Four armed men rob Eccles fishery

A number of employees of International Fisheries Limited located in Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, were left traumatized after four armed men robbed them around 14:00hrs yesterday at the fish plant.

The building in which the robbery occurred.

According to one employee who asked to remain anonymous, he and a colleague left the main fish plant to have lunch nearby another building in the same compound. During that time his workmate was using two cellular phones. After eating, the two men returned to the fish plant.
When they were about to enter the building the four men pounced on them, forcing them into the main section of the building. The man said that one of the men immediately asked his colleague for the two mobile phones he was just using.
“They seh pass de phone pass de phone. He seh he aint got no phone. Then de man seh a see you with two phone just now.”
Based on this, the employees believe that the men were in the yard for some time observing them. Giving this theory more credibility was the fact that the men were covered in dried mud. Further, the section from whence the men apparently emerged is covered in thick bush.
When the robbers detained about five employees in the plant, they began demanding money, jewellery and cellular phones. According to the same employee, two of the men were armed with guns while the remaining pair had cutlasses.
He said that one of the men asked a female employee, “Whey de bag deh, and she hold on pon de bag and dem pull out de money. And then dem come and search up everybody. Dem search up the girl and cuff she and when dem done, dem tek de cutlass and lash up on de table.”
At that time, a customer visited the complex and was also robbed of her valuables. When they made their escape, the men locked the Security shutter which could only be opened from the outside.
The woman from whom the bandits took the money said that she heard the commotion when the men entered the building but was not sure what was happening. When approaching the front of the complex she saw a signal from one employee but did not understand what it meant.
“Dem a show me sign, but like me nah understand what dem ah tell me so by time me could run back the boy see me turning back.”
She said, too, that while turning back she wondered that if she should hide, and the bandits found nothing to take, they might have taken out their frustration on the other employees and hurt them.

The 67-year told Guyana Times that he was in his bedroom watching television and at about 12:45h he went to the bathroom and upon returning to his bedroom, he was confronted by the men.
“I spent like about 15 minutes and going back when I open the bedroom door, ah brace up with four men; one with a gun, one with a cutlass and two with nothing. They start to rough me up and asking ‘where is the money, where is the money’. I tell them that all the money I get is in the pants, so one of them go and take out the money and they still asking, ‘where is the rest’, and I tell them that I don’t have more,” the pensioner related.

The former building maintenance engineer, who arrived in Guyana on December 3, said he tried to explain to the thieves that he is in the habit of borrowing money from friends whenever he is in Guyana and repaying when he returns to New York.
After relieving the pensioner, the bandits then turned their attention to his domestic help, Samantha Williams, who was asleep in another room.
“Dem ask me if I know which side this man does put his money and I tell them that is not my business and I don’t mind his business, then the one with the gun ask me, ‘where is me money’, and ah tell him look on the table and then he look and see the light on the phone under the sheet and the pull it away from me and then he put his hand on my breast and then he go out the room,” the woman related.

He said that an ex-policeman is among the detainees, most of whom have previous charges for armed robbery.
The suspects have already been swabbed for possible traces of gunpowder residue.
Commander Watts said that the suspects were taken into custody “based on evidence received,” and will also be placed on identification parade.
So far, none of the loot has been recovered.
There are reports that while five gunmen entered Churaman’s home, ten others stood guard in the street, while firing shots to keep neighbours at bay.
Shots were also fired directly into Churaman’s home.
Confirming the extent of the gang’s firepower, Deputy Superintendent Gary McAllister said that 21 live 7.62 x 39 rounds (used in the AK-47 rifle), about eight 7.62 x 39 shells; two twelve-gauge shotgun cartridges, and a warhead were retrieved from the scene.
Churaman and several neighbours said that the gunmen took some 20 minutes to enter the residence, and spent another 20 minutes inside.
However, ranks at the Springlands Police Station allegedly took at least an hour and 15 minutes to arrive, despite receiving a number of phone calls from the victim and neighbours while the attack was in progress.
Churaman told Kaieteur News that he was alone when the men smashed their way into his home.
“Dem man tek sledge hammer and bruk meh steel door and front window and come in.
“About five of dem come in meh house with one set ah big big gun and start fire shots”. Churaman stated that the men took approximately 20 minutes to enter his home, during which time he called a police rank from Georgetown. This rank reportedly made contact with the Springlands Station, but no one came.
Springlands Police Station is reportedly located some two minutes away from Churaman’s residence.
“When they (the gunmen) got in, dem start pull out and tumble up, they had me at gunpoint asking for the cash.”
Churaman related to Kaieteur News that he told the bandits that he hadn’t money at home but this angered one of the men, who rushed up to him with a cutlass.
He revealed that the men used a steel hammer to remove a steel door to his bedroom. They also searched another room in the upper flat, where they located an undisclosed sum of money and about $1M in jewellery.
Churaman stated that throughout the ordeal he was ordered to lay face-down with a gun pointed at his head.
The gang also vandalized surveillance cameras on the premises.
Churaman’s wife and two children were not at home at the time of the robbery.
According to a resident, at around 01:45 hrs, “we just hear like gunshots going off. We didn’t know if it was fire rockets, but when my son peep through the window, he saw four persons trying fuh break open the door and front window (of Churaman’s house), so we immediately called the police.”
He said that seven calls were made to the Springlands Police Station, but the ranks said that no patrol was available.
“This ting tek like about twenty minutes, a lot of gunshots were fired, like about sixty, seventy, I can’t really say, but plenty,”
Another resident told Kaieteur News that “I heard the explosions and talking going on. One ah dem (bandits) askin if “alyuh get everything bai?” but I ain’t hear no response, but then I hear ah next one say “let’s move it.”
That is all I hear, because I didn’t come out.
I stay in me house after I hear the gunshots.”
Commander Watts, who visited the scene, said “we discovered twenty-one live 7.62 by 39 rounds of ammunition and we also retrieved cartridge casings, so it clearly tells us that these men were armed with rifles and shotguns.
“Fortunately, the victim was not shot, but several rounds were fired in the area which caused residents to be alarmed.”
Commander Watts also said that a team from Georgetown will be sent to boost the manpower at the Springlands Station.
Asked about the slow response time by his ranks, the Commander said that “we had ranks on the road, but information was not immediate for us to respond to.
I received a call at my residence at 02:50 hrs, and I can confirm this.”
The commander charged that with the increased manpower to support the police in township of Corriverton “this should reassure the public that we are concerned and we have adequate security measures in place to have a crime-free holiday.”

What are the PNC jackasses in power doing to solve crime? They posting statistics showing drops in crime but the reality on the ground says otherwise.

Attack at 14 Miles Issano… Victim calls for “notorious” gang to be brought to justice

“Notorious” is the word being used to describe the gang of men who attacked, robbed and left 30-year-old Orin Baptiste for dead along the trail at 14 Miles Issano.

