Does anyone know a political activist name, Jordan that was associated with the Wismar massacre?

Robert Jordan. He became Burnham's first Minister of Agriculture in 1964.

I was told by an anonymous source that Jordon was fired by Burnham for harassing Dr. Jagan.  Burnham allegedly told Jordon that without Jagan there would be no Burnham before he proceeded to fire Jordon.  I don't know if this was true.

When in doubt, don't.

Gill,

There was a kidnapping of a female child in the precincts of CI School,in the early sixties.

Early sixties = before disturbances = before 1969. I don't know about that kidnapping.

"The first victim, eight-year-old Basmattie, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, was found in a canal in Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo in April,1969."

Cant recall exactly it was after the disturbances, will confirm with my older brother.

The above may be that incident.

Posted by Ronan.

Yes, this is the 1969 one. Now I know the outcome. Thanks, guys.

Gill,

confirmed with my brother, the first victim is from Cornelia Ida not Anna Catherina and it's Swami niece.

...which plays directly into Carib's point that the Sun Chapman bombing was carried out by Indians in the PPP as revenge. Instead the Indo KKK hay continue to assert that black folks transported dynamite from GT which exploded on the Sun Chapman. A stupid assertion given the abundance of dynamite in McKenzie for mining operations.

The Sun Chapman was searched in Georgetown by police before it took off on its journey because a person had overheard an employee of another launch "the lalita" saying that the Sun Chapman was going to be bombed. The police found nothing on the Sun Chapman in Georgetown. If it was a bomb then it may have been brought on board by a passenger during the stops made by the launch on its way to Linden.

Fifty-four years a mysteryâ€ĶWho bombed the Son Chapman ?

Friday, July 6, 2018, marked 54 years since the ill-fated Son Chapman launch was bombed on its journey with passengers traveling from Georgetown to Linden. The launch sank immediately and some 43 persons lost their lives. This was one of the gruesome acts of political violence which was perpetrated during the 1963 to 1964 disturbances.
The Son Chapman was a wooden launch owned by the late Mr. Norman Chapman that plied the Mackenzie/ Georgetown route transporting passengers and cargo. The Son Chapman left Mackenzie at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday July 3, 1964 with a five-man crew and 63 passengers traveling to Georgetown, but no one, including the crew members, Captain Herman Softleigh, engineer Astes Cooper, purser Charles Lewis and sailors Alphie and Harold Cummings, knew that it was the last time it would make that journey.

Some two months before that tragic day, rumors were heard that the Son Chapman would never return to Linden, but they were dismissed as propaganda. On that fateful day, the Son Chapman left the Stabroek Market wharf with passengers and cargo consisting of paddy, flour, sugar, green vegetables and ground provisions. Evidence during the inquest that was subsequently held revealed that the boat later stopped at the Fish Koker near Sussex Street where five bags of rice were loaded on the vessel.
The launch did not leave with a full complement of passengers as some were scared because of the rumour. Some passengers opted to travel with another launch, The Emperor, or the regular Sprostons owned steamer, The RH CARR.
At approximately 4:30 p.m that day when the launch was about 300 yards from Hooradia, approximately one-hour’s traveling time from Linden, there was a loud explosion. Persons were flung into the river, while some appeared to have died instantly. Others jumped into the Demerara River as the launch sank within minutes of the explosion. Survivors told the sad story of the scene thereafter with some persons swimming to the shore, others clinging on to floating objects such as bags and tins while others were screaming for help as they sank to the bottom of the river.
Sixty-two witnesses testified during the six days of the inquest which began on March 16th 1965. Among those who testified were survivors. Some testified that they had heard the rumor prior to the bombing of the launch. According to one witness, a woman was warned not to travel on the launch that day but she insisted on traveling. Regrettably she was one of those who perished in the tragedy. Another witness testified that he had heard a conversation in a hotel room in Lombard Street, and that he knew the voices, and later saw the same men he identified the following morning. Some witnesses testified that they saw three suspicious men on the Son Chapman who came off the vessel at a stop shortly before the launch was blown up. The theory that a bomb was thrown into the launch was refuted as it was established that the bomb had to be placed with the cargo in the boat for the vessel to have sunk the way it did.
Dr. Robert Klautky testified before Coroner, Mr. PM Burch- Smith and the five-man jury, that persons died from mutilation following an explosion. There were about 20 survivors and forty-three who perished, including a four year old child. Eleven bodies were never recovered. At the end of the inquest, while fingers were clearly pointed to a political plot, no one was charged, according to the coroner, due to lack of sufficient evidence.
The scars which the Son Chapman tragedy left on the people of Linden cannot be erased. They are painful reminders that Guyana needs a political solution that would be long lasting and for the benefit of all.

Imagine, there was so much tension, suspicion, people even opted not to use the boat, yet someone was able to enter this controlled environment, plant a large bomb, exited the scene and no one even had a clue, no one saw anything, no one checked what was being placed on the boat!  Maybe some people knew the PNC was transporting suspicious materiel and got nervous and opted to traveled RH Carr!

The PNC and their false narrative concoction need to sell their story to low or non-thinkers.

