what i s a VALIMA dinner..??? dunno
listen ..u need to explain yr pakistani culture here..we nah psychic u know!!! clever
u need to teach us a lilbit about things that go on overthere...ahrite!! Roll Eyes

Valima is a huge reception given by the bridegroom, usually on the third day after the wedding.

Its become the norm for such receptions to kick off around 10pm with dinner being served after midnight - at 12.30 in the reception tonight. In between they have to photograph close families with the newlyweds and save them on video too. You give the gifts oer money, you dine, bid goodbye and resolve next time to stay away.

The traditional fare is biryani, qorma, nan, some barbquea perhaps, a sweet dish and qulfi or ice cream and green tea.

We normally eat at home before the reception and pretend to eat at the reception but today we were told to expect early dinner so we learnt a lesson lol.

Its late - almost 2am and its a working day tomorrow. so good night Smile

lynn, your article above reminded me of this song:

Ek Din Bik Jayega - Dharam Karam

Ek Din Bik Jayega, Maati Ke Mol
Jag Mein Reh Jayenge Pyare Tere Bol
Dooje Ke Hothon Ko Dekar Apne Geet
Koi Nishani Chhod, Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Anhoni Path Mein Kaante Lakh Bichaaye
Honi To Phir Bhi Bichhda Yaar Milaye
Yeh Birha, Yeh Doori
Do Pal Ki Majboori
Phir Koi Dilwala Kahe Ko Ghabraye
Taram Pam...
Dhara Jo Behti Hai Milke Rehti Hai
Behti Chara Ban Ja Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Parde Ke Peechhe Baithi Saanval Gori
Thaam Ke Tere Mere Man Ki Dori
Yeh Dori Na Chhoote, Yeh Bandhan Na Toote
Bhor Hone Wali Hai Ab Raina Hai Thodi
Taram Pam...
Sar Ko Jhukaye Tu Baitha Kya Hai Yaar
Gori Se Naina Jod Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

My father Mukesh by Nitin Mukesh

Accordingly, my father got his first break on his own. The year was 1951. Music director Anil Biswas offered him the chance to sing one song for the film Pehli Nazar. Dil jalta hai to jalne de was an overnight success. And the spotlight focused sharply on the 18-year-old debutant singer.

Though this song made him famous, my father continued to face many ups and downs in his career. Then, he met Raj Kapoor. The meeting happened quite by accident at Ranjit Studios. But I have always believed that a meeting between these two great people was ordained by the heavens.

Raj Uncle was a great admirer of my father's voice and wanted to sign him on as playback singer for his film. My father readily agreed. The first song my father sang for Raj Uncle was Zinda hoon main for the film, Aag.

Nitin Mukesh on his father...Mukesh:

It was not that my father got to sing more songs than his contemporaries. But, somehow, the song to which he lent his voice would turn out to be the most popular song in the film. Kati Patang, for example, has many good songs sung by good singers. But the most memorable song in the film is Mukesh's Jis gali mein tera ghar na ho balma.

Amongst his contemporaries, my father's favourite singer was Mohammed Rafi. He loved Rafisaab's voice, and believed that nobody could replace him.

.

My father belonged to an era that boasted of many talented singers. It was a time when you could not say one singer was better than the other. Just as each singer had his strengths, so also each singer had his weaknesses. My father was a very gifted singer, I believe this talent was God's gift to him. Besides, he was also blessed with good luck.

LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

Probably his greatest ability was to sing his heart out and touch the heart of the listener through that. He had a voice that had inherent melancholy in that. So when he sang "Aansoo bharie hai yeh jeevan ki raahe", one could feel his heart bit
He reminded us of separation from a beloved in "Saranga teri yaad mein " and he told us of relationships in "Chalri sajni ab kaa soche ".... He taught us the meaning of life in "Ek pyaar ka naghma hai "

That is our Mukesh... a man, who is living in our hearts even 3 decades after his death

ik din bik jaayegaa, maati ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
duuje ke honthon pe, lekar apne geet
koi nishaani chhod, phir duniyaa se gol..

my sentiments exactly...
except that most of Muka's songs remind me of 1974-1980...of someone who sang Muka's songs to me all the time!!!(memories can do strange things to the mindWink )

lol

for me..its memory growing up in leguan..big bro used to sing mukesh songs..
his fave daily renditions were
saranga teri aadmi
teri yaad dil se bhulane chala
and manga tha pyar..

he also did a nice rendition of rafi's dil ne chupake pyar from aan!

im also reminded of the 6 short months i lived in Austin Sy C/ville...there was a beer garden 3 houses away.. SATURDAY afternoons from around 3pm to midnite..was sheer MUKESH songs gurl..
when dem man get drunk, was pure blues!!!! Roll Eyes

Thats a really nice song. I would love to see the translation for that one.

'Chandan Sa Badan' from 'Saraswati Chandra'.

chandan saa badan, chanchal chitavan

Your body is as cast of sandalwood, you have a lively mind

dhiire se teraa yah musakaanaa

Your smile creeps across your visage so gently ...

mujhe dosh na denaa jag vaalo.n ho jaauu.N agar mai.n diivaanaa

Let the world find no fault with me, if I do fall in love with you.

yah kaam-kamaan bha.nve terii

Your brows finely pencilled, bent like a bow

palako.n ke kinaare kajaraare

Your eyes tinged with kohl

maathe pe si.nduurii suuraj

A flaming vermilion sun on your forehead

ho.nTho.n pe dahakate angaare

Simmering embers on your lips

saayaa bhii jo teraa pa.D jaaye

Even your mere passing shadow

aabaad ho dil ka viiraanaa

Causes the wildernesses in my heart to bloom again

tan bhii sundar man bhii sundar

Your mind is as beautiful as your body

tuu sundarataa kii muurat hai

You are the very incarnation of beauty

kisii aur ko shaayad kam hogii

Maybe someone else needs you as well,

mujhe terii bahut zaruurat hai

But I need you more than anyone else

pahale hii bahut mai.n tarasaa huu.N

I have already suffered a lot without you

ab aur na mujhako tarasaanaa

Pray make me suffer no more