The injured Orin Baptiste

Last Wednesday, Baptiste of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was shot with an arrow, beaten, chopped and left for dead on the trail at the Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven location.
He was air-dashed to the city, hours after the attack and was admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains a patient.
The man suffered injuries to both arms as well as a gash to his left knee cap which was almost severed. He has since undergone a number of surgeries.
Speaking with this publication from his hospital bed yesterday, Baptiste recalled that he was leaving the area to return to Georgetown, when he was attacked. He had ventured into the interior about two months ago to seek employment.
He explained that while working in the area on a dredge for a man called “Morris, he decided to return home to Georgetown.
“After I finish de work I get couple pennyweight of raw gold. It was me and about three other man and we decide to come out. They come out before me and we meet up.”
“The men,” he said “gave me money to buy some things fuh we eat at a shop. When I come back they ask me to keep dem bags.”
While standing along the trail watching over the bags, Baptiste said that he was attacked.
“All I know is like about six men run pass me. I didn’t tek it for nothing, but then they circle me and one pull a arrow and bow and shoot me. They scramble up the bags and started to beat and chop me. Ah know one of dem though; the one that shoot me with the arrow is an Amerindian man. I know him. I meet he when I de going in the bush and he showed me a shortcut.”
The injured man recalled that the men searched the bags and emptied his pockets before leaving him in a bloodied state along the trail.
He said that he could have been dead if it were not for a few public-spirited citizens on a passing truck. The man recalled that the group of assailants ran off after some people on the truck intervened.
“They run into the bush, but people know them. It look like is this what they does do – beat and rob people in the trail. And because police deh far away from there, it got to be that they does do this thing steady, because the police would tek about five hours before they reach dem,” Baptiste reflected.
From all appearances, the man said, the police have not arrested anyone in connection with the incident.
The injured man expressed his concerns about the investigations.
“One police woman alone come at the hospital to see me since, and she tek down me name alone. She didn’t even look to tek a statement. They had an Amerindian lady in there (14 Miles Issano) that know these people that rob me, and I know the woman,” he explained
The father of one is adamant that his attackers must be found and brought to justice.
“I could have died because I lose a lot of blood, and I wait for almost a whole day before I get to the station and then the hospital. Dem man could have killed me for li’l gold,” he stressed.

Looks like nuff antiman in the police force as this man was strip searched and made to squat repeatedly naked.

French citizen claims cop strip-searched him at Outpost

Guyana-born French citizen Benn Kenneth Anthony says that he was humiliated and horrified when a local police rank performed a body cavity search on him.

Benn Kenneth Anthony

Anthony claims that he was ordered by a plainclothes policeman to remove his underwear and perform squats during an immigration search at Moleson Creek.
According to him, this happened on November 20, while he was making his way to board the ferry to Suriname en route to French Guiana, where he has been living for two decades.
The 22-year-old man said he reported the matter to the Moleson Creek Police Station.
Anthony recalled that he was taken into an area where he was ordered by the rank to empty his suitcase.
“He didn’t even identify himself to me. But I could recognize him if I see him again. He just lifted up the suitcase and turned it over. When he finished searching the suitcase he asked me if I was ever charged for any offence.”
The man said he replied in the negative and told the rank he came to Guyana to visit his grandmother.
He said the rank patted him down and insisted that he remove his pants and underwear. “He asked me to pull down my pants and I removed it up to my knees. Then he told me to take off my brief (underwear).” He related that he complied with the instructions and was then told to squat twice before given permission to repack his suitcase and leave.
“He found nothing illegal on me,” Anthony stressed.
He said he is still trying to come to grips with what happened.
“I have travelled all over the world and this has never happened to me. Is this something normal for immigration in Guyana? I felt very uncomfortable with him (the rank) in that room.”
“I’m not looking for a problem with police in Guyana. I just want them to stop doing this.”
Anthony added that he is sure other passengers have been subjected to this kind of search and is calling on them to speak out.
“I’m trying to highlight this. I want that rank to be disciplined.”
Anthony stated that when he visited the Police Outpost to report the matter, another rank told him that he could not deal with the matter because the rank who strip-searched him is his superior.
Nevertheless, he stated that a police constable took a statement from him after being instructed by another senior rank, and promised to give him an update on investigations, when he returned to Guyana.
“I come back on December 7 and I see them (the rank that searched him and the constable that took the statement). They both walked past me.”
A copy of the one-page statement dated November 20, 2016 – with the police rank’s regulation number – was seen by Kaieteur News.
“He (the constable) ain’t even sign the statement. He just put he regulation number. I don’t even think that is he regulation number. I don’t even think this statement valid.”
Anthony plans on reporting the incident to the Police Complaints Authority today. He says if a probe is not launched into the matter he will consider taking legal action against the State.
Anthony, who is still in Guyana, has already sought advice from a local attorney. He has also sent a letter detailing what transpired, along with a copy of the statement, to the Ministry of Justice in French Guiana.

The incident reportedly occurred around 16:30h on Monday while the family was out.

According to the businessman’s wife, Wendy Ramdeo, she secured her home on Monday afternoon before leaving with her family to go to the supermarket to do some shopping. She related that upon their return at around 18:30h, they noticed that their house lights were on.

The woman said she immediately knew that something was amiss and they quickly alerted the neighbourhood. Residents then flocked around the premises; however, by the time they entered the home, the thieves had already left.

The thieves reportedly gained entry into the Ramdeo home by using a ladder to break a part of the ceiling and using their feet to stamp the said ceiling down. When Guyana Times visited the scene, footprints were still visible. The home was ransacked, but the family could not say for sure what was taken. The wife related that no cash was missing. She said the thieves also carted off groceries and the meal she had cooked earlier.

After the discovery, a report was made to the Suddie Police Station and according to relatives, the Police took three hours to respond. Detectives visited the scene and uplifted fingerprints. Up to press time, five persons were in Police custody.

According to the distraught family, it was the second robbery for the year; during the first incident, bandits stole poultry and other equipment; however, the family never made a report. Although nothing was taken from their furniture store, a cutlass was reportedly lost.

Meanwhile, several other residents from the area are fearful for their lives, as there have been several break-ins. One resident from the area was reportedly robbed on Monday night. Residents are, therefore, calling for Police to be more visible in the area and increased Police patrols, especially during the Christmas season.

Crime spirals out of control

As crime continues to spiral out of control, the Guyana Police Force is holding out that serious crimes were down by 16 per cent as at the end of November 2016 when compared to the same period last year.

The Police, in a release, stated that there was a ‘break even’ in reports of murder with a ‘clear up’ rate of 64 per cent. In addition, the Police recorded a six per cent decrease in robbery under arms where firearms were used, with a 15 per cent ‘clear up’ rate.