The theory the PPP peddle that explosives or detonators accidentally exploded on the boat is a load of baloney. First of all, there were rumors that the boat was going to be targeted before the day it blew up so it was no accident. Then there were lots of explosives and detonators at McKenzie/Wismar so there was no need to transport explosives to McKenzie/Wismar. By the time this boat was bombed, all the Indians living at McKenzie/Wismar had already evacuated, so who were the PNC planning to bomb, themselves? A mere three weeks previous to Son Chapman, the Abrahams house was firebombed killing Mr. Abraham and seven of his children. I guess Mr. Abraham, a respected civil servant, was also storing explosives in his house and accidentally blew himself and his family up. I know Brer Anansi stories when I hear them and I'd be damned if I ever believe that the Son Chapman accidentally blew up and Mr. Abraham blew up himself and his family.

They obviously could not check everyone who was travelling on the boat and they did not. The boat probably carried a hundred people when it was full. How big of a bomb do you think is needed to blow up a boat? It can easily fit in a personal bag being carried. So people heard rumors of the boat being targeted but when it was eventually blown up, it was an accident? Who was looking for revenge a few weeks after the Wismar incident against Indians? Ding, Ding, Ding. Transporting explosives to Wismar when you can get explosives there a lot easier? To bomb who? All the Indians were gone by then. Do you believe anyone with a bit of common sense to believe this?

My cousins lived near to Mr. Abraham and we know that family very well. My cousins still have their house there on Hadfield Street, near to the Brickdam Cathedral. I was right there up to a few months ago. The man was a respectable civil servant, the Permanent Secretary to the Governor General. He held the same position in the Premier's Office when Jagan came to power. He was a UF member and was accused of carrying secrets from Jagan's office to the opposition. His daughter, who was also a UF activist, worked for Barclays Bank and discovered checks coming from the Russians for the PPP. She disclosed this and was charged for sedition by the Jagan Government. The suggestion that Mr. Abraham was storing bombs and blew himself and his family up is simply ludicrous. Another PPP Anansi story. It all fits into the narrative that the PPP were angels and all the violence was coming from the other side against them. Y'all head really got filled with nonsense from the PYO and your relatives.

Every action has a reaction.  You cannot expect to rape innocent East Indian girls with empty soft drink bottles, chop a man's head off and burn innocent East Indians alive to their deaths and then walk away as nothing happen.  For those people who did that and their immediate families, watch your backs until you depart this world.

I am still waiting for justice for Sawh.

As for Wismar and the PPP: there were quite a few well known Indians who enriched themselves from taking advantage of PPP ties to the PNC. The rampaging blacks did not distinguish between them and other Indians however. So those that had not fled to MacKenzie were just as likely to have become a victim, even if they supported the PNC.

Obviously someone who they had no reason to search brought a significant device and did the carnage.  Points to inside job, PNC/UF/CIA.

I never said Abraham blew up his family. He clearly did not count on it blowing up in his face.

Once again, this was a significant explosion requiring planning and execution yet all we have are insinuations but a hand grenade was tossed in a bus and someone was arrested, tried and executed.

What do think, there was Homeland Security searching the passengers entering a boat in 1964 Guyana? Now you’re trying to say that the PNC blew up their own people on the boat? What are the odds that opposition forces would be bombed twice in a few weeks and they did it to themselves? Y’all stories getting taller as the years go by. I guess you owe it to your elders to pass on the bull crap stories you’re were told but don’t expect anyone with a lil common sense to believe this nonsense.

I’m sure Mr. Abraham did not count on the Cuban trained PYO bomb makers blowing up a bomb in his face killing him and his seven children. You’re right about that one.

There were rumors, expectations, yet someone was still able to enter this boat, plant a large bomb and never raised suspicion, no checks.

Don't mix in the Abraham case.  Surely, I don't think Mr Abraham ever intended those explosives he was storing up for the PNC/UF/CIA operatives for use against Indians to go off in his face killing him and his family.

As I said, this is an Alfred Hitchcock story for shallow thinkers!

How do we know it’s not a conspiracy within the PNC camp. The racial tension was extremely high around that time, how come 38 Africans fail to detect suspicious package and movements  by Indians on the ship.

There is no hard evidence to nail a particular group for this bombing, but reading all the details from everyone, one can conclude, the PNC is responsible.

This incident was fading the memory, but over the weekend, it was a discussion at a social gathering that brought back sad memories, unfortunately.

All of us, as adult need to do our part to bridge this racial gap, the younger generation has no time for this hate.

Common sense would tell you that people don’t blow up other members of their own team in the middle of a war. Especially twice within the space of three weeks. But many are known to toss aside common sense and hold on to theories that make no sense when they try to evade blame for their own indiscretions.

Wismar has always been regurgitated by the PPP year after year because they know how to play the victim well. They have to pass on to future generations the hogwash that violence was only coming from one side. Especially with elections coming up, they have to rile up the base for votes.

Some attended Russian universities. To this day, they still wear red shirts to show they are proud Communists.

I like wearing red shirts. Does this make me a communist? I believe that those who enrich themselves at the mercy of my unfortunate brothers and sisters should use some of their wealth to help them.

So Dave what you sayin here is, there is no evidence who carried out the bombing but leh we blame PNC...correct?

Cain, the conclusion from most people back in the days hence my  conclusion, I stand to be corrected,  I was not there and was only 2 years old.

My mother in law was born and grow up in Wismar and was a victim . I heard from folks who suffer and have evidence to show and is  trying to make sense of the bombing.

Is there anyone on this site who endure the suffering. I rest my case.
