My views are public infrastructure, should be in government hands, Min.Patterson is within his rights to take control of the Berbice River Bridge.

Public infrastructure should be in the State's hands, like the Demerara Harbour Bridge. The Berbice bridge should be "nationalized" and the private owners compensated.

Bunham nationalized the Sugar Industry and screw it up, Patterson takes over the Bridge and soon we will be singing " Berbice Bridge is falling sown, falling down"!!!!!!

Amid a raging dispute over tolls, the Guyana Government today said it was taking temporary control of the Berbice Bridge effective today.

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE ON THE BERBICE RIVER BRIDGE

On the basis of correspondence between both sides as recently as over the past few days, we do not envision a swift resolution to this crisis.

Therefore, in accordance with the powers conferred upon the Minister by Sections 4 (1) and 11 of the Berbice River Bridge Act, in the interests of public safety, the Minister issued (today) an Order declaring that the functions of the Concessionaire to maintain and operate the Bridge shall be exercised by the Government of Guyana as of 5th November 2018 until the date the Minister specifies by notice on the cessation of the threat to public safety.

Perhaps, PNCR/AFC government needs to state clearly what exactly are the -- interests of public safety -- for individuals to know the reasons.

A good move by any government, until this matter can be resolved properly.

The BBC must tell the nation or government if this increase in toll charges is necessary to break even or if it is to reward investors with double digit returns.  If it's the latter i say it must not happen. Investors must accept risk in investing.  You will make in some years and lose in others. We need more information on this issue to pronounce on it

The fact of the matter it’s irrelevant. If you increase an already unaffordable rate, it will drive traffic further down, then you have to increase again.  It’s a death spiral!

What is needed is a lowering of the tolls to increase volumes and compensate.  Like any business venture, you run losses at the start. The problem here, who funds those losses? 

I don’t see any solution without government participation.  And clearly this was not properly covered or it would have already  been exercised!!