Also, there was a 17 per cent reduction in armed robberies where other instruments were used by the perpetrators and more so, a 25 per cent decrease was registered with respect to robberies where violence was used.

There was also a nine per cent decrease in robbery with aggravation and a 14 per cent decrease in robberies where no instruments were used, while a 32 per cent decrease in larceny from the person was recorded.

Additionally, there was a 21 per cent decrease in rape; a 20 per cent decrease in break and enter and larceny, with a 20 per cent ‘clear up’ rate and finally, the Police recorded a 12 per cent reduction in burglary.

With respect to the seizure of firearms, the Police were able to clean the streets of 96 unlicensed weapons, including 42 pistols, 28 revolvers, 24 shotguns, and two rifles.

The Police stated that the continuous monthly reduction in serious crimes was nothing but a testimony to the excellent collaboration among the many stakeholders and the public at large, coupled with the strategies employed by the Force. Nevertheless, the public believes that with crime being perpetuated on a daily basis, the crime situation in Guyana is unbearable.

Only Monday morning, a Corentyne cambio dealer was robbed of millions as gunmen armed with AK-47s invaded his property. The Police arrived at the scene more than one and a half hours after the 30-minute ordeal. Several other armed robberies were recorded where the victims were severely beaten by the perpetrators.

With respect to traffic, the Police recorded an 11 per cent increase in fatal accidents. There were 115 fatalities recorded at the end of November, compared to 112 for the same period last year.

However, there were decreases in serious and minor accidents, but an increase in damage accidents.

Meanwhile, the Police have instituted charges against 65,357 errant drivers for several traffic offences, with 55 per cent of the total ordered to pay fines.

Of the total charges, 24,276 were for speeding; 3416 were for breach of condition of road service licence/music; 2721 for driving under the influence of alcohol; 1272 for using a cell phone while driving; 1236 for breaching traffic light signals and 1211 for tinted motor vehicles.

Gunmen captured after trailing, robbing Tower Hotel’s accountant

  • Security guard shot, $2.5M recovered

The two bandits who were captured

Quick action by the police led to the arrest of two armed bandits, yesterday, minutes after they snatched $2.5M from a Tower Hotel accountant after trailing him from a city bank.
A security guard, 63-year-old Balmick Persaud, was shot when he tried to wrestle with one of the men, the pillion rider, who had jumped off a CG motorcycle and confronted the accountant in the hotel’s Main Street, Georgetown compound.
The guard was rushed to a private hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition. The bullet grazed his abdomen. According to information, police who were in the area as part of the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s Christmas policing, heard the gunshots and immediately gave chase after seeing the two men on the CG motorcycle acting in a suspicious manner.
The chase led to East Ruimveldt Front Road, where the two men were arrested after running into a house to seek shelter. The police in a press release said that the men had crashed into a trench during their escape bid. In their haste to avoid capture the men left the bag containing the cash in the trench. They also tossed the weapon.
The stolen cash was recovered and up to press time, the cops were searching a nearby trench for the firearm that the bandits had in their possession. According to information received, as the police ranks were pursuing the men, they were shooting at the cops.
At the scene yesterday, one woman said that she was sitting in front of her door when she heard about seven gunshots, followed by a man pointing a gun in her yard.
“I see the man by my gate with a gun peeping in and then he went by the neighbour and arrested the two boys,” the woman said.
She explained that the police also arrested the couple who resided at the property. That property was believed to be a haven for thieves since the gunmen found property from other crime scenes. There were lamps from vehicles also believed to have been stolen.
One of these arrested had been arrested in the past after having been shot during a robbery. On that occasion he was shot in the neck. That near death experience did nothing to have the young man rethink his ways, one woman said.
Investigations are ongoing.

Masimba Sampson is in a critical condition at the GPHC

A WISROC, Linden fireman is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was brutally chopped about his body by bandits on Wednesday night.
Masimba Sampson, 30, is now being hailed as a brave man, since he put up a fight against the four bandits who were also armed with a gun. Reports indicate that the perpetrators called Sampson out of his house. Despite being outnumbered, he managed to get the gun from one of the bandits, but was unaware that they were also armed with cutlasses and before he knew it, he was chopped several times about his body, including his face and head.
The bandits then escaped and Masimba made his way to the Wisroc Police Outpost, where he was subsequently rushed to the Linden Hospital but was later transferred to the GPHC. supermarket and his wife.
Mr. and Mrs. Xie were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
Friday night’s robbery was the second attack on the Chinese’s supermarket since it opened at Lot 12 Independence Street, La Grange last September.
While the bandits escaped with the supermarket’s DVR (digital video recorder), their movements were captured on a nearby camera.
They arrived at the premises in silver grey Fielder wagon bearing registration number, HC 1483.
Dhaniram Persaud said that the Chinese couple is renting his son, Danosh Persaud’s apartment downstairs of the property.
The man said that he was sitting on his verandah when he noticed a young man entering the supermarket.
Shortly after, he heard the shutters being pulled down.
Persaud said that after 15 minutes, the men came out the supermarket with a suitcase and a box. “I ask them if that’s the work they doing and one of them ask me if I good and I picked up a big spindle to fling at them but it couldn’t reach so far.”

Teen mother gets throat slit by estranged lover

A 19-year-old mother, Michelle Baker, of Lot 90, Mitchell Street, “B” Field South Sophia, is recovering from a wound allegedly inflicted by her former lover.

Jason Henry and Michelle Baker with their son Jaydon.

According to Baker, the incident occurred on Tuesday last. She said that she was assaulted by the father of her one-year-old son, Jaydon. Baker identified her former lover as Jason Henry also of “B” Field Sophia.
The woman told Kaieteur that on Tuesday morning, at approximately 7:00 am, Henry reportedly came to her residence for pampers and milk for Jaydon, since it is normal that the baby would spend weekends with his father.
However, when Baker brought out the milk and pampers for Henry, he accused her of not hugging and kissing their son. She reportedly told him it was not possible with the baby bag in her hand. After Henry collected the baby’s bag, he allegedly grabbed Baker by her arm and said, “You got time for other men but ain’t got time for your son”.
Baker said that she screamed for Henry to let go of her arm. The angry man then told her, “You get brave” and threatened to kill her.
After Henry and the child left, Baker said that she called her mother, Paula Thomas, in hysteria about what had transpired between her and Henry. Thomas reportedly advised her to go to Turkeyen Police Station and make a report. At the station, Baker was advised to proceed to Vigilance Police Station to get a restraining order against Henry.
At Vigilance Police Station, Baker was reportedly told that she cannot have a restraining order against Henry since they are not living together and unless he is continuously threatening her, only then she will be able to obtain such.
While returning home from Vigilance Police Station, Baker was allegedly attacked by Henry, who at the time had a knife which he reportedly used to cut her throat. The duo was reported to have been in a scuffle before Baker’s mother realized that it was her daughter’s screams that she was hearing outside.
After a lad from the area attempted to part the two, Henry reportedly threw away the knife and ran away. He has not been seen or heard from since.
However, it was not until Baker and her mother carried her bloodied clothes to Vigilance Police Station did they receive a restraining order. The restraining order states that Henry must not be within 500ft of Baker and to have no contact with her.
Baker was treated for her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Sasha said when one of her friends reached home, she and the others went to help her inside, and in doing so, she thoughtlessly left behind her handbag with all her belongings in the waiting taxi.

