolatchmee and together we have borne three amazing children: Alexei, Alvaro and Lisa.

* Donald correctly describes himself as humble.

* He was General Secretary of his party for 16 years, but it was his humility that made President Jagdeo handpick him to lead the PPP in the 2011 election.

* Folks like Nagamootoo and Ramkarran were too arrogant---they harbored a sense of entitlement---they paraded around like they were entitled to be President.

* Well, Jagdeo screwed them over and picked the HUMBLE guy.

* This thread was started to celebrate Guyana's first couple, the Ramotars.

* Now, Mira did not belittle the Ramotars. She just stated jovially that the Obamas are more winsome/charming. She is most entitled to her opinion. And she may even be right.

* Anyway, let's not get carried away. This has turned out to be a pleasant thread. And there will be more photos of the Ramotars later on.

I can list you a dozen or more dictators starting with fascist  Benito Mussolini and ending with the Hitler. I guess you had the cliff notes on Machiavelli's advice to Lorenzo de Medici in the "Prince". Note that fictive prince was modeled after the infamous Cesare Borgia!

So much for humble.....One did not have to go into the fact that Jabba squatted on the sugar board while the industry burned as he delivered up to us the fat white whale that is the Skeldon factory...or that his sojourn on the board of OMAI, the company that extracted 3.7 million oz of gold and left us two massive holes in the ground not to mention the legacy of the largest cyanide spill in the world...never declared a profit. Is this not the humble fellow whose two kids are purported to be extracting 24 thousand in salary from the Guyanese people in cushy jobs that brings us the same incompetence as their father?

Men make clothes...not the other way around. Prissy pretentious people thinks the gear they have on makes them what they are. Others know them for what they are.

I doubt anyone remember if Galileo was in floral pantaloons when he discovered other worlds or what  Kepler wore on the day he presented his three laws. Maybe you can tell us if without clothes Einstein would have thought differently about matter and energy than he did.

The fact is, clothes serves a function and that is all. It does not give the gift of wisdom. Maybe you should tell us which sage or philosopher advised on the appropriateness of the right codpiece or waistcoat or toga as keys to understanding. I have heard of realism, anti realism, existentialism, empiricism, etc but never clothism. I also heard of Buddhism, Brahmanism, Christians, Muslims, Jews but again no theology organized on the wisdom of clothes!

* Some people love a good meal. Some people love a good movie. Some people love a good book. Some people love good music. And some people love good clothes. Everyone's taste is different.

* Regarding clothes, my wife puts it this way: "Clothes don't make the man but clothes can surely make the man look great."

CHECK OUT THIS THEODORE ROOSEVELT LEATHER COAT AT ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORES ORVIS

As seen in photos of Roosevelt on horseback, his men's leather riding jacket featured a cutaway for comfort in the saddle. Ours follows suit. Our jacket features durable cowhide with a polyester lining for a comfortable fit. The pockets on Roosevelt's own chaps, on display at his museum, provided inspiration for our pocket design. Traditional antler buttons. In brown. Genuine leather shell.

You are quite daft.  I doubt those cultures who garb themselves in the same functional clothes are "dirty" in general. How about poor people who possibly have only a few changes? Most of the people on this site would have had minimal capacity to have multiple changes of clothes growing up and I am sure they do not think they were dirty.

You make general statements of others to cover that obscenely pretentious existence. In the long run it matters not. As I got older I soon discover I want very little other than what I use. I long more to see, to understand and to do things that matter. Most of the time I wish I had  started earlier.

These are the real and worthy things that satisfies the mind and make being alive a worthy experience. I doubt I am much older so I know these these preoccupations with the facile and the  trivial will soon pass as wisdom comes. If only it came sooner!

Rev, I have seen beauties and I can tell you that Ms. Baksh and Ms. Khan were better looking than Ms. Nalini. Most women gain a little weight as they get older. She might have gained weight but I don't think she would allow herself to get fat. Well, like you said she is about 63. Most men these days admire women who are in their 20's and 30's.