“After two hours of trying to catch up to him, I finally caught him at Stabroek Market parked in the taxi area.

“I approached him and asked if he had just picked up me and my friends, to which he admitted. I then asked for my belongings, and he pretended not to know what I was talking about, but eventually reached over into the passenger side floor and picked up my phone.”

When she asked for the rest of her things, he tried bluffing his way out.
“When I asked for my bag,” Sasha said, “he claimed he didn’t know I’d left it, and that a passenger he’d just dropped off might have gone with it.

“I called him out on his bull!@#$ and kept asking for my bag, but he kept denying having seen it. I asked why he left with my things after we asked him to wait, to which he lied saying one of my friends paid him and told him to leave.

“This was untrue, since I was the last person to leave the car and no one ever turned back,” she explained.

The young lady said she is disappointed in the action taken by the police, who could have arrested him on the spot, however, the ranks asked him to drive to the police station, but the taximan fled.

“The police that accompanied me told him to go to the station, and that he was getting locked up,” she said. “They attempted to drive behind him, but, of course, he got away. I also think the police should’ve searched his car and arrested him there and then, since it was obvious he stole my belongings.

“He had already begun to charge my phone! But they didn’t even ride with him to the station; they foolishly gave him the opportunity to get away,” the young lady noted.

Two bandits who were cornered and gunned down by the police during a shootout after they had

Dead bandit: Jamal Letlow

robbed persons at a family function at Seaforth Street, Campbellville on Sunday, have been identified as Jamal Letlow and Shaquille Fraser.
Both men are 22 years old and are said to be known characters to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Letlow, a father of three and a fish cleaner, resided at John Fernandes Squatting Area while his accomplice, Shaquille Fraser, a mason, resided at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara and Lot 153 Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
Yesterday, Letlow’s brother, Patrick Peters, said that they were informed that his brother had been killed when someone called and informed them that there was a shootout in Campbellville.
He said that he as well as other relatives went to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where they identified the father of three.
According to Peters, his sibling was watching television with him for a few hours before he was gunned down. “He was watching TV and then he left to go out and he didn’t come home back. Then we get the call that he was dead.”
Peters maintained that his brother was not a criminal but in fact a hard worker, who cleaned fish at the Meadow Bank wharf to support his three children.
“I don’t think my brother ever had a gun because I never see a gun yet in my life and I hear people saying that my brother surrendered and the police still kill he. I don’t know what is going on here because (President David) Granger said not to shoot anyone,” Peters said.
He added that the death of his brother is a tragedy and his family is devastated, especially his eldest brother who is currently serving a jail sentence in prison.
While Peters said that he could not recall why his brother was charged, this newspaper was able to confirm that 30-year-old Quincy Letlow was remanded to prison on several occasions for robbery under arms.
Jamal Letlow, on the other hand, was shot in 2014 when he grabbed a gold chain from a 14-year-old passenger while disembarking a mini bus.
An alarm was raised and a city constabulary, who was in the area at the time, responded and shot Letlow to the buttocks.
In 2015, the father of three was charged for stealing a motorcycle from Shawn Edu and in 2012, Letlow was among three persons who robbed Ramsarran of $8,000.
While Kaieteur News was unable to get information on Shaquille Fraser, there are reports that the 22-year-old man was involved in at least two robberies.
Kaieteur News understands that the men were killed minutes after carrying out a robbery at the Seaforth Street residence.
A man, who was at the function said that the bandits both armed with guns, came at the gate and requested to speak with “Kevin.”
The man, who declined to divulge his name, said that he told the men that no “Kevin” was there. It was then the bandits whipped out their firearms and demanded that the occupants remain still.
One of the bandits searched almost everyone present at the event and took away cash, jewellery and other valuables. The other gunman ransacked the home and made off with several cellular phones and other items.
An alarm was raised just as the bandits escaped and ranks on the patrol managed to track down the two armed men who sought refuge in the churchyard behind Campbellville Secondary School.
The armed men allegedly shot at the police, but were riddled during the ensuing shoot-out.
One .38 revolver and one spent shell were recovered along with five live matching rounds

waiting identification.

REMANDED: Clive Vanlewin

Number 79 Village, Corentyne Berbice Cambio Dealer, Devendra Churaman has been charged with robbery under-arms.
Vanlewin is 18 years old and resides at Sand Hills, Berbice River.
He was remanded to prison until December 29, after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on December 12, at Number 79 Village, Corentyne Berbice, Vanlewin while in the company of others and armed with a gun robbed Churaman of $22,500,000.
An unrepresented Vanlewin was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was instructed to make his next court appearance at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
Commander of Police ‘B’ Division, Senior Superintendent Errol Watts, had confirmed that one of the suspects was positively identified by Churaman during an identification held at the Albion Police Station last week Wednesday. The commander revealed that Churaman related to police that during the confrontation in his bedroom, the mask of one of the bandits fell off enabling him to see the face of the perpetrator.
According to reports, the bandits who were armed with AK-47 rifles, shotguns, cutlasses and sledge hammers launched their attack around 01:45hrs on the day in question. It was reported

Cambio Dealer: Devendra Churaman

that five of the men who were masked, smashed through the front window of Churaman’s home and hammered through a steel door to his bedroom to gain access.
Based on reports, the businessman was held at gunpoint and forced to lie face down on the floor while the bandits demanded cash and jewellery.
There were reports that while the five men carried out their rampage in the Cambio Dealer’s home, ten others stood guard in the streets firing shots and lighting firecrackers to keep neighbours distracted and at bay. The bandits reportedly escaped with the multi-million- dollar haul in local currency and $1M in jewellery.
When asked if he has any objections to the accused being granted bail, Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones replied in the affirmative.
According to Jones, Vanlewin was positively identified by the virtual complainant as one of the men who invaded his home. The prosecutor noted that firearms were used during the commissioning of the robbery. He also cited the nature and gravity of the charge.
Prosecutor Jones indicated that several others will be charged in relation to the robbery.

The court was told that the defendant confronted the virtual complainant (VC) at Irving and Laluni Streets, Queenstown and stabbed him several times before relieving him of the cash and cell phones. Smith raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens ran to his rescue and apprehended Jeffery and handed him over to police.
According to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the defendant was positively identified by the VC on an identification parade. Cops busted with ganja in car

TWO Traffic constables attached to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam were on Monday afternoon observed acting suspiciously around a hire car owned by one of them after their tour of duty had ended. They ended up being busted with a quantity of marijuana.

‘B’ Division Commander Errol Watts has since confirmed that the ranks have been placed under close arrest and the matter is currently being handled by Criminal Investigation Department ranks in Georgetown.

Guyana Chronicle understands that the behaviour of the cops caught the attention of a senior officer, and he questioned their presence in the vicinity at that time. Not being pleased with the ranks’ response, the officer requested the keys to the heavily-tinted vehicle; and when the constables refused to grant that request, the officer decided to break the driver’s side window to gain entry into the car.

The senior officer reportedly searched the inside of the car but found nothing. However, upon opening the trunk, he found a rice bag in which a shoulder bag was concealed. On opening the shoulder bag, the officer discovered two transparent plastic bags which contained leaves, stems and seeds believed to be from the cannabis sativa (marijuana) plant.

The two constables were promptly placed under close arrest, and the items, which in their presence were found to weigh 5kg, were seized. The two ranks were told of the offence and statements were taken from them.

The policemen have since denied knowledge and/or ownership of the bag and its contents. Investigations are continuing.

Guyanese family pleads for release of man kidnapped by Venezuela drug cartel

-local cops contact Venez. counterparts

“Uncle, please send de money in two days, because these people gun kill me…”
Hog-tied, his face swollen, blood dripping from his mouth onto a bed-sheet, 29-year-old Guyanese

A hog-tied Paul De Weever

Paul De Weever made the plea in a graphic video that was sent to his family a few days ago.
The video was reportedly made by members of a drug cartel, who appear to be accusing the welder and father of three of stealing from them. The men are said to be demanding 28 million Bolivars for De Weever’s release.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said yesterday that the Guyana Police Force has notified their Venezuelan counterparts, via INTERPOL, about the alleged abduction.
“We have notified them that we are willing to provide any information.”
However, he said that no member of the De Weever’s family has contacted the police. “No relative has contacted us asking for assistance.”
Blanhum also revealed that de Weever had come to the attention of the police on two occasions.
A relative told Kaieteur News that they last saw
De Weever in October. They said that the man, who has twin sons, aged three, and a five-year-old daughter, did not tell them where he was going.

Paul De Weever

Then last month, they learnt that he was in Venezuela, “and then things got haywire.”
They received a message, via WhatsApp, from de Weever who said that he had been abducted by Venezuela drug dealers, who were demanding 28M Bolivars from his family.
“He send a message saying ‘I ain’t deh good, these people beating me, and send 28M or these people gun kill me.”
A photograph, posted on Facebook also shows the Guyanese sitting on a bed near piles of cash.
Following that, is a video which shows him lying hog-tied on a bed, while a man who speaks with a foreign accent punches and whips him.
The man also presses a foot at the back of De Weever’s neck, while throttling him with a length of cord. De Weever’s face is swollen and he is bleeding from the mouth, as he asks an unnamed uncle to “send de money.”
The relative said that someone sent the video to de Weever’s father on December 17, which happens to be the father’s birthday. The kidnapped man’s birthday is on December 21. The video was made on November 11, last.
But the relative insists that the family knows nothing about De Weever’s dealings and have no clue about the money he allegedly took.
“We don’t know anything about drugs…We are a poor family. We are asking them to give him a chance to tell them where the money is. “

Armed bandits on Sunday morning pounced on an East Coast Demerara (ECD) couple who had just returned home after closing their business in the City Mall at Georgetown.

The incident took place after 01:00h as the couple drove into their First Phase, Good Hope, ECD yard.

Guyana Times understands that after arriving home, the couple opened their remote-controlled gate and drove into the yard. They were about to enter the garage to park the car, while the gate was closing when a silver-grey 212 Toyota motor car pulled up into the driveway and three men, two of whom were armed, exited.

The men rushed into the yard and ordered the husband and wife duo to hand over their valuables. At the time, they were carrying the day’s sales from their business. During the struggle, the bandits gun-butted the wife to her head before taking possession of the couple’s belongings, including an undisclosed sum of cash, three cellphones and a handbag containing documents, keys and other valuables.

The three bandits then rushed to the car, where a fourth person was waiting in the driver seat, and they drove away, making good their escape. As the men were making good their escape, the wife raised an alarm, alerting neighbours.

One of the neighbours related to this newspaper that he was in his yard a few houses away from the victims when he heard the woman shouting “Thief! Thief!”. The incident took place on Christmas Eve at Number 70 Village, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).

Bhartie Udho (Daughter) in the hospital

The injured women have been identified as Bhartie Udho, 23 and her mother Amika Udho, 42, who are both presently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
According to reports, the two women and three other family members left their home to go to Corriverton for a Christmas Eve walk.
According to Abdul Ali, he heard screams shortly after his family left the house and as he ran out, one of his daughters was rushing home. The suspect, he said, was seen opposite his home.
“I see he going through the street with a cutlass in his hand and then I run and see my wife lie down in blood. She had a chop on her chest and one on her forehead and I go to pick her up and she say to go and check my daughter.”
According to the man, his daughter was a short distance away with multiple chops and one hand severed. “Was share blood and just the skin holding the hand and she had chap on she finger…” he related.
The suspect has been identified as Shamar Mohamed Ali, also known as ‘Crab Man”. He has since gone into hiding.
Guyana Times understands that the family had secured a restraining order from the court, preventing the suspect from coming within a certain distance of them, after attempts to kidnap the younger daughter.
The father explained that twice in 2012 the man kidnapped his daughter and on both occasions she managed to escape during the night when he was asleep. Similar incidents also occurred in 2013 and 2015.
Following the last incident, the young lady, a teacher, was able to escape and return home; Ali attempted to break into the house to get her. It was then that the family was able to secure the restraining order.
It was reported that the teenager had to give up her teaching job because of the harassment.
The father is of the view that officers at the Skeldon Police Station have done nothing to assist and have not acted on any of the reports made.
“Every time they pick him up and they tell us that we got to go to court, nothing don’t happen. When we go to court no case don’t call and the Police release him. I fed up running to the station…” Ali said in grief.
The hunt continues for the suspect.

Man accused of stealing gold band from cop remanded

A man, who is accused of stealing a gold band from Police Officer Robert Tyndall, during the busy Christmas Eve shopping at the Stabroek Market, was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared in a City Court.
Ceon Maynard of Alberttown, Georgetown, denied that on December 24, he stole a gold band valued $150,000 from Tyndall.
During his address to the court, Maynard maintained that he did not steal the band from the cop. According to the defendant, he and his girlfriend were walking in the market doing shopping when a policeman walked up to him and said he looked like the man who snatched a bag.
Maynard claimed that the officer lashed him to the face with a gun and took him to the Brickdam Police Station.
However, Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones informed the court that the stolen gold band was recovered in the defendant’s possession.
“Me ain’t thief no band. They carry me at the station and I see this officer (Tyndall) take out the band,” Maynard shouted. He was however advised by the Chief Magistrate to keep his explanation for when the matter goes to trial.
Prosecutor Jones opposed bail for the defendant citing the fact that he provided police with conflicting addresses.
Maynard will make another court appearance on January 12, for statements.

Prison warder fatally stabs estranged wife at her workplace – then turns self in

Murdered: Lonnette Nicholson-Prince (right) and in police custody: Sheldon Prince, the suspect

A Prison Warder attached to the Mazaruni Prison early yesterday morning turned himself in to authorities, in the company of his attorney, after fatally stabbing his estranged wife at her workplace.

Dead is 22-year-old Lonnette Nicholson-Prince, a mother of one, and a Cosmetologist attached to the New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital. She was allegedly stabbed fifteen times to the upper chest and other parts of her body.

The suspect has been identified as 30–year-old Sheldon Prince, of Levi Dam Angoy’s Avenue.

As the news spread like a wildfire through the town of New Amsterdam, moments after it occurred Kaieteur News spoke to the father of the now deceased woman, Michael Nicholson, who told this publication that he had dropped his daughter off at her worksite at just about 08:30 hrs yesterday, and on his way there he noticed his son-in-law standing at a bus shed a short distance away, but had thought nothing of it. He stated that he returned home shortly after but was met by the devastating news that his daughter was killed minutes after he had dropped her off.

The elder Nicholson, who is a religious leader in the community, related that he rushed back to the hospital only to find his daughter lying on the ground.

“I reach my daughter lie down on the ground, when they check her she got fifteen stab wounds to she body.”

Meanwhile, Hollyann Daniels, a staffer who was present when the stabbing took place, recounted that she was in a room with Lonnette Nicholson-Prince having a conversation when the young woman was attacked.

“I was in the room standing with her and we were talking when this guy pushed the door and came in, he look at me and said “I just wanna talk to your friend” and he went towards her”.

“He began trying to talk with her, when Lonette asked him if that is the manner in which he opens doors. He responded by saying “I just wanna talk to you” but Lonette refused and made it clear to him that there was nothing to talk about and she got up. As soon as she tried to make her way to come to me, he pull out a knife from the right side of his waist and he started to stab her… so I start scream. He turned on me, so I run out and alerted other workers that Lonette getting stab,” Daniels recounted.

By that time the enraged Prison Warder had already committed the act and had made good his escape.

The badly injured woman was rushed over to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police subsequently arrived at the scene and a search was launched. A pair of blue jeans, allegedly belonging to the assailant, was found beneath the Canje Bridge by authorities.

As persons tried to piece together the genesis of the tragic demise of the young Cosmetologist, the father of the now dead woman disclosed that approximately two months ago the young man hit his daughter in the head following a disagreement between the two. A report was made to the police and he was placed before the courts.

The father said that the matter was dismissed after the man “agreed to go his way and leave her alone”. This led to a separation of the two and the mother of one moving back into her parents’ home at Lot 11 Angoys Avenue.

It was also revealed that the suspect, two weeks prior to yesterday’s fatal stabbing, had sent a text message to the woman, threatening to kill her.

“About two weeks back he sent her a text that when she do ketch sheself he gon deh right up to her,” the father revealed, not knowing his “jealous” son-in-law would have executed his plan as promised.

Sheldon Nicholson was described as a jealous person that refused to work. He allegedly abused the young woman physically, verbally and emotionally throughout their five-year union. The couple has a four-year-old daughter.

Nicholson began working at the Mazaruni Prison as a Prison Warder approximately six weeks after training was completed.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Services in Region Six, Jevaughn Stephens, in an invited comment, expressed his sympathy to the family and friends on the loss of their loved one, while encouraging women to speak out when they are facing problems in their marriages or life in general.

He also stated that all security protocols were observed and disclosed that it was Clinic Day where persons would have traversed in and out – with the assailant being a frequent visitor to the Hospital previously when the two were seemingly on better terms.

“The individual would normally take lunch for Lonette, so he was known to the staff at the institution… so it was unexpected. But we are very saddened by what happened.”

Stephens stated that three guards were at the gate, but he emphasised the fact that the weapon used was concealed, unknown to the security. He however urged the security personnel to be more vigilant to avoid any other incidents at the institution.

Lonette Nicholson-Prince was described as a hard worker and a quiet individual that was loved by many. She leaves to mourn her parents and siblings.

The suspect who is in police custody is expected to be charged shortly.

According to reports, they then made their way into the building but not before locking the door to the living quarters of the caretaker from the outside. The bandits also cut the main power supply to the building which ultimately shuts down the security system and cameras.

When Guyana Times visited the location on Wednesday morning, detectives were taking statements from employees and the caretaker of the entity. A supervisor, Errol (only name given) told Guyana Times that when he arrived at the location at about 07:55h, he saw a trolley in front of the building and thought something was amiss since only him and another employee had keys to the building.
“It is only me and another employee have keys… and we have to open the door simultaneously… so when I saw the trolley, I know something wrong,” he iterated. However, by this time, the Police had arrived, leaving the man no other assumption other than the business was burglarised.
“We get information from the people at the Bank that they saw movements in the place but by the time they come over, the bandits had already left.” He said a number of items were removed from the office but was not at liberty to disclose such, since his employer was not available at the time this newspaper visited the scene.

He is also of the belief that the office was the intended target for the bandits. In addition, he noted that the elderly caretaker had to break the bottom of the door to get out of his dwelling quarters since the door was locked from the outside.
Balwant Bhaichandeen, a brother of the business owner told Guyana Times that he received a telephone call from a Police Officer at about 07:35h and enquired if he was related to the owner of the store and after he responded in the affirmative, he was told that the business had been robbed.
He immediately sent two employees over and arrived at the scene himself a little later. Bhaichandeen was told that a safe that was in his brother’s office was removed and the area ransacked. “I was also told that the bandits torched a hole into the metal gate to gain access to the building,” he noted. He could not say with certainty what was in the safe but was almost sure it would have contained money.
He also thinks that it is quite unusual that days after a new security system was installed, the place was burglarised. This is the first time the business was broken into since its 15 years in existence.
The Police have dusted the area for fingerprints as they continue their investigations. No arrests have been made in connection with the robbery.

Illegal aircraft

In light of a report that surfaced in a State-owned media outfit, which suggested that two senior members of the Joint Services were fingered in the landing and operation of an illegal aircraft at Yupukari, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has denied the allegation that its officers were involved in the operation of the illegal aircraft.

However, the Police Force in a press statement further stated that the report was prepared after a Board of Inquiry (BoI) recommended that a Police Officer be disciplined for use of excessive force on a civilian during the course of the inquiry and not for any act prior to the discovery of the aircraft.
On the other hand, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), in responding to the article, also refuted claims that any of its ranks were involved in any illegality involving the discovery of the aircraft. In fact, the Force stated that the misleading headlines tend to give the impression of ranks being directly involved in illegal activities.
The published report stated that a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a Second Lieutenant of the GDF were removed from their posts following the commencement of the BoI.
It was reported that the final report into the investigation concerning the plane cited the GDF officer for abandoning his post when he was asked to stake out the area where the plane was found and also he has been accused of tampering with the scene of the investigation.
With respect to the Police Officer, the news entity reported that the final report proved that he physically assaulted civilians at the scene who wanted to report the discovery of the aircraft to the authorities.
On September 13, 2016 a plane, bearing registration number N767Z, was first brought to the attention of officials by residents of the area. A Joint Army and Police team, inclusive of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), was dispatched to the location to conduct investigations launched into the sightings of the aircraft. The CoI was appointed on September 28, 2016.
The aircraft bearing registration number N767Z, was first reported to the authorities at Lethem by residents in the area. Following the discovery, a CoI was set up by President David Granger to investigate the landing and operating of the Colombian aircraft.
The report was due to be handed over on November 16 but Brigadier Collins requested an extension since he was of the belief that getting more information from residents about the plane was important.
When the report was eventually handed over, Brigadier Collins said his decision to host public meetings in several villages such as Katoka, Kaicumbay, Yupukari and other villages, along with the Regional Chairman and Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Nine, proved to be a worthwhile exercise, since it allowed him greater insight into the facts discovered during the probe.

CCTV capture bare-faced bandits breaking into goods van

– Captured on CCTV
About three men in a black Toyota Raum were seen shortly after noon, yesterday, breaking into and emptying a grocery can which was parked just off the high bridge at the La Penitence Market, Georgetown.

The arrows show the black Raum (left) and the goods van (right).

From the footage, the registration number on the front of the vehicle appears to be HC 5334 or HC 5354. The number plate on the back of the car appears to be different from the one on the front—it reads HC 3344 or HC 1344.
Based on the CCTV footage, the black Raum came out of Hogg Street, Albouystown and parked at the junction of Sussex (eastern side) and Saffon Streets. Its occupants observed salespersons removing a load of goods from the van and taking it into the market.
When the workers entered the market, the Raum turned onto Saffon Street and parked alongside the grocery van where one of its occupants first exited and went into the market through the first gate. Another accomplice also exited the vehicle and went into the market.
Shortly after, the second suspect returned to the van from the same gate while his accomplice, who first entered the market, came back to the van after exiting the market from its side gate which is on the western side of Sussex Street.
When the two suspects came back to the van, the footage showed one of them breaking the window with an object and he began emptying the stocks into the Raum with the help of the other suspect. The driver did not exit the Raum. The men then re-entered the vehicle and drove south along Saffon Street.
A police car even passed while the men were parked alongside the goods van, observing the surrounding.
The stallholder, who lost his stocks, said that his workers had just entered the market with one load and when they returned to the van they noticed it was emptied.
The suspects escaped with two bags containing milk powder, three cases of one pound butter and one case of mayonnaise.
A report was made at the Ruimveldt Police Station. Only a few weeks ago, the stallholder’s mother was robbed at gunpoint as she was getting into a taxi. No one was arrested.

By day, he was a policeman, but it appears that by night, the same rank became a professional thief.
The embarrassing state of affairs came to light at around 03.00 hrs yesterday, when a resident of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, heard strange noises in his unoccupied, upper flat. He reportedly also heard footsteps.
The man said that he alerted his son-in law, and after checking outside the property, the two ventured to the area from which the sounds had come.

“From the minute we went upstairs, a man ran under the sink,” the resident said.
The resident said that the intruder then ran to them shouting “I is a policeman, I is a policeman, I got a gun.”
He allegedly then scrambled one of the men, but they eventually subdued and tied the thief.
They then contacted ranks from the Timehri Police Station. Three ranks arrived, and it was they who confirmed that the would-be burglar was indeed a police rank, who was also stationed at Timehri.
“They were shocked,” the resident said. “I showed them where he had broken into the house.”  The detective was transported to the Timehri Police Station where he was placed in custody.
A Division Commander Clifton Hicken confirmed that the detective was in custody after being nabbed in a house.
The Commander said police will be seeking legal advice today in an effort to have the rank placed before the courts.

Residents at Mahaica and Mahaicony may now be able to sleep soundly, after capturing a taxi driver and two men who had broken into and stolen articles from at least 17 vehicles during a three-day spree.
The culprits were nabbed on Friday while attempting to break into yet another vehicle at Mahaicony. A source said that they were “tied up like monkeys” and given a sound thrashing before being handed over to the police.
Police recovered several tape decks, a tractor alternator, eight batteries and other valuables. Vehicle owners have turned up to claim some of the items.
Sources gave the ages of the suspects as 37, 27 and 24. The taxi driver resides in Georgetown, while his accomplices are reportedly from Sophia.
Police believe that the trio’s spree began last Wednesday, when police began receiving reports from Mahaicony and Mahaica, of spares and items being stolen from mini-buses, cars and even a tractor.
It is believed that the gang used the recent heavy rainfall to their advantage.

A police vehicle arrives on the scene where the botched robbery took place

TWO of three suspected bandits were on Tuesday afternoon apprehended by police following the execution of a daring robbery at a popular fruit and vegetable stand on North Road, Boarda.

A seemingly composed Chaterpaul Bharrat details the series of events which led to the apprehension of the two suspected bandits

According to the proprietor Chaterpaul Bharrat, at about 17:30hrs, he received a call that his business, ‘Bharrat’s fresh vegetables’ was being robbed. He was at the Harbour Bridge at the time.

He said that once he arrived at the fruit stand, which is located on North Road, he learnt that two men approached the stand and told a female worker to take off her valuables. One of the men reportedly had a gun in his possession. Bharrat said that they then approached his wife, Daveeka Seenarine and attempted to “bust off” her apron which had money, but a Brazilian customer who was there questioned “why would y’all want to do that?”

He revealed that the two men then turned their attention to the customer and relieved him (the customer) of two gold rings and $100,000 in cash. Hurriedly, they then left on foot, heading east of North Street, where another suspected accomplice was waiting with motorcycle CG 8631.

The proprietor said though, that the customer, who is a license firearm holder chased the men, but stumble and fell, which allowed for two of them to escape.
“He [the customer] get up and run one who run around to Regent Street and back and was eventually caught” Bharrat said, adding that by this time, he had arrived at the business.

A few seconds later, he said Police were able to apprehend a second suspect on Robb Street and the two were taken to Alberttown Police Station.

“The Police did a very good job because in no time they catch the second person. And they weren’t patrolling, somebody call them. So they reacted fast” a seemingly composed Bharrat said.
He said that when the two men were taken to the Police Station, the apron his wife was wearing was recovered but not the articles stolen from the customers.

A miner of Moruca Village, North West District (NWD), was in the wee hours of Sunday stabbed to death, during a confrontation with another man in the village.

Dead is Robert “Bobby” Ferreira, 30. Based on information received, Ferreira and two friends, who had travelled to the village, were at a get-together when an

argument broke out among the group of men.

The argument quickly escalated, and one of the men broke a bottle and stabbed Ferreira to his leg. The injured man was subsequently picked up and rushed to the hospital, but it was too late.

Speaking with Guyana Times, the dead man’s father, Virgil Ferreira explained that he received a call from his eldest son at about 03:50h informing him that Bobby had been stabbed.

He explained that his son worked in the interior and returned home to spend the holidays. He was accompanied by two friends.

“It was him and these two friends were at a hang when the confrontation occurred… I don’t know if it was a broken bottle or a knife that was used to stab my son… all the information I received was that he was stabbed,” the father related.

He further explained that after his son was stabbed to the leg, his friends ran after the suspect to apprehend him.

“His friends thought that a stab on the foot was not that serious and ran after the suspect, but apparently, due to the stab wound, the main artery was severed causing a blood blot which had directly affected the heart,” he explained.

After the two men returned with the suspect, they placed the injured man into a vehicle and took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, within a few minutes of his arrival at the medical facility, he succumbed.

The grieving father confirmed that the suspect hailed from the village and was in Police custody assisting with the investigations. Meanwhile, the father is calling on the relevant authorities to ensure that the post-mortem examination is done in a timely manner so that his son can be laid to rest.

The reason for this request, he explained, is that bodies are often kept for long durations at the mortuary with no pathologist to perform the post-mortem. Eventually, the bodies are buried without family members knowing the cause of death of their loved ones.

Ferreira leaves to mourn his parents, and 11 siblings. The Police are continuing their investigations into the murder.

He had on ma pregnant dress, he ask me where the money deh and I tell he I don’t have any money”.
The woman stated that she normally sleeps with her fan on so this would’ve prevented her from hearing any sounds. Narine further told this publication that the man ran downstairs and escaped on her bicycle she had parked in the yard.
Upon venturing downstairs she discovered her bottom flat ransacked, her hand bag on the ground, jewelry missing and carbonated and non-carbonated drinks also missing from her refrigerator. According to her, upon checking her purse she noticed $20,000 missing from her bag, three gold chains and a gold ring. The perpetrator also escaped with her maternity dress and her bicycle.

A blanket was found at the window, an indication that it was being used to open the window. The woman stated that she is still scared for her life after such an experience.
At 11:30 PM that said night the home of Kirpaul Damar, a businessman was also the victim of break and enter. Damar told Kaieteur News that his wife got up to tend to his grandson when she noticed a bicycle parked at their gate. “My wife woke me and told me someone parked their bicycle at our gate.

The businessman stated that after some time while on the lookout he heard the dogs barking and then he noticed someone dressed in dark clothing jumping his gate.” I saw someone jump my gate and walking at the side of the truck so I fired a shot in the air to scare him, I fired two more in the sky but he jumped on the bicycle and rode away”.
He stated that he contacted his son and went out as well to see if they would’ve possibly caught up with the intruder but they were unsuccessful.
Damar related that upon returning home he noticed his downstairs kitchen was ransacked, “I saw my place ransacked downstairs in the kitchen. When I check like the man mix tea and eat biscuits. It had apple and grapes in the fridge; he eat some too and the man gone with my two bottles of pepper sauce I had in the cupboard.”
He stated that he had approximately $4000 in his bus that was parked downstairs and was left unlocked.

The eyewitness said that the woman struggled fiercely with the bandit, with one of the four-wheel All-Terrain Vehicles located in front of the store, leaning on her. The bystander said the men were very calm and they did not conceal their faces.
After snatching the victim’s bag, the bandit walk briskly back to the getaway car and it sped away south along Oronoque and turned east onto South Road and disappeared.
A security guard attached to Jialing Motors said that when he saw the men and realized they were armed, he initially retreated from the doorway where he stood, because he was unarmed.
“I wasn’t armed, so when I see the gun I quickly went inside and tell me boss.”
The guard recounted that shortly after the taxi driver stumbled into the store clutching his leg, with blood pouring down, and he was quickly rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, who was quickly on the scene, told the media that a .32 calibre warhead and spent shell were recovered inside the establishment. He also said that the police will be looking at CCTV footage from the cameras around.
The police later arrested an Albouystown man in connection with the robbery. From all indications the woman had been staked out and trailed from the bank. This is a worrying trend and adds to the list of robberies where victims were apparently followed from banks. It was on December 15, 2016, that a Security guard was shot and $2.5M stolen after the man was trailed from the bank. Another man was shot and robbed of $3M in the Finance Ministry compound after he too was followed from a bank.

La Reconnaisance NDC, while he was conducting his routine checks.

“What happen is the car left, so while I was doing my routine checks and so forth, everything seemed to be okay and I came back to my location and about 10 minutes after, I heard the dog barking. I see the dog look at the southern direction, and I just came out back to make a second check and I confront two of the bandits,” Beemsingh recalled.

He told this publication that one man held a gun in his hand, and instructed him not to scream. The second bandit was reportedly armed with a crowbar, while the third emerged from behind a tractor. The second and third bandits, according to Beemsingh, had kerchiefs over their faces, while the one with the gun was unmasked.

The security guard related that his attackers were of East Indian descent, and he provided a description to Guyana Times.

“[The one with the gun] lil fair and he weighs about 135lbs and he was about 5’4″, and the next two of them – they was 5’7″, 5’8″ and thin,” he said.

Beemsingh further related that the perpetrators tied his legs and hands, and then enquired as to how many other guards were on duty. He stated that the men then informed him that they came for “some money inside the office”.

“’Don’t scream’, they cuss up and thing and so, they bond my hands at the back and tie my feet and said don’t scream, don’t say a word, put your face down at the bottom,” the security guard related, noting that the bandit with the gun stayed with him, while the other two scanned the premises and brought two other security guards to be tied up as well.

The man recalled that shortly after, he heard the men breaking into the NDC. However, they reportedly came back to the three security guards empty handed and they were overheard saying “the girl wired them and tell them that they have $16 million and they ain’t get nothing from there. No money at all.”

In what appeared to be an effort to leave with something of value, the three bandits took the brush cutter which was on the premises, and proceeded to rob the security guards of $1500 in cash, two cellular phones, and a bag of medication. They then fled in the same vehicle they arrived in. The Police were contacted and they responded promptly. Investigations are ongoing
